      Supplemental collagen yes. Let body naturally incorporate it into tissues needing collagen. mRNA with LNP delivery to potentially brain, eyes, heart etc & deposition where not needed - no way. Another money spinner with severe adverse effects from BigPharma it would seem.
      Bill Gates praises mRNA technology for dramatically reducing costs. Therefore expands profit margin. He ignores safety.

    Sure, society practically demands proactive vanity, but I can't help but think that younger looking skin will probably also be younger acting skin--and it would shock me if there weren't lots of unknown pathways and interactions affecting health. Looking good is probably a path to feeling good.

    Since elasticity is what appears to be lost I'm surprised at all the focus given to collagen rather than elastin, especially given that the face will deform differently even with collagen added
    ...but then again a restylane injection can absolutely fill in wrinkles for a year or so and definitely makes one look younger...

    It would be interesting to see studies of natural and easily accessible (cheap!) sources of animal gelatin. I tried powdered formulations for over a year with little apparent effect, but after about 3+ months of using natural sources (homemade), my nails are growing stronger (thicker and less splitting/tearing) and faster.

      Drinking lots of water also improves the skin. It does seem to be the build up of glucosepane as we age that causes a loss of elasticity in the skin.

    Thanks! Would be good to know what kinds of dietary components might inhibit breakdown of collagen and loss of hyaluronic acid. Recall that EGCG (in tea) for example might inhibit to some degree MMPs which cause breakdown in collagen, and rosemary might inhibit hyaluronidase which breaks down hyaluronic acid. In what concentrations and which collagen types are affected I have no idea, but I consume both.

    There is one thing : It is not a destruction of collagen as we age rather the type of collagen changing from type1 to type III under the influence of TGF beta as a result of SASP of senescent cells. Type III collagen does not hold water as good as type 1 collagen hence the aged and wrinkled skin.

    This is rather suprising study, given that I've thought that protein cross-linking is one of the key drivers driving skin aging, which is why treatments like laser skin resurfacing work, as the crosslinks are wiped out and new, functional collagen is formed to replace them as the skin heals.

  • @creightonfreeman8059
    @creightonfreeman8059 Рік тому

    Yes. Review collagen powders. Given the fact that proteins are large molecules that can not be absorbed by the gut without first being broken down (digested) into their constituent amino acids, taking collagen directly seems stupid to me, or at least inefficient. Taking an essential amino acid supplement should be just as good or better, since they can be absorbed directly and synthesized to collagen (or any other needed protein) as long as they are present in sufficient abundances. Theoretically, collagen supplements should only help in EAA deficient subjects.

    Collagen hydrosylates are interesting & not just for skin aging. There's an orally bioavailable octapeptide from chicken collagen hydrolysate that can improve endothelial function, prolyl hydroxyproline can improve mood, etc.

    Presbyopia is a common age related condition, collagen maybe consider as culprit due to over disposition on ciliary muscles causing loss elasticity and visual accommodation, wouldn't be reasonable to design a gene therapy to express collagenase enzyme to target that excess collagen without harming other eye components
