- Mendoza is the capital of the province of Mendoza in Argentina. It is located in the northern-central part of the province, in a region of foothills and high plains, on the eastern side of the Andes. Mendoza had a population of 115,041 with a metropolitan population of 1,055,679, making Greater Mendoza the fourth largest census metropolitan area in the country.

NO se ve tan mal comparado con otros paises del area pero tampoco asi , se ve deterioro en las calles y suciedad, no tanto como en peru por ejemplo.

hermosa ciudad, tranquila casi parece un pueblo,,, muy linda
Es bellísima, pero no han mostrado nada de la vida cotidiana y del ruido del centro de la ciudad.
Tiene aire de pueblo pero es una ciudad de más de 1 millón de personas. Se ve así porque el sistema de acequias modifica el paisaje y logra que toda la ciudad esté arbolada. Tiene una diferencia radical con el resto de ciudades grandes ya que hay un equilibrio muy grande entre lo rural y lo urbano.

I was in Mendoza in `98. We spent a few days on our way to the Andes. Small hotel on the Plaza Indepencia. At that time the movie 7 Years in Tibet was being filmed and for some reason Mendoza was being used as a location and so you had these tall imposing Tibetan monks promenading around the Plaza on what must have been their day/s off resplendent in their scarlet robes and finery looking completely out of place and loving every minute of it. So we were`nt the only foreigners in town !

Pro tips for driving in Mendoza:
1) Know how to drive stick or have a friend in your travel crew that can :)
2) When you get to an intersection with no lights or stop signs... well, there's a system to figure out who has the right of way. Look it up. Watch videos. You will impress your friends while you secretly fear for your life.
3) Say hello to all of my beautiful cousins and relatives and have a wonderful time in a magical city!!

Mendoza es una pequeña ciudad q todavía y gracias a Dios conserva cosas de pueblo, es una cdad de provincia, pero no cualquier provincia es hermosa, distinguida. obvio no somos bs as ni queremos serlo.
Aún tiene árboles, pájaros, acequias, espacios verdes etc.
Aunque creo q estas imágenes no le favorece parece q busco lugares que no dice mucho. En fin pero es Mendoza y sé que es muy linda y orgulloso de ser mendocino.

I wondered about that myself, but perhaps the video itself provides the answer, for there are many, many elderly walking around, just doing daily things, apparently not feeling guarded or afraid. Numbeo states the Mendoza crime rate as "High," but as in all areas, certain higher-crime sections will skew the overall results.
I am wanting to take a vacation there and also Córdoba . I'm looking for a place to retire. I know there is crime everywhere but is the crime high is these areas?
nah it's pretty chill. just be street wise like you would be anywhere in the world, but in general it's totally safe to be around

what are those ditches alongside the streets? are they storm drains? why aren't they covered? they must be dangerous at night people must fall into them and get badly hurt or even killed.
Those ditches are an heritage from a pre-Columbian culture and they're used for draining water and irrigating the city's groves, that's why Mendoza is so green despite being located in the middle of a desert. I don't think people will fall into them unless they're drunk or dumb.
Very smart infrastructure. Just imagine what springtime would be like in Mendoza without the aqueducts, with the snow melt from Aconcagua and the Andes just to the west.
I completely don't understand the large gaps along the sidewalk on some of the streets. It looks dangerous enough during daylight but at night, after a couple of drinks? - wow.
Goalie Dave they are nessesary, they have water inside, because Mendoza is a desert. Without them the city wouldn't even have trees.

Mendoza is located in a middle of a desert.These trees are possible thanks to these ditches...
They're called 'acequias' and they're typical in the cities of San Juan and Mendoza. That's because it's a very dry zone, so they use it to distribute the water flowing down from the Andes mountain range to all the trees in the city, the farms and the wine plantations. What is interesting about it is that the Huarpes, native inhabitants of the area, developed this irrigation system in pre-Columbian times.

esperaba que éste video nos diera a los argentinos una idea de lo que es Mendoza , creo que es un objetivo que no se logró , ( lo siento mucho ) , nos dió una idea anodina , triste , y opaca de lo que es realmente , y quiero tener una visión personal de ésa tierra de los huarpes , del sol y de los buenos vinos , por que en enero del '19 estaré visitando ésa provincia y contemplar el imponente presencia de la cordillera , que en éste video se obvió ! un saludo a los mendocinos ! En las ciudades mendocinas hay que tener cuidado con las canaletas que hay entre las calles y la vereda jeje, te caes ahí y que porrazo te pegas.

-69- esas zanjas originada se llaman a sequías sirven para llevar agua que baja de la montaña a las represas y luego a las acequias , son para regar los árboles un sistema de regadío único en el mundo diría yo ,!, ya que en Mendoza llueve muy poco! Era un desierto cuando se plantaron todos estos miles y miles de árboles hoy en día un oasis!!

Although they're rainwater ditches, why aren't they underground, piped and covered ???, apart from giving very bad image they're dangerous.

Aunque sean acequias pluviales, por qué no están bajo tierra, entubadas y tapadas???, a parte de dar muy mala imagen son un peligro.
Estoy de acuerdo no me gustan pero es un sistema de regadío para los árboles, Mendoza era un desierto hoy en día un oasis!, el agua baja de las montañas hacia los diques y luego a las acequias que se transforman en pequeñas canales de irrigación
Aparte de que cuando llueve las acequias ayudan a que fluya bien el agua y no se inunden partes de la provincia, deberías investigar

@@flexer7822 No necesito investigar, sé de lo que hablo. En el vídeo vi lo que vi y no me vas a convencer de otra cosa. Para evitar inundaciones se pueden hacer muchas cosas y realizar muchas clases de obras de ingeniería a mayor escala y no dejar unas acequias abiertas en plena ciudad. Tendría que explicarte muchas cosas sobre ingeniería y no me apetece. Investiga tú por ejemplo, sobre los tanques de tormentas ... Saludos.
@@mariogiusta1265 En el Nepal o en la India me parecería bien el sistema, no hay tantos medios como para hacer grandes obras de ingeniería, pero en un país un poco desarrollado, buff! como que ese sistema no existe, no... en Europa solo lo he visto en los países del Este, en zonas rurales. Saludos.

I lived in Mendoza for several months and I don't recognize any of this. The route taken here seems well off the beaten path.
Mendoza no está en la zona central norte, sino completamente en el centro de Argentina. Por otro lado no han mostrado el Paseo Sarmiento, la Avenida San Martín, el centro bancario, las zonas donde palpita la vida de la ciudad cotidianamente. No han mostrado el bellísimo Parque San Martín. Se han limitado a mostrar algunas calles solamente y Mendoza es una ciudad de provincia, pero muy vibrante porque junto con su conurbano es muy grande. Amo a mi Mendoza!
Tal vez quería mostrar a la gente común en situaciones cotidianas.

Boryana Istatkova Agujeros, jajajaja me hiciste reír!!, se llaman acequias, sirven para regar los árboles, cuando el agua baja de las montañas va hacia diques y represas luego a las acequias un sistema de regadío extraordinario y único en el mundo !!!, los limpian los empleados de la municipalidad a cargo de eso, pero en realidad la gente no tira residuos ahí, Mendoza la ciudad mas limpia de Argentina!!

These ditches were not made by the Indians, they were made by the Spaniards. The Indians did not live in cities or towns, nor cultivated the land were nomads. The ditches bring in spring and summer water from the mountains that irrigate the trees of the city, because Mendoza is built in a desert.
