    Another very educational video.
    Questions:
About the hot days- We are located in Florida (maybe moving to Waco!). Will this be an issue?
What are your thoughts about taking the dog to the beach and ocean? Will he require a quick bath (to kill any bugs) that may embed themselves in his coat?
Since we do not have a pool, would a steel tub (such as CountyLine 700 gal. Galvanized Round End Stock Tank, 8 ft. x 2 ft. x 8 ft.) from Tractor Supply work?

Hi!! Ok so my only thing with Florida would be the humidity/heat you would probably need to trim him down a bit more (never shave!) because it’s hot and humid all year round, and it’ll be more work, since you want to avoid any mats and humidity getting trapped between coat and skin, they have very sensitive skin including to seasonal allergies, and moisture, so a lot of brushing, rinsing and drying to make sure, skin is clean and dry. You can always just get them wet with a hose in the backyard, a kiddie pool is fun for them just like for labs and goldens.
If Im being completely honest I personally would not get a Newfie if I lived in Florida 🙈 (not sure what part of FL you’re in though) but that’s just me - just too hot and humid all year round IMO for them.

Love that you made this vid I live in Florida and am thinking of getting a newfie I’ve spoken to a breeder who lives here and I’m doing my research to find tricks to keeping the pupp cool in this hot climate I know you can buy them shoes for the pavement and there’s the water bottle bowls that you can bring to take them in walks I’m trying to find a groomer who knows how to groom Newfie’s and doing a bunch more research the breeder won’t even start to try to breed her dog for another 5 months so I have plenty of time and research which is what I’m trying to do especially living in Florida I know the beach and pools are an option here to keep the dog cool and we have ac which in my house is always blasting plus tile floors which is a plus but you definitely raised and addressed one of my biggest concerns which is the heat so thanks for the tips

So happy this helps!! Ideally newfs prefer cooler weather or at least having changing seasons, for them to enjoy winter weather. You may need to keep his/her coat shorter since humidity plus heat is not their friend. Heavy coats in hot humid climates trap moisture and and cause hot spots and sling infections. Also keep in mind that although swimming and being wet will keep them cool you do need make sure they dry … but so glad you’re doing so much research ❤️

      Hi Taryn-
We are also located in Florida ( North Florida) and are just in the infancy stages of research about rescuing our first dog which will be a Newfy.

Hi omg I never saw this comment! So sorry, unfortunately his breeder is no longer breeding anymore for a couple years now. I do recommend getting on the Newfoundland club of America website for more info on the breed. They actually have a hotline to talk to breed experts and they may connect you with a breeder breeder near by ❤
