Seems like Bernie has always been more physically active and wouldnt doubt he put more effort in maintaining his mental capacity as well. I like Bernie but we would most likely be in a better position if there was age limits.
Bernie Sanders has looked like the age of 62 since he was in his 40s. Which is funny in and of itself, but now he seems WAY younger than his actual age!
@kushclarkkent6669 Yes, and as we found out this year, Biden was kept in the race in order to block a Sanders presidency. Several centrist Dems spilled the tea on that on camera during the summer.

Unless you actually listen to your constituents and step down. No one ever has shown respect towards democracy, patriotism as Biden did. Do you really think orange moron would do that? More over, campaign that Kamala ran was excellent considering the time she had. On the flip side: upcoming clown show stated we will not need to vote any more. Never. So much for your primaries smh
We have primaries every time. But the sitting president is almost always reelected in the primary. In 2020, Trump was primaried... he ignored it, and even in the beginning days of the Covid mess he was reelected handily. Senate and House are primaried regularly (25 house seats ran with only one name on the ballot this year, 12 more with only 3rd parties challenging them). We need to stop normalizing this.
And my understanding is that he/his people did not support Kamala or encourage her to go out and break from him. They didn't help her at all. They just wanted to protect his "legacy."
All of his people were a mix of his and Obama's staffers from his VP term, and Clinton's DNC sycophants, so it's not remotely surprising in the least. That's also why you see idiots like the PodSaveAmerica bros completely missing the moment on the CEO shooting. Favreau unsurprisingly in part because apparently he helped found a private insurance consulting firm. That's the kind of people being the face of "opposing" rightwingers. It's no wonder we're stuck with this. Preachy rich idiots who got theirs and say they want to share when that's clearly the last thing they want. 🙄
Anyone else remember back in 2019-2020 when bringing up Biden,s age and dinminished capacity meant that you were ageist and trying to help Trump win? Ah, good times.
Old people always do this. Then they have things like age minimums because I guess someone who is 80 is more capable of the Presidency than someone who might have a teenage child at 34. That's not ageism, eh?
Conveniently, when Bernie had his heart procedure it was no longer ageist to bring up his physical capacity. Then it became ageist again when talking about Biden afterwards.
Yep, and before that remember the abuse term ‘Bernie bro’? Which ofc was a person who was in favor of the democratic election of a leader and against the establishment coup to place Hilary in the leadership position. Democrats are their own worst enemy.

@MrLifter20 so amusing how u totally ignored the Bernie part of the comment. Just like all of the dnc your failure to acknowledge the popularity and ability of Bernie is how we got trump. But I'm sure you'll say something about Palestine next rather than acknowledge that the dnc keeps losing

I can't count the times that I have been called maga for criticizing the Democratic party from the left, particularly about Gaza. It seems like the run of the mill Democrats literally cannot even fathom the concept of themselves being criticized in good faith. There will be a little back and forth, I'll make my arguments and points, and without fail they will eventually tell me that I'm a trumpist or a maga in disguise. It's actually made me dislike them almost as much as the actual maga people.
It's always been projection by the Boomers. Boomers are THE MOST entitled generation ever. They got their big, fat, huge bag then they did EVERYTHING they could legislatively to ensure that it would get even bigger & fatter knowing that meant making the generations after them would suffer & have less. Boomers got theirs then not only did they pull the ladded up behind themselves, they burned every program that helped them to the ground so it wouldn't help anyone else EXCEPT them. Boomers are entitled & INCREDIBLY selfish with a superiority complex. They lack empathy for everyone & will destroy ANYTHING that threatens their power & influence. Look at congress if you don't believe me. It's ruled by soulless Boomers.
The boomers were the most entitled generation ever. Their whining about entitlement was pure projection. George Carlin's rant about the boomers was spot on (for the record Biden isn't even a boomer because he's too old to qualify, he was silent generation)

Which is why when Trump was taken back out of the dumpster and polished, that he WOULD be put back into the position. If they were through with Trump, he'd have either been deceased or in a nursing home.
@jarrodwilliams8033 It utterly mystifies me how the hell anybody could listen to the "Corn Pop was a bad dude" story and NOT see that Biden was a few bats short of a belfry.
Black people have said for years that the Democratic Party only deals with them when it's time to vote while doing nothing in return. This is EXACTLY what we were talking about.
Getting all mad at Biden now is sort of pointless. Yes, we all wanted Trump to be defeated but we need to question the reliance on the Democrats and voting in general in the fight. We need to discuss strategy and how it relates to the building of a mass movement that can stop the fascists and put ourselves on a better course.

