I didn’t realize it ever before (I haven’t seen a lot of interviews of her), but she actually IS Mary in real life. This was like watching my childhood friend Mary Richards on tv after all these years. Glad to be part of the second generation of watchers of that masterpiece. RIP you beautiful beautiful soul.
People tell lots of jokes. We are just advancing and evolving as a society not to tell jokes that are made at someone else's expense when it is undeserved and rude. If you want to keep telling jokes about Polish people or overweight people or using your fingers to make your eyes "Oriental" while making a "Funny" voice to mock people from Asia, I guess you can do that in private to people who appreciate that type of thing. Yesterday someone who didn't appreciate this advice threw a can of soda at my face and hit me in the eye. Don't worry, though. It didn't hurt. It was a soft drink.
It's a pretty tame joke. I'd heard it a dozen times by the time I was 15. The idea that people are more uptight about suggestive jokes now than twenty years ago is just ridiculous. And why would anybody complain? Not racist, not sexist, not homophobic. It's very MOR. You need to get out more.
When I was a little boy in the early 1960s, I used to confuse Mary Tyler Moore with my mom. In my defense, they looked, sounded and acted very similar. My dad and my older brother teased me about this for decades...and I didn't mind a bit.
Mary looked beautiful, inside and out, from beginning to end! Mary, you are sorely missed. There is only one Mary, irreplaceable.
I had a massive crush on her as a young lad. I envy her husband. She must have been the complete package of beauty, wit, fun, and vivaciousness.
And you forgot stone-cold moneymaker
Ditto ! She could change my whole world with her smile !
@@sallybrookner4158 I never KNEW she used to Drink. Perhaps the Diabetes was secondary to burning a hole in her Pancreas with the Booze??
AND, she does stupid pet tricks! Who knew?
Yes

she gave Dave his first real job on network TV with a short lived variety? show, so he was always very thankful to Mary
And her husband Grant Tinker would go on to be CEO of NBC and support Dave's career. That was a good couple to be friends with!
It just occurred to me...her dog's name is Dudley Moore! 🍸
Ahah 😂
He could paw the piano and was always asleep by 5pm.
In the Mary Tyler Moore show, she understood that having great co-stars would make the shows better. She put aside her ego and let her co-stars shine.
Oh what a lady, she still has such great timing, and total class. I miss her.
The very best
I absolutely adore Mary. Wouldn't it be great to be her friend? Oh wait, she was a friend to all of us for over 50 years.
Dave was smitten and who wouldn't be. She was truly lovely.
Quite!
@@krisscanlon4051 I was smitten when she was Laura Petrie.
😍I was smitten too..
😕What's smitten mean?
She is just lovely 🌹. I always got a kick out of her saying oh Rob.
It’s a treat to hear her sing on this segment. Loved everything she did. Very much influenced me in the fine arts.
What a wonderful appearance by Mary. She seemed so relaxed and happy.
She was sassy AND classy 🌻
I never thought that I word hear those words come out of Mary's mouth. What a star!!
She always held herself like a dancer.
Mary Tyler Moore brought so much joy to the world and left it here for us.
Omigosh. Somebody told me that joke years ago and I laughed my a$$ off. I never would have figured they heard it from Mary Tyler Moore!
It's crazy that the Mary Tyler Moore show were very old shows when this interview happened. But much more time has passed since this interview.
That was a VERY prolonged hug, Dave - so long that they had to cut away to Paul!
Wasn't Dave's first TV gig on her short-lived variety show?
@kstepko Dave is a sexual harasser of women.
MTM was incredibly gorgeous 😍😍
IS
🤣
I've never seen this segment of David Letterman with MTM. It is fantastic. No wonder everyone loved Mary Tyler Moore.
Hurts a little to watch this, I miss her
To see Mary’s face blush is priceless.
*priceless (?) 🙂
She was my second great boyhood crush, after Annette. What a classy, beautiful lady.
I met her once… Very pleasant encounter at a movie theatre up near Hudson, New York. I don’t remember the theatre or the movie but I remember her…
I grew up in Red Hook, about 25-30 minutes south of Hudson…I know the area well.
I think MTM lived in Millbrook NY at one point so that makes sense.
you were so lucky! Did you get a pic?
@@keefriff99 Yes she had a small farm in Millbrook, a couple of horses… some dogs.
@@MovieMakingMan - No, there were no cellphone cameras back then… we didn’t know what a selfie was 😂
My dad used to tell this joke. Hearing it from MTM is just priceless!
So so gorgeous Mary RIP ❤️
lol. I was always a big fan of MTM.... she was always so entertaining and funny.
Good to see you happy Dave
That was nice of Dave to cover for the dog.
I can't believe I didn't see the punchline to that joke coming down Broadway, but it cracked me up! And as always, love Paul's reaction.
Mary Tyler Moore was the epitome of Grace and Beauty ♥️👏🏽💖🏆👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🇺🇸🌹🌹🌹
What a great talk show guest- of course.
Loved Mary's joke😂
Mary sounds like Sue Ann Nivens with her naughty joke :)
Only she could tell that joke, I miss those days when ppl weren't so uptight 😂😂😂😂
Yes
No one tells jokes anymore

