The Kelly Clarkson Show is the uplifting daytime destination for humor, heart, and connection featuring Emmy-winning talk show host, Grammy-winning artist and America’s original idol, Kelly Clarkson.
Ed Asner was one of the nicest and most approachable actors. Really down to earth. I was fortunate enough to have met Mr. Asner in Montclair, NJ many years ago, maybe about 1995. He came here to help out a young director who was putting on a play in a small theatre. Ed Asner acted in the play with the other young actors and afterwards the audience could stay and meet the actors. I went over to Mr. Asner while he was putting food on his plate. He happily put his food down and took the time to give me his autograph. He asked me my name and then shook my hand. Really nice person.
My Dad could have doubled for Ed Asner. Whenever friends drove by him they would always yell out, "Hey, Ed Asner!" Every time I see Ed Asner, I think of my Dad.
My Dad too!
He told the story differently in another, earlier interview. When he auditioned for Mary, he came off way too angry and threatening. He could sense that they weren't happy with his performance. They said "thank you, we'll let you know". He replied "No, I'd rather know now. If there was something wrong with my performance, tell me what it is and let me do it again. They looked surprised, and reluctantly said "well, could you do it a little less angrily?" He said he immediately knew what the problem was. He was playing the emotions seriously, not for comedy. So he did it again in a comedic, less threatening manner, and he could tell they were happier with his reading. In her autobiography, Mary's version of this audition matches Lou Grant's earlier version of the story.
I can’t believe he’s in his 90’s and is still acting and can still remember his lines and everything it’s just incredible
He is something.
He is amazing Sometimes he is Funny
He just died.

Unfortunately he passed away recently but still had a very decorated career
Rest Easy ED
Thanks for the years of entertainment! RIP, Mr. Asner.
Rest in Peace Ed. I followed your career since I was a kid in the 70's. When Up came out, it was the first movie that made me cry as an adult. Thank you for the memories.
My mom went to high school with him. She said back in those days he was a really shy kid who wrestled and played on the football team.
Woah epic, expirence
R.I.P Ed,you will be missed! Great show Kelly! Lovely on Reba's video also I may add, love all, 🎤💜🎶🎸🎙🎵⚘❤🦋🙏
Rest In Peace, Mr. Ed Asner.
I feel like Mary Tyler didn't want him on the show was not an accurate title for this. She simple said are you sure to the producers after he left the room. That's not her her telling the producers don't hire him or if you do I will quite.
God bless you, Ed Asner!!
Most know him from Up, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Lou Grant which was a spinoff after the MTM Show was canceled.
Thank you Ed! Wonderful comedic timing and great actor! Hope you get to rest and bring some entertainment to the afterlife :-) I’m sure you’re “Up” there!
No one else could have been Lou Grant.
Few actors have had the range of Mr Asner.
His live action stuff is impressive, but his voice work is legendary.
He will be missed.
In 1978 or 1979 I worked at Salishan Resort gourmet dining room outside Lincoln City Oregon as a bus boy. Ed Asner was on vacation there and he came in to eat a certain evening. I was 18 or 19 years old. I was heading to his table to pour his water and practicing in my head how I would greet him. Should I say hello Ed or hello Mr. Asner or just Ed Asner?😂 As I was pouring his water, I looked at him and said: "Hello Mr. Ed" He gave me a funny look, and I walked away with the realization that I just called this well know actor a horse.
He passed away this morning. A great actor.
Loll Ed Asner I can smell you from here
Whitney Cummings reminds me of the poor Man's version of Flo from progressive
Great to see he seems in good health.
Love Ed Asner♥️
C’mon Mark, Don’t be stingy!
That's where it spits.
i need it.. i need it right now
You got that beautiful mouth
He was adorable! He’ll be missed.
"Wow!" I'm sure she had no clue about that book
I am soooooooooooooooooooo in Love with Ed Asner's voice. Perfect narrations.
RIP Mr Asner
Kelly’s comment about movie theater floors is dead on. I did maintenance in theaters and quit counting the times I had to replace track lighting in the floors because the pop syrup had eaten the wiring-and the smell was nearly bad enough to put a maggot off its feed!
I know him best as a voice actor. Love his work
@@barb6868 I’ve only seen bits and pieces of MTY you’re right he’s hysterical but for me he’ll always be Hudson from Gargoyles Carl from up and Ed Wunsler from Boondocks maybe its an age thing?
A real man of the people. Sacrificed relationships and his own financial security to speak up for the little guy.
He will be miss by the cast and fans all around the world rest in peace. Xx.❤
I love them all💛
Have a beautiful weekend everyone!
Wonderful actor Ed is
I really don't care for the interviewer. She doesn't have a clue. Shows no respect and the fake laugh is awful.
@Chandler White Asner speaks of Alexander Pope she emits a mindless empty "WoW"....eyeroll...
May he rest in peace
Normally I think the Fallon-esque reaction to jokes is really fake but I really believed it in response to that pornography line. It was so out of left field and unexpected. If I live to be as old as Asner I hope I get to have his where withall.
He's so funny!
I agree
He is Carl Fredricksen
Lou Gran't after MTM was such a special show. It's here on youtube if you wanna watch them.
Wow, what a terrible interview.
