    My thoughts are that they need to double the number of graders to reduce the truck wait times or reduce the number of trucks contracted . My other concern is regarding erosion that unless the sea wall is in bedrock, it may be washed away.

All using very basic tools and brooms, and as I sat there and ran the numbers through my head, I realized 2 men with modern equipment could do it faster, but not for less money. Probably worked out to be equal costs by the time you add up gas, parts and maintenance.

    D65 Komatsu's are NOT small. Any bigger and they wouldn't have been nimble enough to maneuver. Staging the trucks farther away from the dozers would eliminate some congestion, and it appears they did this later in the video. Given the tight space constraints and the tech they had... I'd say they did a fine job. As far as soil mixing, who cares? if it's not specified in the contract, it doesn't happen. As far as compaction goes... Each truck prolly weighs 50K kilos loaded. Time, Gravity and rain will do the rest.

    Massive projects like this requires a massive fleet of heavy equipment and qualified operators. Given enough time and equipment, you can remove mountains and put them someplace else. When Japan built it's new man made island airport, they removed 3 mountains for fill material. Flat ground is at a premium in Japan, now they have 3 new flatten mountains to develop and a giant island airport.
    Anyone know capacity of the dump trucks? Must be over 20 cubic meters? Dozers are small, but keeping up with trucks. Management of dumping is important. They can't get more trucks into front, they are queued up in long line. Long and narrow site that restricts trucks to single line going in and leaving.

    • @SubGenius1101
      @SubGenius1101 2 роки тому +17

      It is very obvious the dozers can not keep up to the trucks. 2 dozers and 20 trucks ready to back up and another 50 waiting in line is a horrible site. Extremely dangerous operation and such a waist of time and resources to have that many trucks. All the trucks are so crowded and not even letting the dozers back up far enough to get all the material. Very inefficient.

    This must be a government project, it is hugely inefficient and absolutely no quality control on the fill. I saw one load that looked almost like mud and several that looked like sand. If they got rid of the congestion at the dump site so they ould dump continuously and the dozers could work continuously, send home all the sand and dirt trucks they could probably advance faster with something you could build on, without the long line and at half the cost.

    Dumping dirt mixed with small rocks like that along an eroding coastal area generally doesn't work for very long, this is because the sand underneath it keeps washing away. You need to place tetrapods there all along the edge to build a seawall, this stop the ocean water from washing away the sand, because it crashes into the tetrapods instead. These tetrapods can be stacked together and they may come up 4 metres above the water line, and they will also exist about 6 metres below the water line as well, so they protect erosion from below as well. You can also place medium sized rocks first down before placing the layer of tetrapods down. So you can place medium sized rocks that are about the rough size of soccer balls in a thick layer along the area, then place the layer of tetrapods over them. The tetrapods will hold the layer of medium rocks in place, and the medium rocks will even more tightly protect the land area from eroding into the sea.
