Utilizing Occupational Therapy Tools for People With Hypersomnia With Haley Walllw hw episode 9

Welcome to Living With… a UA-cam series presented by Hypersomnia Foundation. In this episode, Claire Wylds-Wright, CEO of Hypersomnia Foundation, sits down with Haley Wall, a person living with idiopathic hypersomnia.
Haley Wall is an entry-level certified occupational therapist who is always sleepy. She enjoys adventuring with her dog, reading, being surrounded by family and friends, and practicing self-care whenever she can. Haley’s medical journey began at 8 years old, and she was told for years her sleepiness was due to other health conditions up until 2017 when she received her diagnosis of idiopathic hypersomnia. As she steps into the world of advocacy, Haley has a passion for spreading awareness about IH, sharing her story, and has a vision with the hope to expand the field of OT as a supportive IH treatment to help others improve their quality of life and overall well-being.
In this episode, Haley shares her journey to diagnosis and what life has been like after diagnosis. She shares her experiences with accommodations while being in school and how she discovered occupational therapy tools that are utilized for other disorders or disabilities can be beneficial for the sleep community. In fact, it’s opened up a whole new world and vision for the work that Haley wants to spend her time doing.
Haley recently launched The Sleepy OT on Instagram and TikTok. On those social channels, she is sharing her lived experiences with idiopathic hypersomnia. She is educating others on what IH is and sharing some of the OT tools she has integrated into her daily life.
