Is there a frequency on 2M or 70CM for this. I only have a dreaded B-fang. I am looking at buying that rig thing who's name has obviously slipped my mind at this time. When I can afford it, one of the Xeigu HF radios will come live in my house. Being a general, I have a larger array of bands and frequencies than I had before. Digital and voice interest me. I have a neurological malfunction that may make CW out of my range, time will tell. My callsign is K0XHF. Mike, I really appreciate your videos. This one got me running on Win 10 with my ic-7300. But I am having a bit of a problem. After I end wsjtx the 7300 will not come out of USB-D on that band. It will go into LSB but not regular USB. USB phone seems to be working but the screen still says USB-D. Do you have anything you can share about this?
Hello Mike, I watched you video on setting up FT8, mine is windows in the shack Mac everywhere else. Anyway, in the Windows setup, I couldn't find a readme file. After loading the WSJT-X software I followed your steps as closely as possible considering the 2 different platforms. Once yours was running I noticed the box on the left displayed information, I assume it was other hams looking to communicate on FT8. On my system, I never saw anything in that block so I was not able to try to connect with anyone. I've checked everything and I don't see where I've made a mistake and I can't find the problem. Thanks for your great video on this and hopefully you will have a suggestion on what to look for on mine.
On windows you don't need to do anything with the read me file. Assuming you have rig control and are seeing stations on the waterfall but not decoding anything, I would say your time is not synced. Right click the time in the bottom right hand corner>Adjust Date & Time> under Additional settings click Sync Now. That should be all you need to do.
You sure can! I also do a live stream on Tuesdays at 3pm Central on 10 meters to encourage techs to get on the air. Come join us if you can. Usually it’s a bit of ssb phone and ft8.
That's normal. Depending where you are actually transmitting on the waterfall that frequency will change. You are mostly working split with FT8 unless you are transmitting and receiving a station on the exact same frequency. Sounds like it is working exactly as it should.
@@hamradiotube Mike, thanks. Right now I have another problem. Using SignaLink USB, FT-891, and Windows 10. WSJT-X settings does not show the USB Audio Codecs. In Device Manager, the USB Audio Codecs are under Universal Serial Bus Devices, but they SHOULD be under Sound, video and game controllers. Can you possibly tell me how to fix this?
@hamradiotube my db levels that you say should be in the green on the left side of wsjt-x never goes above 20 db. Sometimes it drops in the red as well. For windows 11
I am sure this question has been asked before. But how do I get this program on Windows 10, as I don't own an Apple computer... just curious because I really like the set up and functionality. Thanks!
I don't know if this has been answered before, but with a 13(?) character limit do you eliminate the grid square from your CQ if you're doing POTA / SOTA (i.e. CQ POTA KK8ABC for 12 characters), or do you put "CQ POTA KK8ABC CN72" (or whatever)?
Thanks for the quick response! I'm still trying to get the hang of CW SOTA / POTA, but I will try this with FT8 Radio and my (tr)uSDX when I get the chance.
This may be a dumb question but what if you have something like an EMCOMM-III-P with the wire thrown in a tree in a sloping setup and you're wanting to do FT8 using a 7300. Do you have to press the Tune button on the 7300 every time you change bands in WSJT-X or is it just pick the band in WSJT-X and start RX & TX?
If you've already tuned the antenna on the 7300 it should remember the settings so you shouldn't have to re-tune when switching bands. In WSJT-X there is actually a setting I didn't know about when I made this video that will remember the tune settings in WSJT-X. It has nothing to do with the radio, but it should bring the power slider to where you had it on each band. It's under Settings (preferences on a Mac)>Audio> at the bottom of that window you will see "remember power settings by band" and check both the Transmit and Tune buttons. I still hit the tune button on WSJT-X and make sure I'm not pushing the ALC out of habit, but theoretically you shouldn't have to. Keep in mind, if you change anything you may need to retune both the radio and WSJT-X.
@@hamradiotube Thanks..This is all new to me. I've had my General for a while but no HF stuff yet. Rumor Kenwood will be at Hamvention next month so I'm going to wait just to be safe. If nothing is coming I think I'll pull the trigger on a 7300 and Ecomm IIIP as I don't plan to leave up anything. My luck is I buy the 7300 and later this year or early next Icom will release an updated 7300 with built in wifi and a few features....thanks again for the reply
Kinda off topic but why does my 7300 with an external tuner tune at different powers. Example: it won’t tune at 30 watts and says good swr but i jump up to 100 and it starts tuning like it wasn’t tuned?
I see in the bottom of Gridtracker screen next to the call of who I worked a yellow triangle with the explanation symbol in it. Cannot find answer to that. Can you or someone else help with that. N6ZKI
I have not watched the entire video at this point. Interested in installation on MacOS 13. I have WSJX-X installed, but can't get it to recognize my USB connection to 7300. Might be my cable. I have a USB cable from something else. Do you have to install any drivers (from where)? Where did you get your USB cable? Peter WB3IZU
You may need to instal the Silicon Labs USB to UART driver www.silabs.com/developers/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers?tab=downloads You can check your USB cable by going to System Information > Hardware > USB and should see the Silicon Labs driver there once installed. Look under the USB Device Tree at the top of that window. You may need to scroll down until you see the silicon labs driver. Once you click on that it should show your 7300 connected and the location ID which is what you use in WSJT-X under Radio > Serial Port. As for cable, I use one from Tripp Lite you can order from my Amazon Store if need be www.amazon.com/shop/k8mrdradiostuff/list/1JGV63TG6OTM?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d They are nice cables with ferrites on both sides. RFI with a bad cable can and will cause connection issues with WSJT-X. Usually an audio error. Or just put a bunch of ferrites on your cable if you have them. Hope this helps.
@@hamradiotube Thanks Mike. That didn't work. I suspect my cable. Ordered what you suggested. I had planned to get a cable with the ferrites, but hoped I could get ahead of the game with my interim cable. I'll revisit the video once I receive the cable.
I got the cable you suggested and it worked perfect. Watched the rest of the video. Learned a lot, but need to watch it again. Your waterfall was docked, mine opened in a new window. Took me a long time to find because it was hidden behind main window. Couldn't find a way to dock it. 73 Mike.

