I might've messed up but google says Pena was born in Spokane Washington. If this was my biggest mistake at least it was in the women's division where everyone was fighting for silver, so i'll take it
I love these longer videos man keep up the grind 💪 Also I think another way this could be in the Olympics and say each country makes up a team on 3-5 fighters in the same weight class and have them all train under the same team and if a fighter wins the country moves on and replaced by another fighter on their team. That could also implement more strategy on who should fight when and puts less risk on the fighters themselves.
@@Pipsqueak- Thats honestly what it used to be like dawg, the old Pride, K-1 and UFC tournament, these mfs would fight 3-5 times in a night, old headbutt and stomping days too
Here’s my idea: To do this you’d need to somehow rank a large amount of fighters across the world. Maybe designate some promotions as “Olympic Eligible” to cut down on needing to rank everyone. Then, when the Olympics role around, take each country and their fighters from each division and rank the countries. You could score it by giving points for a rank (Like Champ=20, #1 contender=16, #2=15, etc.). Then take the top 8 countries by points and put them in an 8 team tourney just like the video. When it comes down to the fights, I say anyone that is on your team can be used to compete. Take Bantam weight for example. US would have O’Malley, Cejudo, Sandhagen, Font, Cruz, and a couple more just from the UFC. Only 1 will fight, and once they do you can’t use them again. Sounds more fun and strategic to me. After that it’s just single elimination goodness, with a bronze medal fight added for good measure. And just to clarify the eligible promotions thing, it’s just to set a bar for who’s ranked so you don’t have to keep a ridiculous amount of tabs on small promotions. Off the top of my head, I’d say fighters from UFC, ONE, Bellator, and PFL should be eligible. But there’s probably more. I find having as many fighters on a team as possible is more fun. Kinda helps mitigate injuries that could derail a tournament like this, and you never know who’s gonna represent each country. Maybe it’s your favorite, maybe it’s someone you never heard of. Anyways I don’t think it’s perfect, but you could build something similar to that and I’d watch it!
You should do a ufc legends tournament. Use fighters that's aren't in the modern division like Royce gracie, tito, chuck, sonnen, Wanderlei, Anderson silva, machida, and Coleman.
The biggest problem with this is that the fight promotions would have to forbid their fighters from going. They would be opening themselves up to a ton of risk of fighter injuries with basically no reward.
Seeing what the criteria was for how you picked who was representing where I was for sure hoping either Izzy (current home) or Bobby Knuckles (born) would be repping New Zealand 😢 Great videos though, really enjoyed the watch 😌
I would love to see mma in the Olympics but i wonder with a tournament style in the relatively short span that the Olympics are held, what would happen if 2 fighters went to war and absolutely battered each other. Would the winner be expected to recover and be ready to fight someone within the next week or so? And also how would you determine who represented each weight in a huge country like the US or Brazil or Russia?
I would be interested if weight classes are teams so there is some strategy on who you pick to represent you in that round of the bracket. Seems like most likely as fighters (shouldn’t) can’t fight again that soon in an Olympic time line.
