Being something of an "average minus" player I was about to buy another guitar because I suck(ed) at playing. But my US Fender Tele IS a great guitar, so I hesitated. I came up with the idea to pay a local, killer blues guitarist to come to my home with his own guitar. He set up my nice amp and switched between mine and his own guitar - and I realised how beautiful my guitar sounds. He liked it too 🙂 So now, I just practice even more.

I have had a similar experience where a more competent player plays my gear and ends up showing me it's true potential. Thanks for sharing 🙌

Hey mate, I just found your channel! I’m a studio rats live watcher. Honestly thank you so much for this video, I genuinely am starting to believe I have ADHD, especially when it comes to buying guitar gear. All the symptoms you explained, I have. The constant thinking and my mind going 100 miles an hour.

Hey man , I have been crashing the studio rats live indeed 😅 it is something worth looking into. There are free online tests that are considered quite accurate. Personally I still struggle with what I describe here. Just bought some pickups that have been obcessing over despite yesterday discussion on the relevance of pickups in a mix. But being self aware of our own behaviours can't be a bad thing even if it only helps sometimes.

I was thinking Everytime u find yourself mindlessly shopping for new guitars maybe put 10 dollars in a safe place for when the time arises where your gigging requires something new. There is no wrong way to do this Rafa. Keep up the interesting videos bud!

Trying to get out of the trappings of the mind and getting back to the essence of the passion and desire you may have for the instrument/music can be a deep dark hole. Glad you found your way out brother. Im more on the obsessive side so progression is slow and sends me on many side roads in terms of the instrument on all fronts. As far as GAS goes, trying to resell items you have come to realize didnt hold as much value as once thought in your mind was my humble pie.

It’s a struggle , we all have to find our own coping mechanisms. Yeah the difficulty in reselling is real, specially these days

It’s crazy since getting my Jem jr. ( my 11th guitar) and my katana 100 I’m strangely satisfied . Its an unnerving feeling for someone who’s been under the influence of G.A.S. For … well as long as I’ve been playing 😂.
Until I hit the lottery I’m probably ok. If i hit the lottery im going on a crazy shopping spree in the Thomann store 😂

It's not a disability it's a super power. Learn to harness it. I was able to follow along with your path of thinking. And have been down that road many times.

I only started learning guitar about 9 weeks ago & I'm documenting my entire learning journey on here so this was super motivational! Probably won't stop me buying a second one though hahah

There is nothing wrong with buying and trying guitars, but sometimes it can be counterproductive. it's a fine line. Good on you for taking this journey, its rewarding but frustrating at times :)

@@MrRafaztar I hear ya! Just be sensible... take the time to choose the right one (or three 😂) for us personally and then I suppose there's less reason to constantly chase the next! Thanks for the encouragement & wise words..!

yeah this the situation I'm in. Adult diagnosed with ADHD, I started playing guitar again during the pandemic. I have 2 electric guitars both decent, but i regularly get the urge to buy another one.

It the thrill of the chase and the joy of getting a new toy for something we can justify. But it often can bring regret over having bought something you like but is unnecessary and feed any sort of imposter syndrome. It's not wrong and I still do it all the time. But at least being aware of it can help I think

Igualzinho. Have that too but it's under control now. No diagnose yet.

You have to ask yourself. Am I going to be a guitar player or a guitar collector. Buying a pair of Air Jordon sneakers isn't going to turn me into a dominating NBA player. Buying a new Stratocaster won't make me a reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix. Spend your time developing your talent instead of your "arsenal".
