- This performance was recorded May 1, 2018 for my Undergraduate Recital at Fresno State. I haven’t shared it until now, because I intended rerecord it at the end of the semester. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. I’d love to give it another crack one day, though!
Just before the start of my final semester, I was told I needed a piece from every era. Including, but not limited to, a Baroque Suite and or Classical Sonata. I had been building a South American and Spanish program for two years, and wasn’t interested in working on music I wasn’t passionate about. I’m still not.
So, I tortured myself learning L’Inverno in its entirety in three months along with Aguado’s Rondo No. 02 Op. 02. The performance could’ve been much stronger with more time, but this was my best given the time frame.
It was a pleasure collaborating with my colleagues. The guitarists are like family to me, and we’re still tight to this day. All of which are amazing musicians. Shout out to Emma Hill (cello) for indulging me considering we were complete strangers!
This experience developed my musical maturity considering I had no prior experience leading an ensemble of any capacity. Experience I’d expand upon in grad school as I focused on chamber music.
The idea to perform L’Inverno (Winter) came from work with my brother Salburguesa five to six years prior. We played the first movement of Spring as a guitar duet, and the first movement of Winter as a guitar trio and bassist (electric).