Leah Watson apparently we have a few David’s who have drunk the cool-aid and seem a little upset by your post. 👆🙄🙄
@@TC-dw6wg
Not upset. You and Leah are just talking through a haze of nostalgia and confusion is all.
That joke was like The Aristocrats-lite.
I actually thought it was gonna be a version of the Aristocrats joke when she started telling it . . . 😮
Totally! Lol
I thought the Rob Reiner story was going to have an "Oh Robb!" in it. How can you not love this woman?
Would love to see that clip of Dave and Michael Keaton on Mary's 70s variety show.
Dave did finally show it on one of his last shows. It was pretty funny.
Oh, Darling Mary!
WOWZER !! naughty, naughty Mary !
My ex (and now deceased) father in law told me this joke 40 years ago. Still makes me laugh.
She was such a lovely and dignified lady.
What a gorgeous lovely lady she was !!!! Gone too soon !
She looked like she was having fun.
Mary was so wonderful.
One of my moms growing up , along with jane Wyatt , Shirly Jones , and my real one Elizabeth Marie Broomall Solloway
Fantastic interview.
RIP Dudley
I miss that lady. rip Mary!
Absolute treasure of a woman...her HBO documentary a must see! When I was a kid I said I want to marry my own Laura Petrie
She’s spectacular.
Simply the best!
I had a awesome laugh here, She plays the self-spot bit very well too LOL 😂 great Lady !!🤩🤗
That was A VERY long hug
A classic beauty.
She's a great actress
"OHHHH Rob!"
So, the dog's name is "Dudley Moore."
Poor Dudley had stage fright.
I was too young to appreciate how beautiful she was.
Dogs of all types are the greatest . Cant imagine a world you without them . who would want to ....

That joke was funny as hell. 6:55
She was outstanding in "Ordinary People"
I don't care that he didn't sing. Dudley is still a Good Dog. 12/10.
I never thought of that. That WAS a good joke. Love that girl with the 3 names.
There's a legendary lost film duet with Dudley Tyler Moore and Michigan T Frog.
Great lady. Always lovely.
Laura Petrie.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Best laugh ever.
That joke would definitely offend someone in 2024 😂😂
For sure! But it made my day! :D
Ah... So THAT's why Breakfast At Tiffany's never came into town, huh...
She was 57 at the time.
She has no wrinkles! 😍
Wow, this was 30 years ago
I believe Dave Letterman made his TV debut with a guest appearance on the Mary Tyler Moore Show . . .
She was a treasure!
That was good. 🤣
Damn, she's good. Always was, of course.
I love Mary Tyler Moore.
Peter Gunn Legs 🦵
So, the dog is named Dudley Moore?
Im so old I remember seeing the movie in the theater that Mary and Dudley Moore made together. It was actually pretty good though kinda sad.
When Letterman was actually funny. MTM...RIP. You will always be my 2nd TV surrogate mom.
This was 30 years ago. If she was still with us, and made that joke today, she'd have the GLBT community upset at her.
+
I would buy Pauls shirt!
Loved Mary. Wanted to be Mary. RIP
best acting job she did was ordinary people
People get 'busted' for rental car mix ups all the time.
Dudley Didn't Do!
Amazing joke!
gorgeous....Hubby was a lucky guy!!
The video title gives away the punchline of the joke.
Perfect as Brooke Shield’s mom in Lipstick Jungle.
She is still beautiful today God bless her 🙏🏼❤️
Terri Garr taking a shower, please.
Dave was on her variety show
Those legs led up to that joke 🫡
Love MTM❤
