Great tips! As a former San Diegan, I'd like to recommend you look up and get to know the San Diego Filipino Cinema group of filmmakers! I'm not Filipino myself but they took me in with open arms and are some of the nicest friends I've ever made. Excellent and highly knowledgeable filmmakers who run a non profit to help the San Diego community make films about Filipinos, and to help Filipinos make films. Shout out to Benito and his team!
You have no idea how meta this comment is hahaha… I’ve been a volunteer for SDFC since 2019 and recently had two films I shot screen at the San Diego Filipino Film Festival this year 🥺🫶🏽🎥 so yes, I echo your recommendation 💯 Benito and Emma are such amazing and warm mentors for emerging filmmakers- Filipino or not.
What was your name? Also who do you know from SDFC? chances are i know them too hehe
Solid insight. Looking forward to seeing more of your journey. 🙏
thank you!!!
glad to find u from ur prev vid of "less is more"- will be looking forward to this project of yours! thank u for sharing :)
thank you, angie! hope this project continues to be helpful to you :)
the Luc Forsyth video at 3:13 :D love this man!
appreciante the words and honest talk!
I'm looking for an internship right now and it feels kinda hard to send an application, since I feel like I don't have a showreel that resembles what I learned in the the past 5 years.
Best of luck! and yes, Luc is the man!
Been watching your posts. They have been a positive influence. I went to school in San Diego many moons ago , (1980's) a wonderful spot for creativity. Keep up the good work!
Happy to hear that! and yes, loveee San Diego.
Very cool. I just started vlogging and suddenly am seeing all these similar channels. Subscribed.
yes! the same thing is happening for me- thanks for being here! 💯
This was a great video! Gave me energy 💪🏾🙏🏾🔋💥.... Thanks... I owe you one 🙂
awhhh, thank you! and nah, you don’t owe me anything. just thanks for watching 💯
Good advice.....Here is my .02 cents. Be someone people want to help, be someone people like to be around, finally be competent, on time and show initiative. They will be calling you back,
great advice!
Gems!
💎✨💯
Thanks! It was helpful. Thanks for being here, I also see Luc Forsyth in the video, which already makes me feel good about seeing this as there are only certain UA-camrs/filmmakers that one resonates with. Keep up the good work ✨🌟
ahhh this is so nice to hear! yes, Luc is such a good “mentor” haha. only hope to be at least a fraction as helpful and insightful as he is!
@@rissamayrox Yes, he is, I have gained so much confidence from him, such a great mentor! Don't worry you are gonna be helpful and insightful about your experiences of being a filmmaker. Still, it takes a lot of courage to put your voice up on this platform and with time you surely gonna be helping a lot of people! 🍕
Very solid advice. I'm still trying to be less precious and show my work warts and all. I'm curious how you shoot BTS footage? I'm thinking I should just putting my phone in some corner or shelf and record. Not sure if it should be a fancy setup or not haha
Ryan! so happy this was helpful. and yes, your work was made to be seen!!! it’s also cool to look back and see how far you’ve come as you progress on your journey… also no need for a fancy setup. All the BTS clips seen in this video were shot on my iPhone- i also use a mini phone tripod or i have an articulating arm with a magsafe attachment and i use that to mount my phone to my tripod, light stands, or literally anything. then i typically put my phone on timelapse mode then get back to work
also don’t feel like you have to go crazy. i typically only get one BTS per shoot especially since I want to focus on being present on set. but on the chiller sets, i try to get more.
“People want to work with people who are already working.”
100%
And you don’t even need to be actually getting paid. Just make it look like you’re on a set that is worthy of getting paid 😁
Oh, 100%. It's all about the social proof as you've said many times on your channel :)
