    Avid’s XR Spod/Marker reel isn’t just a hardy workhorse - it also delivers one of the fastest retrieves ever. It's almost without parallel when it comes to the speed of its retrieve. With a beefy 5.7-to-one gear ratio, this reel can haul in 1.38m of line with every turn of the handle. Not many reels can match that, and this capability will seriously reduce armache if you’re a regular spodder. But does it really make that much difference? To find out, Joe Wooltorton came up with a test...

    I had this spod reel and got rid of it because the rotor was grinding on the line safety guard making retrieval noisy and feeling heavy, and the line clip damaged my line. Seeing you using it effortlessly makes me feel like I had a faulty one and I should have exchanged it with the store. Then got an Okuma Big Bomber which had problems with the bail arm closing on the cast which was flat out dangerous. I ended up getting a classic Daiwa Emblem spod reel and I haven't looked back. 100% worth getting a dedicated spod reel, and a quality one at that. It's getting a lot more use and abuse than your fishing reels.

      Can’t beat the emblem spod, had mine probably 7 years and is an absolute work horse

    Get what you pay for, bought a Sonik x r/s spod reel. Total junk and grinds on the retrieval. Going out today to get a Daiwa Emblem.

    I'm so jealous of all the carp gear you guys get, it's so sleek and sexy. Would love to have some reels like that here in Cape Town, awesome video guys. Keep it up and keep us drewling

    Going of the side by side and watching both set ups i would say that the xr spod reel caused the spod to dig in more.

    With the quality of tackle out there now, there really isn't any need to spend over £100 on a rod or reel to get tackle which wont let you down and looks the part.

      Totally disagree, buying on a budget is exactly that, nobody gives nothing for nothing. The market is flooded with Junk.

      You really do get what you pay for,buy cheap buy twice,but saying that if you don't have the budget or bank time there's no point in buying high end.

    Am I missing something. I don't see the point in seeing if the spod reel cast further than the normal reel.

    Once your spomb is empty and sat on the surface, reel in with the tip under the water. I guarantee it's so much easier as the spomb won't skip under the surface

    Looks good but would prefer a metal spool compared to graphite

    What braking strain is the braid ?

      @Markusgebvor Рік тому

      No need to really focus on the braid. Just need a robust leader. My braid is around 20 lbs, never let me down over 5 years.

    Yes, it does, but you need to buy a good one. Don't cheap out!

    dont think saving 2 mins is worth buying a new reel
