Danced to that when it came out. It was 1976. Just graduated high school. Disco was coming and we went dancing every single weekend. What great times. You know these were the innocent days, had not heard of AIDS, no date-rape drugs, just long weekends of drinking, partying and dancing until the clubs shut down. Commodores were out. Great times. If you were drunk the cops took you home. These were days we will never get back.
I graduated in 1976 to and at our 30th class reunion this song was played and everyone was taken back and I have a 8track so this song blared out of my car ..fun times..😁
It's 8.45pm in a cold, dark West Yorkshire in the North of England. I just got in from a long, hard day at work and you three just made my day. Loved all your moves and comments. Thank you for cheering me up no end.
12:18 am, Toronto, Canada. It is currently -10 degrees Celsius outside but with windchill feels like -20 and it is going to take a deep dive to -30 in a few hours. We are bracing for an extreme cold front for the next few days. Yes, it sucks and there's nothing anyone can do. I can't sleep and I decided to watch entertaining reaction videos and to all sorts of songs from 70's and 80's. I love these guys. They are so funny 😂😂😂
This song came out in 1976 and boy howdy did I dance my heart out on the dance floor. Great music! I'm 65 and still sing this song whenever I hear it, I can't dance to it (my body won't let me), but I can sure clap my hands to the beat.
Me too! Miss those days at the skating rink with this type of music playing. I'm 55 now so I was about 8 years old when this came out. Great memories indeed.
Growing up in the era when this group released this song, we didn't worry about the color of one's skin it's the music we focus on. The seventies was really a great time.
Sometimes it's not as obvious. I never realized how funky the bass line was in "Walk This Way" (Aerosmith) until I heard it mashed up with "Can't Get Next to You" (Temptations) Video here on UA-cam
Who could’ve imagined so much rhythm coming out of the great town of Steubenville, OH? This song has everyone dancing back in the day! Great memories to go with a great song and great band.✌️😎👍🎸
Yes! Jamal and his brothers getting into the music, music reactions on fire! I had so much fun and joy throughout this that I'm laughing and crying happy tears! The closest I think to the Black Betty reaction way back, marvelous! Thank you all for sharing in your joy of music, you all have that infectious passion for good music and this is such a perfect example!
This is one of the few songs from the Disco era that I will never get tired of. I'm so glad to know that it still makes people want to get up and dance after all of these years.
You guys were great in this video! I loved how you were getting into this great song. Thank you all for your input on this. I was 15 when this came out.
Back in the day most keyboards could only produce one type of sound, so they would have several stacked up to give them versatility. That looks like a Hammond organ, a Fender Rhodes electric piano and a synthesizer stacked up. Today you could have one sampling keyboard that will deliver all of those sounds.
I think that one on the top is a Minimoog. Even today, a lot of keyboardists will have at least a couple of them stacked together in live performances, just so they don't have to try to switch settings in the middle of a song if two different sounds are required. Rick Wakeman is infamous for being surrounded by a dozen different models -- and playing two of them at the same time, one with each hand!
@@ballyastrocade5672 A lot of modern synths can split the keyboard into two sections, each with a different sound, one for the left and and one for the right hand, and the sounds can be preset and changed at the push of a button. Not sure what the top keyboard is, but it isn't a Minimoog. Those have a black vertical panel behind the keyboard with all of the synth controls.
@@gotham61 Agreed. Definitely not a Minimoog, no controls. (although the top/lead keyboard almost always was a minimoog used by probably 99% of artists, during that era..)
1980, I was riding my bike across DC and stopped at a red light. All of a sudden a bunch of 7-8 year old black kids were around me, dancing and singing, "play that funky music white boy..." it was so funny, they were so cute!
I used to see Wild Cherry almost every weekend in thearly 70s in the Weirton-Steubenville area. They were a cover band. I saw them at a pool in Follansbee after this song came out.
Great reaction! I’m old enough to remember when “Play That Funky Music” first came out. It was the mid 70’s, and my friends and I were playing songs on the boombox. Suddenly this song started playing and I was instantly hooked. It was just one of those songs you can listen to over and over again, like “The Humpty Dance!” Life was fun back in the 70’s and 80’s. It was a great time to be alive. ☮️♥️ Again, great reaction..I really enjoyed it!
I remember when this jam came out, I thought it was a hard core funk group of brothers out of philly or jersey, but to my surprise it was some Italian boys out of Ohio, just goes to show never judge a book by it's cover, same goes with the average white band, turns out they we're some blokes out of scotland and I thought the same thing, funk group out of the eastern states, love it, thanks Jamal and brothers for the upload.
Omigosh y'all are crackin me up! You're right Jamal, you cannot sit still to this. Not a big fan of 70s disco type music, but songs like this are pretty dang cool
Jamal, thanks for including us in your Funky Music party! You guys had me smiling and dancing in my chair the entire time! We had such great music then. Thanks for all you do to Keep Great Music Alive!
I'm 58 years old. When I was a kid, riding the school bus, we had an awesome driver! Installed his own stereo & speakers. Back in the day, I used to listen to this on radio station CKLW out of Motown. I would dance across my kitchen with my young son. Can’t help but dance now at 67yrs young when that song starts up.
Love you brothers, you all remind of me and my 3 brothers one of which is in heaven now but you all just helped remember those fantastic moments , thank you my brothers.
The sound of my youth. Had just started college in 1976 and this reminds me of burning up the dance floor with my friends. Great funky tune and fantastic memories!
I think it's just called a jumpsuit. Rik Emmett of Triumph used to wear one too, back in the day. That's another band you should check out if you haven't already. "Magic Power" "Lay It On The Line" are two of my favorites by them.
Oh geez! Memories! I was in 8th grade when this came out and was choreographer for dance/pom pom routines for my Jr high cheerleader squad. I choreographed a routine to this and we performed it on full court, basketball court at half time! Guys, we ROCKED IT! My senior year, I made one up to Rick James song, Love Gun. We brought house down around our biggest rival. They went slack jawed and were in shocked silence. IT WAS AWESOME! Thank yall for your fun reaction. Wish yall could have rocked with us back then! We had a BALL.
This was the song that taught me how to do that stanky dance in my teens. We tore up the teen disco floor to this & Ram Jam's Black Betty. Plus Michael Jackson just came out with "Rock with You." 🤘

Yeah, we’re going to need to see more of the three of you dancing like that! 😂 That was wildly entertaining to watch. And I’m not talking about Wild Cherry. ☮️ 💜
LaRon was doing the "selfie" dance. No offense guys, but I was waiting for the couch to give out. You guys were bouncing around so hard I thought for sure the legs were going to fall off. What a fun reaction. Keep 'em coming.

Wild Cherry played at my sister's senior prom in 1976. Right after they blew up with Play That Funky Music. True story.

That's fabulous!
Loving the brothers throwing out their music knowledge too. Just shows the journey you all have been on.
