You know I hear "he has been playing since Tag 1" and I think to myself "oh that wasn't that long ago" and then remember that was 20 fucking years ago.
Dude, you're probably the best tekken commentator I've seen. Love the detailed analysis and walking us through your thought process during your matches. Much appreciated!
I agree that Kazuya is a good character in a vacuum, plenty to work with and be afraid of, especially when he's in rage. The vortex means he'll always be playable especially online. I think in the context of Tekken 7 season 4 he's not great, though. The nerf to fujin uraken when soooo many other people got buffed that patch and so many dlc got left untouched at the top doesn't leave him in a great spot compared to others. If you ask me that nerf he got was unnecessary. Weak pokes, no real hopkick, very little evasion, few plus frame options, super risky strings, and a lot of execution make him a not so great pick. Nothing you haven't heard before I'm sure. The legacy players are nutty on him but they'd be nutty on anybody. That's just me though, loved your breakdown here and I like the way you described his electric as a steve b1 that counters movement. As a Steve/Mishima player this is some good food for thought. Keep up the great content, Phi!
Your latest batch of videos has been great. To give you feedback on what I would like to see: strategic-level explanation of what to expect in a matchup, like you do in the beginning of this video, more often. Generally people teach you what a character wants to do and more or less which moves are strong to throw out; but rarely what to do when facing that character, and virtually never how you would want to change and adapt your "favourite" gameplan when facing X character.
@@PhiDX Yeah that makes sense and is perfectly legitimate. You would not be able to concoct a good plan otherwise, right? No need to go beyond what you can discuss with confidence. I appreciate seeing the thought process occurring since before the match starts, at a macro level that is usually not discussed by anybody. I suspect I may not be alone in thinking that, among your viewers
Man these videos are really helpful for intermediate players who want advance and understand high level gameplay. You're really breaking down every second of the match. Keep it up man
This is actually just a great way of breaking down any matchup. Tekken gets complicated so it can help to break things down like this. Keep-out, defence, offence reminds me of the post someone made for 2D fighters (think it was a Japanese guilty gear player?), where they break it down into, 1: pre-emptive attack, 2: rush down, 3: passive/waiting.
Quickly becoming one of my favorite FG youtube / twitch channels, super smart analysis told in really easy to understand ways. I didn't even really follow Tekken until after 8 was announced and I've learned so much just from watching your stuff. Super cool stuff dude please keep it up.
You are now without a doubt my favourite Tekken content creator. So many of them which I liked have stopped with Tekken until 8 comes out but you keep on going. I love that. I remember finding your video about kbd and it's by far the best one out there. I can't wait to see your T8 content.
One of the primary reasons I love your channel is for years I was studying Tekken full from Tekken players that are good at Tekken but can't teach Tekken. You are an inspiring because you don't understand your inpact. You are creating an environment regardless of skill that people can understand.
really tryna put in the effort to learn Tekken recently and these kinds of analysis videos are extremely helpful, keep doing your thing cant wait to see more of you in tekken 8 and onwards
I gotta say, as a complete casual with probably 1,5k hrs since T6 and never did a bound until T7. These videos help me bring more motivation to learn and actually get into practice mode.
Man, I gotta tell you, I hate almost everything about Tekken 8 so far. I'm trying hard to like it, but I'm not finding anything. I've lost faith completely in the skill, interests, and philosophy of the devs. But your particular angle on things is a glimmer hope. It's a little easier to stay positive.
As someone who doesn't own DLC, I just one and done them. Even if I stick around to learn them, I only encounter them again after I forgot most of the matchup. Plus they don't stick around either if they win most of the times.
Every video I watch from you motivates me to be more and more aware, to pay attention during matches. Thank you for all the work you put into these videos. I'm also glad that you are hyped for Tekken 8. As an intermediate casual player, T8 looks scary fast and 50/50 centric- it is reassuring to hear you are looking forward to the mechanics despite the differing design. Ps I know playing as Kaz bores you but it's cool that you can make such an entertaining video from a match against him. It is appreciated. Gonna go look up some NeNe matches to see his 'making dashes feel impossible against his electrics' in action.
I am a baby DraguNoob and you've perfectly summarised why the DLC characters feel so much more... Choking to play against. Really appreciate the deep dive content and condensing down the most important options to look out for. Much love from the UK Phi :D

Yeah, DLC/Modern Tekken character tools are questionably strong. I'd love to watch Murray play some matches so I can get more insight on why the direction of the game is chopping away at the effort being necessary to be a decent player.
PhiDX, not only you are a beast player, but your commentary is very insightful. I commend you. As a legacy Jin specialist, in my short 1y 6m experience with T7, you recently made me realize how precious and powerful Noctis is as a Tekken character. Sadly, guess it's just too little too late for me to dive deeply into it: I took too long to give Final Fantasy Bro a chance. He is T7 Jin but insanely better than T7 Jin in *every single aspect* EXCEPT CH f4 and Jin infinite reactive potential. Keep doing your thing and I hope to see more from you in T8.
