@@MisterBeauJanGels Billboard had an insane method of calculating the top songs of a "year". They didn't use a calendar year; they used a period from September or October of one year to September or October of the following year. So Billboard's top hits of "1977" had hits from late 76 to late 77. "You Light Up My Life" peaked later in the year so appeared on Billboard's Top 100 of 1978 list - at #3 - when clearly it was NOT the third most-popular song in America in 1978. I distinctly remember that on Casey Kasem's American Top 40 broadcast of the 100 biggest hits of 1977 which aired very near to around late December 1977 or early January 1978, Andy Gibb's "I Just Wanna Be Your Everything" was the #1 song of '77. There were some other differences as well. I've seen this alternative ranking of the songs here before. I've always wondered what the reason for the disparity was/is.
Likely, because the official Billboard ranking started off with "Devil's Gun" by CJ & Company at #100, which had only appeared in the Top 40 for a couple of weeks, and had peaked extremely low; Casey was aware that many in his year-end audience had never even heard of it before. It was probably hard for him to imagine beginning an 8-hour broadcast with a song so unfamiliar to his listeners ... In the Billboard ranking, "You Light Up My Life" was nowhere to be found, as Billboard shelved its points for 1978 ... And the #1 song of 1977 was "Tonight's the Night", which Casey thought his listeners would associate with 1976 rather than 1977. So American Top 40 slapped together their own little year-end countdown that ditched "Devil's Gun" entirely, randomly included "You Light Up My Life" and had a #1 that was more associated with 1977.
Alive in 1977 Michael Landon ( forty /forty one ) Prince ( eighteen/ nineteen) Eva Longoria ( one / two ) Andy gibb ( eighteen/ nineteen) Whitney Houston ( thirteen/ fourteen) Faye Dunaway ( thirty five/ thirty six ) John Davidson ( thirty five/ thirty six ) Reese Witherspoon ( zero / one ) Farrah Fawcett ( twenty nine/ thirty ) Richard chamberlain ( forty two / forty three ) Richard Dawson ( forty four / forty five)
Peter Frampton’s I’m In You the video was playing ARS I’m so into you. And what happened to Debbie Boone’s You Light Up My Life, that was number one for a dozen weeks near the end of the year?
Who was forty one in 1977 Michael Landon ( actor on little house on the prairie) Engelbert Humperdinck ( singer sing after the lovin ) Mary Tyler Moore ( actress on the Mary Tyler Moore show ) Alan Alda
