Pedro Eustache really came out here with a big flute to show off. That made my night this year! I'm still amazed by his Xenoblade performance but honestly his Persona 5 was so good
The orchestra is my favorite part about the game awards, because, to me, even if people have their own opinions on who should win what or similar, the music and the work the orchestra puts into this really does help convey the message that the Game Awards should be a time to celebrate gaming as a whole, and from the years I've been watching, 2018-2023, they've hit a bullseye every time! On a recent note, MAN, this year's orchestra was amazing!

That Celeste to AC Odessey transition is still the best they have ever done! I love how the shot cuts to Lorne's face (the conductor) right as the transition happens. You can see him get hyped and waiting for the moment and is just like "hell yeah!" when the orchestra nails the notes.
As a classically trained musician gotta say that arrangements and the overall quality of the orchestra and sound are amazing. I mean like top philharmonic level amazing. SO GOOD. Oh, and btw gratz for Larian on BG3 winning GOTY. Well deserved!
Well it is Hans Zimmer/Lorne Balfe composing, and there are some top level musicians in the VGA orchestra since they use many of the musicians they use for their work.
I damn love the transitions in these Orchestras, my favourites are: RDR2 to MSM 11:15 - Stray to Elden Ring 23:47 to GoWR 24:17 and arguably the best one, RE4 to ToTK 27:07 to MSM2 27:35 ,it just sounds so magical
Nah, the only person who's complaining is my friend who was mad that jump up superstar had it's lyrics and not rivers in the desert- All seriousness though, that year had a stack group of games, qnd playing both of those games have been a great experience this year! both sounded great in that medley either way!
2020 is still my favorite, with 17:27 being the most legendary transition ever. You got a whole set of games with a heavy bass line and then it goes to Animal Crossing… it’s just amazing.
I audibly gasped and then had tears in my eyes, remembering how 2020 was such a goddamn hard and lonely year with Animal Crossing filling that loneliness a little. (I legit forgot it was nominated at all lol)

I felt super emotional hearing Monster Hunter in the orchestra compilation, as I had not yet found into the franchise when it was nominated. But now that I have thanks to Rise, I was like "hell yeah, there it is!!"

It's absolutely impressive how the quality ranks up from an already great 2021, to reach the 2022 and 2023 performances, where the compositions, transitions and play are close to perfect, deserving the qualification of top artistic performance. I'm so glad for all the nominees of both these years, to be immortalized in such a way is the award in itself, and it's a particularly strong symbol for the underdogs like Stray, who get to be carved into history alongside giants. I love what it builds, and Flute Guy - Perdro - surely agrees 😄
Honestly even hearing all of them like this one after another, 2022 ochestra is still the best. The way the songs perfectly blend together seamlessly is still surreal. And ofcourse the performance of the flute guy aka Pedro Eustache and that camera lag when elden ring theme comes up is unbeatable.

Each and every year we get an epic GOTY orchestra. I'd say my favorite parts were the trasition from Ratchet to It Takes Two, Death Stranding to Smash Ultimate, and RE4 to Tears of the Kingdom. Also big shout out to the guy who sang during the Control part. That was epic!! Also great to see the evolution of Flute Guy. ^_^
2012 - The Original.... 2017- The Most Complex 2018 - The Most Popular as ppl remember this is the one where we all started to take the Game Awards Orchestra seriously. 2019 - The Most Driven 2020 - The most impactful because of the pandemic 2021 - The Best Result of Bringing in Different types of the gaming spectrum 2022 - Quite possibly the most emotional and impactful as every song on here made you feel something! 2023 - Definitely the most interesting because of how the fans were still looking towards the business after the craziness of the year.
That year was THE BEST, in my opinion. Every transition was on point, from the first until the last. It was perfect, as if it was always meant to be played the way they did.

i like how each year has a diffrent feeling to it with 2022 being a sort of age of discovery and the past years being more mixed, and 2023 had some higher bigger stakes in its theme as if that adventure from last year go refined more

That year was THE BEST, in my opinion. Every transition was on point, from the first until the last. It was perfect, as if it was always meant to be played the way they did.
I was at the tapings lastnight and when baldursgate played I had the biggest chills

i like how each year has a diffrent feeling to it with 2022 being a sort of age of discovery and the past years being more mixed, and 2023 had some higher bigger stakes in its theme as if that adventure from last year go refined more
My favorite is still the transition from Hades to Animal Crossing like that shit was so good!
