It doesn't matter what topic i search help for, your channel covers it. I'm going to plant some cuttings soon, i'm so excited and hope they turn out fine
this is super helpful! my mom gave me a flamy katty cutting and I've been rooting it over the winter (it took a long time bc of that lol) and this is now the 2nd time I'm attempting to pot it up. the first time it had root but they were a little small and ig the soil got too dry cuz I notice the leaves wrinkling so I took it out and back in the water it went (it was rooted in water so I could monitor them) but I just posted it up again since its pushed out a *ton* of root growth the these last few weeks of winter and I'm happy with the lengths of them! wish me luck ill try and keep a better eye on the soil dryness these next few weeks! >:)
Great video. Wondering what the potting soil is specifically as I don't really like purchasing some of the mixtures they sell at the store. I have some very mature roots that are supporting a Chinese Evergreen that I need to repot. They've been in water for about 9 months. Any suggestions on any of this would be appreciated including the soil
Love your videos! You get right to the point and provide clear very useful information! Question: I have a small Money tree cutting that has finally developed roots (in water). Have you had any success with potting Money tree cuttings? I’m a bit hesitant to pot as i don’t want the cutting to die.
Thank you. I've not but the principle should remain the same. The more roots there are the better chance you have. Also there is no rush to pot on. They will happily grow in water provided you give it nutrients.
i think the cuttings like the same conditions as full plants. the problem is replicating those conditions indoors in pots. needs super well draining mix and regular watering. imagine an epiphyte or semi in the understory of a rainforest. there the plants hold onto bark of trees and get lots of oxygen and regular rain and generally moist conditions. crucially, it's not bark that is ground up and packed into a container. this kills plants young and old. i've started using those moss poles that you fill with media, and they should be kept moist, whilst the media in the pot needs to be very free draining, unlike the moss pole. unfortunately the ground up peat moss and perlite tend to pack down with regular watering, which makes the potted cutting weak over time.
How about adding soil in a later stadium of your water propagation?what do you think about that? That way the water roots can adjust slowly. To the soil.that way you can transplant a complete root system into a pot, whithout damitging Anny roots
@@SheffieldMadePlants They are a little over ten days in water and not yet ready to pot but i had been wondering if the switch from water to soil would be an issue. this is my first attempt at producing plants from cuttings. these i begged from a friend.
Are these doing ok? I'm about to do this & everyone makes it seem as though u aren't suppose to plant them in the soil that deep, is this ok? Or is it because they're babies?
I’m curious too, putting soil halfway up the petiole. I thought I needed the stem above soil, and petioles above as well. Should I bury the growth point?
Hi, my monstera adansonii has grown many long roots during the propagation process. I’m planning on moving it to soil now, but I’ve noticed that the oldest roots have a brown, slimy coat, but it still grows new roots. What is this?
@@SheffieldMadePlants I’ve rinsed them quite often, but it doesn’t seem to work. I don’t apply pressure because I’m afraid it’ll damage the roots. Could it still be algae? I mean, I’ve propagated my plant in a glass see through jar so it makes sense, minus the not being able to rinse it off part
If I transter a plant in soil which is rooted in water more than 1 month will it die? I read somewhere that if the cuttings are kept in water for too long it will die if I transplant in soil
@@SheffieldMadePlants interesting, i was always taught to root a plant just below the soil line. I understand you wanted the stem supported and you said that stem would die back but? Anyway glad its doing well 👍
Would they do better if I added hydrogen peroxide to the water? I rescued some damaged hoya kerrii plants and had to chop about 1/3rd of the bottom off because it was too far gone (Rooted into wood and kept in a shady but warm spot and over watered. Didn't think any of it would survive!). I'm now really scared of giving what I salvaged root rot. 😂😊
@msrj899 Hey! One year later I know haha. Only to advise people who will see this comment that there are plants really easy to propagate like syngonium or potus and some others don't act in the same way, like in this case croton. I've cut some stems in early January this year and only one of four have roots of nearly 1cm large. Had the Best care with the plants like in the cutting process, cleaning with aloe Vera for avoiding plagues and changing water each 3days to avoid also mosquitoes and rotten. Be patient and consistent, if doesn't work go another time for it ❤

Yep

I use Sybotanica these days. It’s coco coir based with perlite

I follow your method, and for some reason, my propagated plants always end up turning yellow and dying off. What am I doing wrong?
Really hard to say without any details

Not tried that method actually. Might work. Not sure if it’s just better to throw them in at the deep end
How many rooted pothos cuttings in a 4” pot? Also, will the cuttings do well if the roots are long? I’ve had them in water for a few months.
Yep
Thank you so much!
You bet!
In those 2 to 3 weeks after potting, how often do you water the soil in average? And is the frequency the same in any water plant repotted into soil?
Just don't let the soil dry out. Maybe every 3 or 4 days but depends on your climate.
How many roots do i need to move it in soil ? thank you
A good 2 or 3 inches is a good bet
Should you water more than normal at first?
For a week for two keep the soil moist
thanks for that im just doing devils ivy in water and was wondering about this very point.
Perfect timing. Glad you found it useful. How long did it take to root in water?

@@dianesheehan8225 you can a little deep but yes don't bury it all the way
Do you use the same type of compost/perlite mix for all of your plants or do you change accordingly?
I use the same on all apart from succulents where I add a little more perlite to lighten it even more.

If I transter a plant in soil which is rooted in water more than 1 month will it die?
I read somewhere that if the cuttings are kept in water for too long it will die if I transplant in soil
No it will be fine
Do you make your own potting mix?
I used to make a compost and perlite mix but now i buy it from Sybotanica
I want to propagate my monstera but it has only 4 leaves. Should I wait till it has a significant amount of leaves before making cuttings?
It will grow a new stem where you make the cut so shouldn’t matter too much
Surely potting the root so deep, will rot the stem?
It's happily growing lots of new leaves 😁

Peroxide is good to treat root rot yes
If you keep them moist how do they not get root rot?
Moist for the first few weeks
can you show the two new Monsteras now after 3 months? I have one cutting that developed one new leaf and then stopped...
Mine has got 2 new leaves. Monstera tends to be a bit slow. Can you see the beginnings of the new leaf on the leaf?
@@SheffieldMadePlants I hardly can see it... may I send a pic so you can help me judge? How can I send it to you?
My cuttinggs rarely root. Why does this happen?
Hmm not sure. What are you trying to root? I’d say make sure it’s in a bright spot and give it enough time. Do you top up the water?
@@SheffieldMadePlants no I don't put water upto the leaf only the stem stays in the water.
Do crotons root in water?
Yes it does. You need a good section of stem with bottom leaves removed. I've tried rooting a leaf but it didn't work, you need some of the stem.
@@SheffieldMadePlants Thanks!
