Did I really just read "ouch" about skiba's vocals! Sure he's making the speakers blow because his vocals are that loud, and great, proud and true. You will never hear this much passion and pain anymore since Matt blew out his vocals by screaming his ass off. He's had throat surgeries because of it, and that is the true sound that made Alkaline Trio who they are today. And they are STILL awesome, and instead of screaming, he sings them instead and it STILL sounds good. If he kept screaming, Alkaline Trio would be no more. How dare you say "Ouch" This is history in the making!
@@Pendoble yeah but i love them. they just didn't sound all that great then and the guitar tone may have been good but we'll never kno bc it was recorded long ago and then transferred to digital and just sounds bad. : )
Fuck yea...I love watching all the old shows that have surfaced over the years on youtube. This one is a true classic. Matt having trouble tuning his LP is priceless...In those days a nice tuner costed big money...
@Jake Sharp I was into Chicago ska and loved slapstick. Then Dan joined Tuesday and I loved their music. I kept following him band to band. I saw alkaline trio back in to day at almost every Chicago show, I kinda knew they would grow, but I was selfish and didn't want them to. Going to show's is quite different now....
Matt had guitar tuning problems with those two Les Pauls for about 10 straight years... You can see him constantly tuning his guitar in concerts from 2000, and in 2006 (just before he started to use the Goldtop les paul as opposed to the Black Custom and '78 Silverburst) he had to change guitars pretty much every other song.
Yes I recorded it, I traded some footage in college and it looks like that person used a lot if my videos. I might have been 98. I have a bunch more if other shows I went to. In time I will try to get it all up online.
Yeah, I would of loved to have seen them in the days when they would play small venues, wearing jeans and baseball caps, but I'm 16 do I didn't every get the chance
Around this time they were supposed to play an all ages Sunday show at a bar in East Lansing MI The bar canceled the day before. They hadn't sold any tickets. AK3 still had to spend the day/night In our shitty town. The opening band was just a bunch of high school kids and one of them offered to put the show on in their mom's basement. When the Trio realized that they wouldn't be playing the bar and wouldn't be getting paid Dan went out and bought a keg figuring they could make gas money by selling cups at the house show Matt got really fucked up off the keg and probably some dirty smack but Goddamint they rocked the fuck out of Tom's mom's basement that Sunday night.
Why did Dan loose his spirit of playing live like this? Nowadays he's more like a cardboard person. Matt too.. I'm not able to play such awesome music with so much power with as little emotion as they do now.

This video is what got me into Alkaline Trio back in August 2012.
11:22 is one of my favorite parts of any song that has two vocalists in it

Filmed at a church? Don't think I could imagine Trio playing churches anymore!

This is great. Such a contrast from a young unknown band to being completely professional.

I have to ask, what were peoples impressions of them around this time?