@Olly_2024_ 😊 Apologies. Did you see how the French people responded a couple of years ago when the government tried to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64?
In 2015 some of us were yelling that where it counts, the Democrats operate the same as the Republicans, and we were laughed at. In 2019 some of us were yelling that Biden is basically a politician version of Trump, and we were laughed at. Now look where we are. Yet now none of us are laughing.
The decline of the American voter is just as frustrating. Our social contract is broken. They can't think, work, drive like they used to. All the pharmaceuticals, processed food, illegal drugs, too much booze, screen time/GPT/SOCIAL media. Those effects are reflected in their election choices. Old, out of touch, and out of their element candidates who can't speak well or walk well. They lack the ability to critical think, do research, recognize deception. I don't love Harris, but if you're hiding her because it makes him look too old, then it was just his stunning hubris that had him running for president again. Idk what was telling him he had to stay president, but something was and it is deeply upsetting. His behavior lately, refusing to engage with party leaders because he felt snubbed by them is so gross.
Neither of those options make any sense if you don't remove the incentive for corruption. Ban individual stock trading by the politician, and their immediate family. Enforce a code of ethics with criminal penalties. Ban PACs, all corporate donations, and individual donations over say $1000. Require that all states have a non partisan electoral commission (not bipartisan, as some of those are almost as bad). Eliminate the electoral college. Use ranked choice voting. These are pretty common in European countries, and we don't have many of the issues you have.

Does anyone remember what the state of the country was like the day Biden was inaugurated? If you suffer from the convenient amnesia that makes you misremember the Trump years, fear not. He’s back for four more. And he’s even older.
I'm personally convinced he won't live that long. One way or the other, Vance is more useful to the Powers That Be now that Trump has paved the way in. Trump has another year at most before he's completely useless to anybody.
What Binder said at the end of this clip. I'm an old and a progressive/liberal and I'm of the mind that anything is better than Trump and the Republicans right now. I will fully admit that I have not gotten into the weeds with some of the issues that the Biden administration had though I know they had enough worthy of criticism. I'm just tired of disproportionate criticisms being leveled at the Democrats and the left in general when Republicans and conservatives seem to skate along.
"disproportionate criticisms being leveled at the Democrats and the left in general..." This wording seems to imply that criticism of the Democrats is one of form of criticism of the left. The Democratic Party elite is composed of center-right liberals. They're not on or of the left. At all.
Perfectly put. And I'm not saying we play the same republican game of ha ha mediocrity, but that anything we come up with is automatically better than them. We just have to keep giving our team the ball (and not fall for the "criticism" of being "tribal", they are and get to run away with their unity and gain too much power), and both stop this pendulum swing of handing our very lives over to maniacs occasionally, and accumulate power/effort/care to make the party what we want. They are traitorous, and we should be winning every election, no doubt. But we have turned into a multi-faction, apathetic blob of ponderers who leave too much to chance for the sake of "principles". And the other side is not doing that. They're not wasting time defeating themselves. We've let the pursuit of perfection be the enemy of good, and I don't care how "smart" we claim to be, that's asinine.
Well, the problem with that is the election thing. If this is as normalized as it seems, then every 1-2 terms, you will hand the country back to the MAGA (I have stopped calling them Republicans because they are not the GOP from before). It does not matter that to 30% of the country ANYTHING is better than Trump, because you cannot win that way. It takes convincing THE REST of them to vote for you. The DNC has lost the majority vote share in Hispanics. They have lost margin with Arabic, Jewish, African American, and low income voters for 3 successive presidential elections. It is not a case of "we just think MAGA bad" is enough. If things do not change, you will be suffering (as Shoe0nHead put it) "100 years of Republican rule". That is why this is important.
Didn't Sam also downplay videos of Biden's cognitive decline? Everyone who covered for Biden deserves some of this responsibility. It was pretty clear Joe wasn't the same anymore
Plenty of the left online media folks who were invited to the White House still do criticize Biden / the left in general. Let’s not paint with such a broad brush plz
I think something has to be kept in mind here: There were many alternatives in the 2020 primary. People could have chosen Kamala, Pete, Elizabeth Warren and numerous other choices. But the majority said, "No, no, we can't risk having a woman, a gay man etc. at the top of the ticket." Knowing what we know now, maybe that would have indeed been a losing strategy. But there were numerous choices for younger candidates. I picked Elizabeth Warren. The majority didn't want that.
@sthubbar I'm not sure I understand your analogy but George Clooney did co-host a fundraiser with several other celebrities as well as Democratic backers as far back as at least two decades ago, but Clooney was the one who came out "in public" after that event. Assuming you and I are both making comments based on that event, I really don't understand your analogy. If you're trying to say that everyone knew that Biden was over the hill already, well yeah I mean, that's what this current podcast is all about. So really there's no stretch here or anything that you need to "a break" for... Yes we all knew that Biden was not lucid before that fundraising event.
@sthubbar simple answer because saying something in public IS the catalyst. "we all knew". No, we didn't. Maybe you and I knew and many followers of this fine podcast. But "we all knew", yeah, I guess that's the stretch you were talking about.

