"Him" is Mike Mills. His band is called Toehider. Its a one man project musically with an artist that does his album art and lots of video stuff. He is criminally under appreciated. Check out "Whaterver makes you feel superior " live one take, or "How much for that dragon tooth" also live one take. Also really like "How do ghosts work" but all his shit is next level.

Upcoming september there are again Ayreon shows where the whole 01011001 album will be played, I will be a part of that again, looking forward to see many familiar faces again there!

In the song Eye of Ra you'll see all together in the stage, musicians and singers... It's the closer for the show and it's magic.
Arjen won't appear before the end of this show - although very used to be on stage, he actually doesn't really like it. The guy playing the keys is Joost van der Broek. Joost convinced Arjen (together with Arjen's girlfriend) that they should do the show - 2 nights in a row. If you want to see them, you'll have to fly to the Netherland, where the next show will take place probably sometime next year. Arjen and Joost had planned for a show in october 2021, but then COVID-19 happened. Joost has also been co-member with Floor and Mark Jansen (Epica) in "After Forever". Joost is the guy who plays grand piano on Floor's cover of Alone (mostly know with Heart) Check it out. Joost is also unavoidable when it comes to Metal in the Netherlands - he has produced for many bands, among these the last 3 Epica album.

The lady you kept asking "who is she?" is Maggy Luyten from Belgium, who I believe used to sing with Nightmare a French power metal band. Also Irene Jansen (Floor's sister) is one of the 3 backing singers! The one on the left as you look at them. Concerts are in Tilburg (Netherlands). Take a plane to Amsterdam, The train to Breda, step over to direction Tilburg. From the station it's 10 minutes walking to Poppodium 013. 😃.

Main guy is NOT here ) Yes ) He is backstage at this moment ) And even though i have deep respect for Arjen musical and creative genius - even more I am in total awe of his organisation skills. In a million years I have no idea how is it possible to combine and keep all those different people together willing to come bye, rehearse, go on stage and perform. This thing totally blows my mind - need diplomatic 80-level master boss skills for that.

Well, Arjen's secret weapon when it comes to organise, rehearsals etc. for live shows is the keyboard player, Joost van de Broek. Joost did a major part in the whole show in all departments. Watch the making of from Ayreon Universe. Arjen said he can't do these kind of shows without wizzard Joost. Joost is besides a graduated musician also producer, arranger, songwriter, mixer, you name it.

This song is such a crowd pleaser. You can tell by how loud the crowd cheers when they realize it's this song, in the opening moments. Ayreon is pronounced Air-eon, btw :) Great reaction. For an excellent, amazing Tommy Karevik song try Into The Black Hole, from this same concert, Ayreon Universe. It's a vocal tour de force built on amazing music and a crushing killer riff. Also, as others have said, Intergalactic Space Crusaders for more Maggy Luyten. :)

She is Magali Luyten, also known as Maggy Luyten, a Belgian female rock singer. She is also a vocal coach and voice teacher. She was raised in Leuven and then moved to the South of Belgium, where she still lives today.
She played in several local bands before joining forces with the progressive metal band Over Us Eden from Aachen, Germany in 2003, produced by Uli Kusch, (ex-drummer of Helloween and Masterplan). Three years later, she was asked by Kusch, with whom she already collaborated in the past, to be the vocalist on his solo project Beautiful Sin. She recorded her vocals in Belgium and then flew to Norway to finish the work at Kusch's studio, together with guitarist Jørn Viggo Lofstad (Pagan's Mind, Jorn). Beautiful Sin debut album The Unexpected was acclaimed by heavy metal fans and specialized press worldwide. The tracks "Lost" and "Closer to My Heart" were featured on Nuclear Blast compilations Beautiful Voices II and III, AFM Records compilations All for Metal, and Gothic Melancholy Vol. XIX.

Ayreon Universe is excellent watched in order. Everyone on stage will get introduced mostly as they come on stage for the first time (Irene introduces the band and other background singers during Two Gates).

TOEHIDER aka Mike Mills aka 0-1 is an Australian genius. He makes amazing music and is a super cool person. For a short introduction song to him I reccomend WHATEVER MAKES YOU FEEL SUOERIOR. Its going to dislocate your ear. Toehider is a whole rabit hole in itself. Im so glad so see you discover this beautiful musical cosmos.

I read that Maggie never sang with that rasp until she met Arjen. He coached her to let it out, and now it's her signature sound that she is known for.

