- Menzies Research Centre Youth Policy Director Freya Leach has discussed whether or not micro cities can fix the ongoing housing crisis in Australia.
Ms Leach’s remarks come as the first draft proposals under Premier Chris Minns' 'accelerated precincts' in Sydney's north & northwest have been revealed, with hope to build up to 30,000 new homes in Kellyville, Bella Vista, Macquarie Park & Hornsby.
The plans would also create up to 10,000 jobs.
“Will this be enough I’m not so sure. We’ve had about 1.2 million new migrants come to the country since the election, and we’ve built about 380,000 houses. The math ain't mathing,” Ms Leach told Sky News host James Morrow.
“So I’m not sure if these micro cities are going to change that.”

Break up monopolies. We have too many monopolies and they are only in major cities. If we had a less corrupt economies startups could thrive in small cities and we wouldn’t be forced to live in coffin apartments in overcrowded cities

Australia is a first world country with a third world economy in that we only export minerals, animals and education. We are no longer a country of innovation and spend a tiny amount on research and development. This is what Australian society has collectively voted for over the decades. In my opinion, what we need is high speed rail to open up much more of Australia as spokes coming out of major Australian cities and sell the discounted lots firstly to people who do not have a home.
How about limit one property per person. No investment properties allowed. Get rid of negative gearing. There will be alot less people at auctions.

Many countries have tried building new cities from scratch (Brazil, South Korea etc...)...it doesn't always work.
You can't expect companies and investors to go regional...they go to the cities where there are lots of people...not to where there will be people hopefully.