I'll always make a distinction about how Kamala ran her campaign. I always say she ran as good a campaign as could be expected. To say it was perfect is idiotic. It contained many, many mistakes (e.g., embracing Liz Cheney, not distinguishing herself as separate from Biden, talking about owning a gun and about the 'lethal' US military, hiding Tim Walz). However, in the space of a one to two year campaign cycle, some of these mistakes could have been fixed or forgotten in the 24 hour media cycle. It's also a sign that with limited time, decisions needed to be made quickly because there was no time to actually plan things out. For that, she can thank Joseph Robinette Biden. He basically kneecapped her ability to run a considered campaign. Let's not pretend she would have recreated the New Deal or the British post war consensus. Even with a two year window of opportunity, she very may well have run a bleh, neo liberal primary (and then presidential) campaign. However, had Biden said as soon as the 2022 midterms were finished that he wasn't running for a second term and that he was endorsing Kamala in a primary that was yet to come, she would have either have been a more seasoned candidate with a more tangible strategy or we would have gotten that with someone else at the top of the ticket. The problem with liberalism, and US liberals, is that they see things through a solipsist world view. They don't have the black and white world view of their nihilistic and misanthropic conservative opposition. Their guiding belief is that in a fair world, you can be anything you want to be if you work hard enough. At the end of the day, it's about being 'rewarded' and about what's in it for you, not creating a better world for your fellow human beings, Biden hanging on as long as he did reflects that BS attitude. That and a generation of robots who watched too many episodes of the West Wing and believe actual human beings talk like that.

I'm from the Bay Area and have watched Kamala for a couple decades. She's a quintessential establishment politician and that would have become more clear, not less, with time. I think she was actually well-served by the quick pace of her campaign. It served to conceal her weaknesses, chief among them her fundamental vacuity.
@@billyconnelly3568 The quick nature of the swap to Kamala would in most scenarios be what we would call here in Australian politics 'saving the furniture'. By the time Biden had stepped down, it was more a case of trying to salvage what had been lost (though it remains to be seen if there is anything left to save in an electoral sense). Even if Kamala hadn't been elevated to the top of the ticket, whoever would have been elevated would have encountered exactly the same problems she did and would have been doomed.

I would generally agree; that said she suffered the most narrow margin of defeat in modern history. 229K votes across WI MI and PA were all that separated her from being Madam President. So, in terms of raw votes she was actually very close; in more conceptual points of view....you're probably correct. She never had a chance of WINNING. I think it goes both ways. I don't think either angle of looking at it is more correct or incorrect than the other. Be lets be real: no 1 term incumbent VP has ever won reelection election as president. Ever. Let alone an incumbent VP who is basically forced (perhaps against her own will and desire) to being the nominee, with 3 months before the election. Also, no one really knew who kamala harris was before July 22, 2024. I'm a huge supporter of hers now, but even I didn't really know anything about her or who she was prior to her being at the top of the ticket. It's unfortunate timing...but honestly...as the saying goes...what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I truly believe (I know not everyone does, but I do) that she WILL be back again, in 2028. She got her feet wet, and she got her first opportunity to really be in the national spotlight, btw she DID raise $1.5B in just under 3 months. She was put in an impossible situation and she, from a vote count perspective, came very close. I belong that in 2028, when she's not the incumbent, and when Trump has really F's stuff up, she'll be much more popular and a better choice. I think that no matter who the Dems ran in 2024 they were always gonna lose. It was a horrible environment for the incumbent. Kamala will be back. I could see her and Walz getting back together in 2027, gearing up for a run...