I am currently working on my general license but have a rig and antenna. Can techs use this on 10m?
You sure can! I also do a live stream on Tuesdays at 3pm Central on 10 meters to encourage techs to get on the air. Come join us if you can. Usually it’s a bit of ssb phone and ft8.
@@hamradiotube Thanks!! I really appreciate your help and I will definately tune in to the live stream!!
I'm trying WSJT-X on 14.074.000, but each time I TX, it transmits on 14.073.500. Why does it jump down like that to TX? Thanks, CE4JDM

Yep. Just put POTA after CQ and you're good. CQ POTA KK8ABC CN72 is exactly how you'd do it. No clue how or why it works, but it does.
This seems about as exciting as WSPR.
lol. I posted something along the same line. But I am afraid to ask what WSPR is.
Thanks for a good demo of the program, very helpful 73 MW0HID
That’s what I use and it works great. 2 ferrite filters on the cable
I had to install the driver from the Icom website. I’m using windows 11.
I had a hard time at first
I got the cable you suggested and it worked perfect. Watched the rest of the video. Learned a lot, but need to watch it again. Your waterfall was docked, mine opened in a new window. Took me a long time to find because it was hidden behind main window. Couldn't find a way to dock it. 73 Mike.
HI I sent you an email asking how to set up the Yaesu FT 450 from radio to computer i have rs 232 cat to usb & the 6pin din keep getting error message in WSJT X any help would be greatly appreciated.

dB? Is positive from zero just as bad as negative from zero?
Positive signals are stronger (better).
Thanks for all the effort you put into this video, but it was mostly Greek to me. Too many terms that I’ve never heard and don’t understand. Perhaps I should have started with a more basic video.
Trying to save my log file but always comes up as a error on the latest WSJTX , no annoying
Hmmm...could you elaborate a little more?
@@hamradiotube sorry it turned out to be my other program was faulty all working now
Thank you for not being Australian
How do I set the clock on RS-918?
Time on rig is wayy off.
You don't do it on the radio you do it on a computer. If you're on windows, right click the time at the bottom right hand corner, select Adjust date/time and click Sync now. You do need to be connected to the internet of course.
