I am half (5th Generation) Anglo Australian from my father and half Turkish from my mother who was born in Turkey and moved to Australia in the 1980s, where she and my father at met and fell in love, at university, she was a student and my father was finishing his carpentry trade and working on the new part of the university. They have both visited Gallipoli since, and they found out that my father's grandfather fought in the same battles against my mother's great grand father at the battles of Battle of Hill 60, Battle of Sari Bair and Battle of the Nek. Ive personally read the documents, alongside journals and letters from both sides, and it's remarkable. There's even a few moments where you read about my Australian great father writing about how smokey the fields are and how its strangely quiet on that day, and my great x 3 Turkish grand father writes something very similar and writes about how its quiet for the first time in a week and he goes on about how he believes the Australian's and New Zealanders are resting for an oncoming offensive!
Both the Aussies & the Turks realised how bloody stupid they were during this time. Had family & friends that visited the site then looked at the sheer cliff faces clambered over by the ANZACs. A holy shrine for all countries & a legacy to those we left behind.
This battle is known as ''The battle of gentlemen.'' We Turks probably faced the most honourable enemy in our history. Both respect ANZAC soldiers and Turkish soldiers who lost their lives in the Gallipoli. 👋
Here is my thanks form Australia my great great great grandfather was there he fought there I'm sorry for all men including the Turks even though Turkey surrender my country was victorious thank you ANZACS
Lest We Forget. We Aussies couldn't have asked for better friends since federation, you kiwi's never let us down. Besides your leftist, woke political parties, I love all things New Zealand. G'day from the snowy mountains, Australia.
@selimt.8231 - Thank you Turks for showing us respect over the years. Thank you for Honouring Kamal Mustafa Ataturk, and continuing on letting us visit the Gallipoli peninsula, letting us build there so we have a place to commemorate our Anzacs. Few men have ever shown their fallen enemies the respect shown by Ataturk. few men have ever shown people not of their own kind such respect. We who are the Anzac descendants are able to visit on Anzac day and commemorate, and I am always so thankful for your people for this reason
Not the Allies, too early, they were "colonial " troops from the British Empire at the time. You are correct, we, I'm English, totally messed this up. The Turkish tactics and leaders were far better than ours. Arrogance and racism at the time, that the Turkish were only "bloody Arabs", played a big part.
@@KevinN-df8eo True very true, lots of men were killed by the folly of the officer corp and politicians in WW1 , very sad. My mum was from Australia so this battle affected my past as well.
Col Malone's Wellington Battalion gained the Heights but were not adequately reinforced - Aug 8, 1915, the day the NZers beheld the Narrows from the Hill - Lest We Forget!
No doubt the Turkish won this battle but that was certainly helped by British arrogance. I'm English and am fully aware of this. A real case for the British of "lions led by donkeys". The sick old man of Europe was not quite done yet. Churchill's idea was sound, but the operation was a disaster. As always in war, a total waste of young lives on both sides.
9:28 Mustafa Kemal was said to be a leftist. Very big mistake! He was a Turkish nationalist. He was someone who was above politics and thought about his nation.

@@samuelphillips4258 you were victorious because you were English colonial. We fought against ANZACs for once and we won.

I visited Gallipoli in 1999 a very humbling experience.
Growing up in New Zealand in the 80s and 90s, this battle was spoken about as our holocaust.
Edit. Not comparing the two 😊
In terms of magnitude I hope otherwise 2 completely different event in nature. Anyway Love from turkey to our anzac friends

Very intersting read about options from Mr. Churchill in Gallipoli and the numbers results.
He was nothing but a drunk.

I thought the best known battles of WW1 was Verdun and Somme
The British Historian is full of excuses, he should just face fact that the Allies got their asses kicked!

So where are the NZers? Gone.
Greeting from indonesia❤
Apparently we don't exist.
If there are no New Zealanders buried there, they obviously couldn't have fought and died at Galliopoli like we were brought up to believe.
I don’t think the British are arrogant I think our leaders are arrogant, especially in World War I

I see a film called Gallipoli with Mel Gibson

Funny that the looser Churchill later comes out as the winner of WWII.
You've been recently duped . Victim.
That'll be the Somme, at least to English speakers. If you're French, Verdun.

It's the same pronunciation for a non-Turk.