I am 100% certain this is just the start of a flood of information about how diminished we was and how those around him protected him. And that does include the press. Biden completely squandered his legacy due to his hubris and, most likely, his diminished capacity. What I do object to is the constant "His age, his age, his age" drumbeat. It was (is) not his age, it was (is) his diminished capacity. There are plenty of people older than him who still have a great amount of their mental capacity intact. He should have been sitting in Delaware surrounded by his family and not trying for the Presidency in 2020 for the 3rd time to satisfy his ego.
Oh gawd gimme a break. They didn't tell us when Reagan was losing it either. Do you really expect people who have sworn to serve POTUS and the country are going to go public? I don't.
And Trump people won't tell us that Trump is losing it. No party is ever going to broadcast to the world "our candidate is declining". Ever. Doesn't work like that. I also think this article is bullshit. I don't agree that biden was "declining" in 2019. That's bullshit. He started declining in 2023. And I do think it's been a sharp decline (I also don't think he was ever a particularly great public speaker). They too are turning a blind eye to a President who is quite obviously suffering the effects of mental decline. It’s worth bearing in mind that Trump’s father suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
I think the tact should be to criticize his apparent inability to convey the mental capacity to be president rather than just harp on age. It's clear there are people of all ages who lack the intelligence to competently represent their office. I don't argue that olds are more likely to be incompetent, but age shouldn't be stressed because it isn't directly relevant unless you want to put a ceiling on voting age and office eligibility on the argument that they have no interest in the future because they'll be dead soon. Im 62, BTW. If you're within four years of the average life expectancy you can't vote or hold office.
If this doesn't wake up the people in our country think that there should be age limits and revisions to presidential candidacy such as cognitive and mental tests. I will fully admit that I have not gotten into the weeds with some of the issues that the Biden administration had though I know they had enough worthy of criticism. I'm just tired of disproportionate criticisms being leveled at the Democrats and the left in general when Republicans and conservatives seem to skate along.
"disproportionate criticisms being leveled at the Democrats and the left in general..."
This wording seems to imply that criticism of the Democrats is one of form of criticism of the left.

Emma ate everything on the plate.

@@billyconnelly3568 The quick nature of the swap to Kamala would in most scenarios be what we would call here in Australian politics 'saving the furniture'. Even if Kamala hadn't been elevated to the top of the ticket, whoever would have been elevated would have encountered exactly the same problems she did and would have been doomed.

My mother tried to volunteer at a local soup kitchen. They turned her down because she is over 80. Told her hey, at least you could be president or a congressman
Fairly new to this channel, but I have never seen Emma so fired up and incensed!
To be honest, even before reading this article, I was furious with Biden.
To be honest, the order of primaries should be rotated. It should not always be New Hampshire and Iwoa.
Oh gawd gimme a break. They didn't tell us when Reagan was losing it either. Do you really expect people who have sworn to serve POTUS and the country are going to go public? I don't.
I do. People had a right to be furious when it was Reagan, too.
But in terms of his ability to he president....his record as president speaks for itself.
When it happened with Reagan, it meant his wife oversaw the AIDS epidemic. Which was essentially a legally allowed to happen jennyside of GSRM folk.
Which is why my generation grew up without "Elder Gays." Like the younger people of Gen Z and Alpha have in us, now that we are older.
It was horrific, and they did it at the behest of the Californian palm reader his wife called on insecure lines. She was the actual president.
Or any health condition.
@@chpgmr1372 They used to just admit it, or it was visible. FDR's polio damage, JFK's Addison's Disease... Problem is that it doesn't always mean someone can't be effective, while it _does_ always damage confidence. FDR stood up to robber barons as someone who had trouble literally standing up. JFK manned a PT boat in the war and managed the Cuban Missile Crisis with a condition that makes your own adrenaline potentially lethal to you. It really depends on what it is, and the fact that unless it was really common at the time (Polio was, Addison's never has been), people will have doubts. The general public will always be uninformed and feelings-based no matter how much access to information they have.
So when all the conservatives yell "Biden did so-and-so and thats why America sucks now!!" , we can say "no he literally did not".
Fact-check -- FDR didn't develop paralytic symptoms until 1921, when he was FULLY THIRTY-NINE YEARS OF AGE. (You spoke today about his having contracted polio as a child.) Also, there's serious debate now as to whether he had polio or "Guillain-Barre" syndrome. (Guillain-Barre research was not highly developed when he became ill.)
There’s also post polio syndrome that developed in adults who survived childhood polio.
This is why I switched affiliation to independent. I’m not being heard anywhere.
Harris spoke outta both sides of her ass on Israel... and you think she had a chance of winning?!
Wow, okay...
I was sickened on her double standards when it came to Israel, especially when her staff banned the Palestinian democrat spokesman from speaking at her convention. Even when the female Palestinian speaker allowed her speech to be vetted and certain things taken out. She was still not allowed to speak, but the pro Israeli speakers were allowed to spew all the lies about what happened on Oct 7th. Even Jewish protesters who were pro Palestine were booed and their banners violently ripped from their hands. The Jewish rabbi was disgusted in the way he was treated, he was with Jews for Peace, he was interviewed not on MSM media of course but an independent journalist. He said he wasn’t going to vote for Kamala because she was wrong on Gaza.

