I haven’t related to anyone as much as I have until I’ve seen you! First I just graduated film school this past fall, and I was applying for work but I stumbled upon a content creator/influencer that I loved for a while and they offered me a part time job editing their videos which is a great start for me. So I’m doing that part time job and freelance work which thankfully I’ve been getting a few clients but I defiantly understand you completely! Again I really relate career wise and I’d love to follow along and watch you grow! You got this!!!! From one filmmaker to another I only want to see success for you! I’ve been trying to upscale my one work a lot of self doubt but I love your style already! ❤

Melanie!!!! So sorry it took me so long to reply to this… but i really appreciate you taking time to tell me your story. Congrats on graduating film school btw! It sounds like you are already on a very good track- and of course, I hope following along with my journey will help you on yours. Other than self-doubt, is there anything else you may be have trouble with? I’m still figuring out things myself but if there’s anything I can potentially address in my videos, you know I’m here for you! I only wish you success as well!💯

Oof. This hit hard. I'm 25, and have been struggling to find opportunities, community, and money in film, while still doing the writing and directing work I care about. Thank you for being so open; you're not the only one going through this.

Thanks for your candidness Marissa! Also love the positive attitude you're adopting with all of it. I feel like I'm in the same boat as you, but looking forward to 2023 for greater opportunities! #Mabuhay

Hi Marissa I'm happy I found your channel. :) It looks very good I hope you'll keep making the videos I'm here to watch them. :) I think you made the absolute right move and I'm happy for you! I have a 9 to 5 office job and started photography and filmmaking as a hobby. Sometimes after a cool project it was kinda devastating to sit back in the office :D but I appreciate it more and more. The work is pretty stress-free and actually gives me a ton of free time to work on my film projects. I did a few paying gigs too and I realized this way I can choose the projects I'm really interested in and I don't have to burn out chasing any photo-video work just to make a living. It would be nice to get rich while making what I love so I'll continue the projects I love get good in those and maybe someday I can do them fulltime. But right know I feel like a nice steady job is what gives me the necessary calmness and helps me focus on being creative and productive. I'll keep following your journey keep on the good work I wish you all the best. :)

I can relate to alot of this. The prospect of entrepreneurship in a creative field is very alluring. I'm currently in mid-pivot myself lol. So I'm right there with you. We got this!

Full time freelancing is tough especially without health insurance.

How can anyone save up 6 months to a year of one's salary, for rent, expenses.. etc.. ?? Like, that's not even possible unless you're 18 and live with parents. We're talking about living month to month, dream to dream, and saving is literally not possible in so many peoples lives lately. Ohh yeah, also add in children, or two children, maybe you're a single parent, and want to make a film... So, going from freelancing to freelancing as a filmmaker, and making any sort of investment is extremely challenging, but that's what freelancers do, we find a way. It's totally insane, but what else are people supposed to do with their lives ?
