Excellent work digitizing and upscaling this historic classic! Your channel doesn't get enough spotlight, and that's a real shame! You deserve so much better.
This guy used to play all these games all the time and is a heavy metal guitarist and bassist I'd truly give these guys the highest remarks on a scale from 0 to 100 these guys definitely get a hundred they are they absolute was badass dudes and all Japan in the 90s no doubt they're playing is so quick so precisely on perfect Every Beat every count every note you guys are fucking fantastic!
You might be cool, but you'll never be as cool as SST Band in the 90's! What a time that was to be alive and a gamer. Epic! Thank you so much for uploading and sharing this awesome piece of history so it can be save for decades to come!
God I wish I could've been there. I legit cried when I heard the synths of Like The Wind kick in. I frickin love that song. First heard it in Project Diva Future Tone with the Kagamine Rin vocal remix and then found the original song. Was looking for either a cover or a live version when I came across this video. Absolutely perfect
It's like having T-SQUARE & CASIOPEA (possibly with YMO, Masayoshi Takanaka and the rest to mention here) tandem / tales that's so awesome, so much the intensified excitement going on. Love it❣ 👏👏👏👏👏 Also, the drummer's technique would be something like Akira Jimbo & Hiroyuki Noritake; while the bassist might have Mitsuru Sutoh's & Tetsuo Sakurai's (also Yoshihiro Naruse) funky styles. I might be mistaken, yet it's my own perspective judgment based on their own ways with such respect and absolutely "grinding well". 👍👍 Anyways, thanks for uploading this amazing masterpiece! 🙏
Yeah definitely, if you haven't yet, check out "S.S.T. Band (Sega Sound Team) - Rush A Difficulty(Arrange Ver.)" they actually had Issei Noro of Casiopia credited as a guest for that one back in 89 There was a great interview, sadly fails to load now, called (SEGA 60th anniversary interview with Hiro) where Sega composer Hiroshi Kawaguchi mentions he joined Sega hoping to work on music and found himself in programming until Yu Sazuki ask for his help in Hang-On, Hiro said that he "had been in an instrumental band as a hobby and had made copies of songs by people like Masayoshi Takanaka, Cassiopeia, and Naoya Matsuoka (the “leader” of Latin fusion music in Japan), and Yu had known that. Apparently he also knew that I had wanted to be on the sound team, so he offered that to me." Its was a nice and short interview but really shines a light on why those incredible musicians and SEGA VG music feel so alike.
actually epic cultural artifact to have up on the internet. the chances of seeing this in the US during the era it was produced was a very unlikely thing to occur. i think i may have HEARD of this release, a tiny blurb with a pic in a Gamepro or other physical gaming magazine.
Thank you so much! I have wating for years for a high quality capture of this VHS. Amazing! I hope you have the Game Music Festival 1990 as well, with extra music and the Zuntata concert as well. Thanks again!
kkkk mano não acredito, olha quem encontrei, Rafael todos esses anos, depois de mais de 1 década e nós ainda garimpando a web, se tem um brazuca fan mesmo da SST ele é vc cara
This is absolutely amazing to see all these decades later. Thank you so much and for the pristine audio!!! Long time SEGA fan thru all the ups and downs. 8)
Thanks for your hard work to bring back these treasure music/performance, I always read your channel RSS to found some new video and bring back some old memories at the same time! As other comment said before I can't wait for 「GAME MUSIC FESTIVAL '90: ZUNTATA VS. S.S.T. BAND」 uploaded at the future.
Thanks man! The Japanese online retailer BEEP has the S.S.T. BAND 30th Anniversary Box set for sale which contains 5 CDs and 1 DVD. The DVD contains this concert among others, but (spoiler) it's just a typical capture of the VHS tape... A video on Koichi Namiki's page shows Masato Saito talking about the 30th anniversary over footage of this concert, but once again, it's just the VHS footage. Perhaps no one knows where the original master tapes are.
@@ReelyInteresting nice that's really good info, and I'll definitely check that site out. I'll take VHS quality if that's all I can get. Could be a situation where sega held the master tapes and when all the financial troubles set in, who knows, couldve been auctioned off to liquidate assets, or perhaps someone simply took them, or destroyed them, hopefully not the latter. But still, I'm infinitely glad I cam at least own it in some way.
Another thing is that some pieces, like the After Burner medley in the beginning, have the videos on the monitors blurred out for some reason. Not all however, Galaxy Force isn’t edited. The release is very nice overall though as the audio CDs sound really good compared to the original SST band CD releases from years ago.
Thanks for uploading, its so important that ephemeral things like this are archived before all those old VHS tapes rot away, you are doing Gods work! Back in '90 I loved Sega but I had no idea this kind of thing was going on in Japan. I'm a big music fan too so this is just amazing!
I can not believe this live CD, VHS and LD(crossover with ZUNTATA version) I bought near 30 years ago at Hong Kong, and both its still sealed and unopen till today... time flies Game Music Festival ~199x produce tons of live song version like out LAST WAVE@S.S.T. BAND(SEGA) / Daddy Mulk@ZUNTATA(TAITO) / Street Fighter II Medley@Alph Lyla(Capcom) / 矩形波倶楽部(KONAMI) etc. . We cant get any further more like these anymore today, Whole World music taste just changed.
天才だよね。ハングオン、アウトラン、アフターバーナー1.2からスペースハリアーまでの怒涛の最強曲。この音だからゲームは売れたと思う。日本の誇り。
Late 1980s Japan was really magic
This is how cool it was to be a SEGA employee back in the day!
30年以上前のライブが観れるなんて、感謝。懐かしいです。

'The Last Wave (Out Run) ' is my favorite ❤
28:45 hands down THE BEST rendition of AfterBurner I’ve EVER heard
I truly LOVE SEGA from the bottom of my heart!!!
God, hearing everybody scream "ENCORE" after After Burner makes me so happy. Glad the After Burner enjoyers were still strong back in the 90s too.
Absolutely amazing concert! 80s and 90s best videogames decades. Thank you very much for give us the opportunity live it again

My friend has this on LaserDisk, imported from Japan in the early 90's. Love it.

That VHS sound quality is so good, like your listening to a CD
VHS-HIFI is really good and has similar audio quality to CD, with the added advantage of working in SLP so you can get upto 8hrs of audio on one tape
went here to listen to afterburner. ended up listening to the whole thing

I can see HIRO playing the keyboard.
someone directed me to your video on twitter, man this looked like a killer show! had to hear 'magical sound shower' live that was quite something.
When time machines become a thing, I'm definitely going back in time to watch this live too.
I wish someone would convert this to dvd or blu ray. Still got a vhs player, but I'd buy this in a heartbeat if it were available. Awesome job dude.
