Very good vid. Amped 1 has been my pedal amp for some time now. Dozens of gigs and has performed flawlessly. It does take a little time to set up how you want it but it is super easy to adjust on the fly. The sounds direct to PA are very clear and it's very touch responsive. It's a great product. I can't imagine going back to an amp, I have no need to now.
@j Nixo I split the xlr out to the pa and my stage monitor. Absolutely worth it. The em out is superb and I've never had a more satisfactory sound either out front or on stage. No feedback issues. I'd say try one if you can. I can't imagine you wouldn't find a tone in there you didn't like. It has serious balls and a very responsive eq.
I think it's cool that it can be used as a real amp with a cab and as a silent recording tool. To me, the most important thing is that it can take pedals well. I have a Boss IR-200 right now, but those amp models are like Boss' interpretation of those amps, so they're not really modelled correctly. The Blackstar Amped-1 doesn't really explicitly model any amps. Maybe the Walrus Audio ACS1 is the thing for me... I just want great clean tones, great tones at the edge of breakup and that it takes pedals perfectly, especially overdrive, distortion and fuzz. I'm not unhappy with the Boss IR-200, so the only reason to change it for something else is because it feels like I'm not getting the most out of it. We'll see what happens...
Absolutely my next amp. Gigging every once in a while, I'm getting tired of lugging a heavy tube amp. And you made it sound good, GG! That was funny when the fan kicked in!
I think the switchable reverb would be nice, but they got it right for me. Most people are very particular about their reverb and probably use their favorite pedals, and there are 1000s of competitors there. Then the onboard reverb is more of an optional item. I plan to add a subtle room reverb (like I would working when in my DAW) with the onboard function and rely on my pedals for all other reverb. The power tube model switching is something I will use frequently. I used to have the Two Notes Torpedo, but I hated having to flip through menus to change the power tube setting!
Great review, BTW! I keeping hoping I'll find a way to slim down my tube amp collection. Hopefully, this pedal amp will help! That was funny when the fan kicked in! hahaha ;)
Oh how I laughed when the fan kicked in. I made an impulse purchase yesterday. This amp pedal is very good. I've got it to use into a cab in a stereo set up with an HT-20RH as the other amp and many pedals before the pre amp and in the loop..
I was thinking about FX Loop. I saw in the software Blackstar has Pre/Post selection for FX Looping. What if they had it as Separate FX Loops instead of as a Switch in the Software indicates? That would be Cool to see you have a Choice of PRE and Post with 2 Separate FX Loops on the Pedal itself. This way, you could add your Delay POST and your Distortion PRE . Make Sense ?
Nice job! Here in Brazil people don’t talk about this Amped1. I got interested in it ‘cause it can work as a power amp feeding a cabinet. For internet content I observed that most guitar players Mic a real cabinet. So it would be nice if you could explore this function on a next video. Thank you anyways!
good pedals but I find a bit of a strange choice to put the XLR and HPhones out on the right side of the pedal as usually those work best at the back or left side? if you stick it on a pedalboard that would make more sense logistically I think
@@Benjohns89 I think the tube is only for the preamp. That was funny when the fan kicked in, haha (although all the other comments were kind of a spoiler 😊) I like the look of this. In my gigging days I used to drag a heavy Marshall combo up and down flights of stairs - I’d have killed for this back then!
That was funny when the fan kicked in. Thanks for this video. I've watched a bunch of other videos on the AMPED 1 (all good) but the segment using over drive in the front with plethora in the effects loop was the exact set up I plan. The goal being an alternative to lugging a 42lb 65 DRRI around. Run it into a 22lb fender bass breaker 1x1 and / or XLR into front of house. It looks like powering the overdrive(s) from the AMPED 1 is fine but probably not enough to reliably power plethora? Looking forward to more videos on experience in live environments.
As expected an awesome video and I do love mine. The preset button allows for clean and dirty switching and the reverb is annoying but the plates just the best Only gripe is the XLR placement as it kills my pedal board OCD as they should have put it on the left!

Thanks for the video Andy. I have owned a blackstar amped 10 for some time now and absolutely love it! I run a boss gt1 into the front and chain that back to my 1x12 cab and that’s all I ever need. Now that I’m wanting to do some recording of me playing the guitar, what options do I have? How do I get the crispy tone as yours in this video? How did you set up the recording? Please advise and thank you so much!
Can you redo the demo putting the Amped 1 into the FX loop of the HX Stomp, so you can run Hx drive before and HX reverb and Delay after, let the amp 1 handle the amp tone
Great video as allways and very educational for me when I buy my first real rig. Im trying to learn guitar late in life. And for sure, it was funny when the fan kicked in. About the fan, I have changed fan in other devotes. You can find a not so loud fan looking at high end computer fans.
