#OnThisDay Biggie dropped his debut album Ready to Die and placed himself at the forefront of the ongoing East Coast Renaissance. His flow, wordplay, delivery, content, and personality are all aspects that put Biggie in the conversations of being one of the greatest of all time. All of which, he embodies on Machine Gun Funk.
The assemblage of legendary producers on this record is a massive factor in it’s tone, and Easy Mo Bee can’t be praised enough for his six contributions. Machine Gun Funk is quintessential 90’s East Coast Hip Hop. The horns, boom bap drums, and a Parliament sample?! I mean, wht else do you need?
Machine Gun Funk is one of my favorites not just in the record, but the entire genre. +10 points for sampling Chief Rocka by Lords of the Underground in the hook! Another classic in its own right.