My personal heroes during this concert are back up vocalists. Main singers pop up here and there, but these three ladies do their thing during the whole concert. So, let me introduce them (from left to right): Irene Jansen (Floor’s sister, she doesn’t pursue music career, but sometimes appears in some projects; I recommend checking out Floor and Irene duet in Who I Am, sadly not a pro-shot, but with decent enough sound), Lisette van der Berg (vocalist of Scarlet Stories, pretty unknown and underrated band) and Marcela Bovio (ex-Stream of Passion, MaYaN; she’s a beast of a vocalist, a vocal couch herself and just a very versatile singer; MaYaN have several music videos worth checking out).
The "Other Guy" you were listening to is Hansi Kursch, the lead singer for Blind Guardian a very famous German power metal group. Try their song Nightfall (live at Wacken 2011). For a good Mike Mills song with his band Toehider, try "The Giants who walked with Man."
Fiddler on the Green is one of his best.

Not seeing any comments on the movie theme, so I'll do it.
- The album "The Human Equation" has been played as a musical that was technically an unofficial production at first planned by fans, but ended up containing most of the original singers and musicians. It had Arjen's blessing and keen interest since there had never been an Ayreon live concert before (some of his other projects had done concerts, but not Ayreon specifically). It was recorded for DVD with the title *The Theater Equation* and released as an official Ayreon product.
- *Electric Castle Live And Other Tales* was a musical-style production of the album "Into the Electric Castle" plus a mini-concert afterwards with songs from Arjen's other projects (hence the "Other Tales" part). Again, most of the original singers reprised their roles, including Arjen himself, and it's available on DVD.
- Arjen has hinted of plans to turn his latest album "Transitus" (released last September) into a movie, but it seems the pandemic has thrown a wrench in the scheduling. It may still happen, we just don't know when (I'm sure the international cast doesn't help). I believe there are three music videos released though, that could easily be scenes in a movie.
In the background vocals, the left one is Irene Jansen, Floor’s sister.
The middle one is Lisette van den Berg. She has her own band Scarlet Stories. You should listen to them.
The right one is Marcella Bovio. She was the singer of the band Stream of Passion. Listen to their live concert. She now sings in Mayan.
The band Haken makes great music. Also the band IQ is recommendable.
Floor her sister Irene, Lisette and Marcela as background singers... It can't get any better.
And there also is a live version where Anneke van giersbergen does the part of Hansi and Floor, Simone not but she did do the last part of "age of Shadows" at one live performance, together with mark from Epica. (And a great newer song, called "this human equation"with Diane and Marcela and at some other performances like "electric castle" she did the part of Sharon den Adel of within temptation, as far as I know)
I really like your insights and enthusiasm. It is interesting to hear you, as a performer, mention the slight contradictory feelings of looking at acts and admiring them but also feeling that they are at an unattainable level. The thing is, they were all there at some point in their careers, just starting out, unsure of whether they would make it. And one of the things that helped them to make it is looking up at those established artists that offered inspiration, even if they weren’t at that level. Admittedly, if you see Floor perform in her early 20s with After Forever, you might think, “How was she so good, even then!” But she is also better now than she was then, because of her commitment and growth as an artist. It’s part of the process to know you are not (yet) as good as those you aspire to emulate.

In Eye of Ra it starts with Floor and Irene. The keyboardist Joost was in the band After Forever with Floor and now he's helping on her solo album. Tommy is a volunteer Fireman. Hansi has a beautiful voice and he was also in The day the world breaks down. FYI Tarja played the piano and is classically trained. She took piano lessons from Tuomas's Mother.
Ayreon Universe is one of the greatest concerts I've ever heard.
If you want to hear more of Maggi Lyuten (the Rock Chick you kept askin about) you should listen to "Intergalactic Space Crusaders" by Ayreon from the same concert, she sings that song together with Damian Wilson, an amazing Tenor.
Other than that, check out "The Bard's Song" by Blind Guardian Live (preferably from the Wacken Open Air Festival) to see an amazing song, an amazing singer and the most passionate crowd you can imagine.
Hansi Kürsch (one of the vocalists in this video) is the lead singer for Blind Guardian.
Not sure if someone mentioned this on one of your previous Ayreon reactions, but for the 3 backup singers, the one on the left is Floor's sister Irene.

The problem with live Ayreon performances is that the sheer mass of talent threatens the space time continuom and unpredictable things can happen to mere mortals in the vicinity.

That tiny lady is Magali Luyten from Belgium. I didn't listen to any of her own stuff; she sings in a power metal band, I don't remember the name. But I heard her parts in Ayreon's 2008 album 01011001. Well, one can't say anything bad about anyone who takes part in Ayreon. I've also seen this whole show, it is on YT. Apart from playing the role of TH-1 the robot, Mike Mills served as a narrator. I would also like to point out the support trio: Irene Jansen, Lisette van den Berg and Marcela Bovio. Doing support vocals and headbanging during the whole show, and on top of that, Marcela took some strong front parts too. Listening to the albums, I'd not believe the vocal layers could be done live. The 3 ladies made it possible.