He’s a treasure 💛
Rest in peace, Ed Asner
This man is a treasure!
Looks like water would bead right off of Whitney.
RIP Ed Asner you will always be Lou Grant! Love your character on the MTM Show
I only know him from 'Up'
He also plays Sid on Cobra Kai
RIP Ed Asner
RIP Ed Asner.
I lovvveeee Ed
Title is misleading , Mary was not sure... not that she didn't want him on the show
He will be missed :(
Come on mark don’t be stingy
That's my hole! That's where it spits!
Kelly is right on about theatre goers. I got seriously beaned by a popcorn box some moron threw up in the air like a boomerang!
R.I.P. Ed Asner
All the actors were tight on the MTM show but there was a falling out between a Mary and Ed in the late 90s over a telemovie they did together. Also they were politically opposites. Thankfully they made up before Mary died in 2017.
I cleaned nights at a movie theater for 3 years as a child not even a teen. & yes people are nasty. & the bathrooms hands down are the scariest because there's only 1 way in and out. I actually would so take that job again. I got all the old posters after the movies were over and so many other amazing thing's that were sent for advertising the movie... My favorite is I have the whole inspector gadget toy & wont let my kids touch it... the tummy is a phone.
Mr. Fredricksen? Am I supposed to dig the hole before or after?
THAAAAAAAATS……. NONE OF MY CONCERN
What?! Mary said what?. ' Oh! Mr. Grant!!"
RIP Ed Asner
He has gone through Nigeria falls with his house tied to balloons(Up reference).
Niagara Falls
Ed Asner had appeared with MTM in the movie "Change of Habit" along with Elvis a couple years earlier than the MTM Show auditions so she almost certainly knew who he was, although they had little if any screen time together -- his part was minor but he did have some good scenes -- so it's not like she would have known him well. But she would have known who he was.
Not really , Ed was a character actor in dramas and Mary was doing the DVDShow a comedy. Except for the Elvis movie they never crossed paths. Not everybody in show biz knows one another.
This title is misleading. His audition wasn't impressive the first time, which is why they let him do it again and selected him. It's appalling how you feel the need to insult a dead person by throwing allegations on them based on words taken out of context. Asner would be disgusted.
Only Ed and Betty White remain from the MTM Show! 😔
Ed passed away today 🥲
Jinxed Ed.
whitedead
1:23 Books, treasures, and WHAT?
And to think I never knew that Kelly Clarkson was a pirate. Ahoy mateys!
Don't be stingy
This is not quite accurate. Ed Asner WAS hired to portray Lou Grant after all. Asner gave, by his own admission, a mediocre first audition but he was allowed a second chance whereby he gave a better performance.
What happened to Kelly's eye ?
Allergic reaction to some type of dander flying in her eye.
Roland Daggett 🙌
been around since the 50s doing supporting parts-
Is mr fredricksen from up
Ed I wish I worked for you
That’s my hole, that’s where it spits.
RIP, mensch!
What's up with the eye patch on Kelly?
👍👍👍👍👍
This Guy He Looks Like Danny Devito.
It’s gonna be quick with me because it’s been a long time
Why does Kelly shout rather than talk? Hard to listen to.
Love Mr. Asner but why couldn't he be on zoom??
My Mom couldn't even get Skype right in her 70s. Can't imagine if she was still alive trying to Zoom in her 80s. Some people don't do tech; some believe in personal appearances - it is what it is.
This is painful. Ed's like "well, it's a paycheck".
Ed Asner looks like John Hammond, John Williams and Sam Melvick
What year was this?
2020
The title is click bait.
Rip
Why does Kelly have an eye patch on?
Is Kelly a pirate 🏴☠️?
They say you grow into the face you deserve, wonder if that's true..
I'm not sur that Ed should have been giving interviews at this point. I love Ed but I've seen some appearances from this period and he was pretty inappropriate.
Why does she have an eyepatch?
Because she's a pirate
Allergic reaction to something in her eye i believe
What's up with the eye patch? Did her ex also take her right eye??
It’s not that, that big.
Kelly hehehehe
Jameson
“Didn’t want him on the show” is not at all what he said she said. said. Stop with the clickbait!
Why is Ed, a legend, and precious human being risking his health on this nobody's show?
He's in his 90's. I think he's old enough to decide for himself what he wishes to do. He's enjoying life. FREEDOM BABY!!
Everything seems to be within safety guidelines and he’s old and wise enough to make his own choices.
E. L. If you can't be nice, be quiet. Consider yourself culturally canceled, you jerk!
How dare you call Kelly Clarkson a nobody. She is not a nobody.
Scowl is so bad
don't be stingy kelly
Did Kelly have eye surgery why does she have a eye patch
Some nasty people in the comments. Yikes lol
1:17 mannnn that was the most bogus "WOW" I ever heard, ask Kelly Clarkson to quote 1 character from the iliad lmao she is bonkers
Does she have a farting problem? Why is she seated so far from her guests? It's almost rude.
God she talks way too much.
Mary Tyler Moore did not want him?! How worst HE'S A WHOLE LEGEND AND SHE JUST REJECTED HER CHANCE
Calm down. It's a clickbait title.
RIP Mr. Asner