I'm an Amped1 owner and I would like to test it with Plethora X3 but in a more advanced way than you did. I would like to use the Plethora Cab Sim, to get a stereo output. I would use the Amped1 FX Loop, sending a MONO signal to the Plethora and using its STEREO output CAB SIM to get a stereo sound (bypassing the Amped 1 (dual)MONO outputs). Is there anybody who tried this configuration or @AndyGuitarGeek did you try it?
I'm guessing you used a mac to do the USB recording, the Windows experience was awful for me on Windows 11 desktop. On my MBP it's great but as there is no dedicated windows driver like there is for Helix etc it was just frustrating, and the results were subpar.I use mine as a daily practice tool on the desktop which works well, I have taken it to rehearsal, and it sounds good through my H&K 2x12. I do have a slight issue using it with my HXFX, but I think that might be an issue with the HXFX. If I use the HXFX in 4CM and use an FX Loop block the amp loses some tone, it goes slightly thin sounding in comparison. If I use the antilog bypass in the HXFX the tone goes back to normal, this only happens if I use an FX Loop block which is why I think it’s an issue with the HXFX not the Amped 1. If you do make more videos on the Amed 1 maybe you could do a test and see if this happens to you? Thanks for the Video, and wasn’t that funny when the fan kicked in 😊
Yes, that was funny when the fan kicked in - hahaha! Or would I have to stick with 20w, assuming that’s an approved option? Keep up the geek work!
It's really impressive how much they managed to pack into a little tiny box like that! Truly make me think that we're in the golden age of gear. Having said that, I think the Two Notes ReVolt has this beat in terms of the tones and the diversity of tones. Very different product class, but I'd rather that than this fwiw.Amazing review though! @@TheGuitarGeek I almost succumbed and pulled the trigger on the ReVolt this holiday season 😅 I think it'd be an interesting thing to have for my practice rig at home which is currently just a few pedals into a 20W tube poweramp and 1x12.
I bought an Amped 1 some days ago, and I'm very satisfied with it. It's not a versatile amp, but for me, this feature is one of its strongest points!! It does not simulate every possible amp on the planet, it is just a very solid, realistic, powerful old-style amp, perfect for clean-crunchy vintage tones. Every knob does not transform the overall tone, but it just subtly adds some different flavors. I agree with you, the Gain is not good after 60/70% and the US amp is too thin to my ears, but I'll try to change the cab and see if there's a chance to improve it. Plug in a Strato, set the neck pickup, set the UK amp and the EL34 valve, Gain to 60%, Master around 50%, bass at 40%, middle at 60%, Treble at 60% and it sounds great!!
The clean US sound sounds a bit thin in all the demos I've watched. Any clue to how it compares to a real Deluxe amp? E.g. by playing through the Fender Deluxe Reverb Amp and then using the Deluxe speaker into the Amped1?
I’ve had two of these Blackstar amps , still have one . I can’t get the effects loop to work . I’m using the Y cable then plugging two separate patch cable into that then into a Maxon delay . Can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong

Is the box quality? Metal. knobs are decent? Blackstar has put out 3rd party crap before.
This one seems
Rock solid
Isn't it a wonderful world we live in, where ever-better technology at ever-more-affordable prices is serving guitarists? It is not my cup of tea, however, that was funny when the fan kicked in .....hihihi.
Isn't this s flagrant copy of Blueguitar Amp 1?
Well that was funny when the fan kicked in.
Cheers for watching Ian!
Who's this guy? Stevo?
That’s right Oscar Wilde?
A bit pricey, I like high gain! thx Andy
BLackstar copied BLuguitar?
Stereo
I hate those noisy fans, why can`t they use silent fans? I would buy it immediately.
Plural/Singular: 100 Watts, 20 Watts, 1 Watt
You must be a lot of fun at parties
AN OPEN LETTER TO BLACKSTAR (and any other company building these types of amps): If you truly want to make this an all-in-one rig, YOU NEED TO INCLUDE A F@#&*!~ING TUNER!!!
I agree completely.
#thatwasfunnywhenthefankickedin
so you tell me you can get the real stuff with this kinder amp. throw the money out off the windows
for me , the best amp is bluguitar amp 1 , not backstar
I had a Bluguitar Amp 1 and loved it. Unfortunately, it kept on failing on me during gigs. Halfway through a set it would stop producing any sound whatsoever. Then once back home it was fine again. I sold it after that happened the second time.
And black star copied bluguitar!!!!! Never buy black star.
I would never buy one of these things.
can you use the HX stomp like you used the plethora in the effects loop? no amp or cab blocks in the HX stomp.
Merci
Awesome