Great enthousiastic reaction! The guy singing with Tommy Karevic is Hansi from blind guardian. The woman with the gritty voice, you really want to know who she is, is a rock singer from Belgium. Her name is Maggy Luyten. The keyboard player is Joost van de Broek. He made music for the king and queen of the Netherlands and has been knighted. He was also the keyboard player in After Forever, Floor Jansens first band.

Recommendation: after you've done a couple of these reactions from ayreon (buy the live dvd's and watch the songs back to back) after that get the complete discography from the band and see how it has been developing in the past years.
If you want to see Tommy Kaverik at his best, I would suggest Sacrimony and Under Grey Skies from Kamelot's I Am The Empire live show. Also Phantom Divine. Screw it, the whole show is phenomenal!

The keyboard player, Joost van den Broek, was one of Floor's After Forever bandmates, and Joost currently accompanies her on many of the "covers" that she has been doing during the Covid lockdown. Arjen has been described as a "monk, mastermind, genius" and describes himself as "a social recluse". He doesn't watch tv or follow politics since "it drains your soul" and he spends much of his time watching sci-fi movies. He does participate in social media and sometimes sends messages and emails to viewers
As far as I know ayreon goes only live in the netherlands on very rare occasions. Since all these singers have their own bands it is difficult to get this live.
I hate to hear you say you could never achieve this. Floor was once you and you can be Floor. I like your work and I think you have it in you. Look at some of Floor's stuff from her earliest days. Try anything from her first band "After Forever" or her second band "ReVamp." Listen to some of her interviews talking about her journey. You will clearly see her progress as she grew and trained into the legend she is now. Keep at it!
(being a perfectionist with four years of professional schooling at the dutch rock academy combined with classical opera training does help.)
For more Mike Mills I recommend checking out Ayreon - Day Sixteen - Loser. The way he plays the character with his voice is really outstanding, as well as high belts in the end of the song.
For Maggy Lyuten the best choice probably would be Ayreon - Intergalactic Space Crusaders. You can also discover another great singer from this song - Damian Wilson.

He's so down to earth too. I once emailed him for Toehider lyrics that were nowhere to be found in the internet, and he actually took the time to search his files and send me lyrics for 2 of his songs.

PS the first time I saw this, I watched that floor entrance at LEAST 5 times. What an absolute goddess, showing up out of nowhere with that twirl
told you...and i knew it would hit you in the face!. You will see more to Floor at this concert. As i mentioned Floors sister "Irene" is in this concert aswell. You can find in the choir first to the left on this track, but she will appear in a duet with Floor laterone at the same concert.

Yes, you can possibly be as good as these singers, in your own style. Bear in mind that Floor has been singing in metal bands since she was 16, and Simone 17, so they've had many years of experience (and practice). And for them the practice never ends. I listened in on a UA-cam chat between Floor and Tarja and they talked about how important it is to always keep up the practice, especially as they're getting older. They also discussed how they are trying to keep their voices in good shape at a time when they can't go out and perform. In another interview, Floor said that she is always singing, as she goes about her daily activities and sometimes her daughter, Freya, tells her "Please Mommy, no more singing"!
No, Simone from Epica is not in this show, she is in another Ayreon show ' Into the Electric Castle and other Tales' that was recorded 2 years after this one.
Actually Arjen Lucassen, the mastermind behind Ayreon wanted to make a movie...the latest album "Transitus" should be a movie, but due to the pandemic it couldn't be realized.
The back up singers are all lead vocalists in bands as well. The one on the far right is Marcela Bovio . Lead singer of Streams of Passion and a great violinist . I highly recommend checking her material out.

Words of wisdom - NEVER underestimate anyone on Arjen's call list. Case in point: Lisette, the more prominent of the backing vocalists on this cut, is super cool...her band Scarlet Stories my be of some interest to you. Super dramatic, more than a bit dark, fable-like romantic crazy performances carving their own path in the crowded metal world. Or something like that! I dunno...

I LOVE the fact you recognised Michel Mills voice straight away from The Day The world Breaks Down.... please listen to the Ayreon album “The Theory Of Everything”, he’s one of the main singers on that album and it’s amazing, perhaps my favourite Ayreon album. There’s also a live video of the title track from that album on UA-cam that would make a GREAT reaction video
Maggy :) Well .... she's one of the best female vocalists. She's have benn singing in so many bands and she's one of my favorites since the 90's. Check out Nightmare. They have another great female singer today.

In 2019 he celebrated the 20th anniversary of Into The Electric Castle And he plays the role of hippy there. UA-cam presented it to me in a stream, it is a bit of digging to locate but you can see they started modest and eager to learn too.