Boomer mentality? As a boomer I don’t agree at all.
Trump has cognitive decline but do not see it being reported like Biden. I would still prefer Biden over Trump anyday. There are things I did not agree with during his presidency but he did more things for this country than Trump would ever consider doing
Stop it you lost get over it . They lied and covered it up and you lap it up u get what u deserve
Biden surrounded himself with competent people is the difference between them.
Dude he oversaw and is still overseeing an unmitigated genocide; American soft power is fucking over, we are fucking open Nazis to anyone clearsighted in the world - that’s all Biden

Jim Clyburn is also to blame for having Biden over Bernie.

Good show. Good article. It's the truth. Now is the time to talk about what happened.
As if Trump is a spring chicken and he wants ONLY "yes" men around him.
He's surrounded by a cult, though. He means nothing to them. It's what he represents.

Emma is spot on.
Remember when like 4 years ago Republicans were sounding the alarm 🚨🚨. Oh well
They too are turning a blind eye to a President who is quite obviously suffering the effects of mental decline. It’s worth bearing in mind that Trump’s father suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.
@@CountryFriedPodcast While ignoring their own massive problem? Yeah. Kinda hard to heed the warnings of blatantly bad faith hypocrites. 🤷♂️
@Knight-Bishop that's just goofy
@@CountryFriedPodcast I mean so is Trump, but it doesn't actually change the fact that he exists, does it?
@Knight-Bishop you prove my point. Even when reality is in your face you say goofy things that aren't true. I feel sorry for you.
Trump is showing aphasia, dragging his leg, and speaking/ looking ill. I wish people would give him the Biden treatment!!
If this doesn't wake up the people in our country think that there should be age limits and revisions to presidential candidacy such as cognitive and mental tests. I don't know what will, and yes I am against people over the age of 60 running for office who will not be able to feel the consequences of their actions after 20 years. And yes we should also remove type b cluster personalities, aka people with narcissism and sociopathy/ psychopathy aka the dark trinity, as well from ANY office.
There is zero reason anyone over the age of 60 should be in any of these positions. 100s of millions or citizens to pick from and all they could find is the same people who have been in politics for decades?
Lots of anger to go around but I place almost all blame on Jill. How dare she allow this.
I think Biden is mostly fine but has mentally cloudy periods of time throughout the day that have been growing more frequent.
You couldn't be more wrong. He's toast.
@nakfoor1846 he has *DEMENTIA*
pretty common gor 80 year olds
@@J_Train906 Of course he does!!! The exact diagnosis is irrelevant. He stayed in WAY TOO LONG!
@@J_Train906
Biden has NO signs of dementia. Look up the diagnosis and signs & symptoms. Trump on the other hand has signs of dementia plus his mental health issues.
Well Biden did do some good things and when Biden started to decline he should have someone else run for president that should have happened in December 2024.
OK, but why is only Biden getting scrutiny for his decline and Trump not getting the same scrutiny for his decline, which is just as bad, if not worse than Biden's?
Because he hides it behind charisma and bluster while Biden comes across as belonging in assisted living
Because that’s just not a true statement. Trump is definitely starting to show his age, but to claim that he’s just as bad or worse than Biden just says you aren’t honestly paying attention.
@@ryanhubbard1885 I am paying attention, though. There is something neurologically wrong with Donald Trump's mind too. The fact that people pretend that Donald Trump is well-adjusted is wrong.
Trump’s base doesn’t care. That doesn’t make it inappropriate for the base the democrats are *supposedly* representing to demand accountability and effectiveness. The democrats absolute corruption and disinterest in fighting for policy that would help the working class and protect the rights of minorities, as well as just improve infrastructure, stability, and the economy at large- since basically the clinton era, is what has allowed republicans to become this toxic and why there are so many disaffected people who are happy to see trump burn it all down.
@@ryanhubbard1885 What's not true is defending Trump against accurate criticism against him.
It's no surprise the reports go back to 2019. You could see it during the primaries for the 2020 election.
The approach towards the Israeli/Palestine conflict is of no importance because the Israelies will only stop until the last Palastinian from the Gaza Strip swims toward Tunesia and the last Palastinian from the west bank swims across the Jordan River to Jordan. Search on the Belfour Declaration and be educated.
Their maps suggest they don't plan on stopping at jordan.
@@mrbork7218 maybe the Israeli's have to stop because the International Court in The Hague has ventilated the opinion that the Israeli reaction to the attack from the Gaza strip is somewhat overdone.
