I bought Malabar spinach and kangkong spinach this year. They both came with the others name on them. I was so confused when they started growing and not looking like I was expecting feom watching videos on wach. I thought I had just mislabeled them when I started the seeds but nope, lol, the packages are mislabeled. Doesn't matter lol I can't wait to try them both out. God bless and happy growing everyone 💜
Thank you so much! You’ve shown exactly what I was looking for.
I love malabar. So do my chickens, sheep and neighbors.
Lol the chicken in the background trying to eat the spinach 😂
Thank you for this really informative and helpful video.
Hi Dan. I had a Malabar Spinach come up in a crack in the driveway. It was close to a trellis. It covered the whole thing. I just water it. It is beautiful. Thanks for the tips.
I barely got any spinach this summer in Phoenix. It grew but gave me very little spinach this summer now is getting seeds.
Save them precious seeds…if you can;t propagate cuttings ….they your backup
Grew some this summer. One plant grew over trellis and has grew several vines that I have elevated it to keep out of way of other plants. Very hearty plant that pests avoid. Sauteed with olive oil, garlic, red onions and lemon juice. It's tasty and works in pesto.
I have both green and read varieties. They just reseed in the Spring. Been eating it since we were little. I won't eat it raw, but they now serve it as a salad at high end restaurants in Manila, Philippines.
Raw have no,prob….organic with compost
So what time of the year so we plant this?
It’s quick cook wilt …and grows fast and big…its enemy is cold weather ..learned that on own…so enjoy the 3 seasons with it
Can you grow Malimar spinach all year in Phoenix?
Thats Pilipino spinach( alugbati ) we called that..thanks for sharing your video’s..watching from Fresno California
I’ll be putting the seeds down directly in a week or so here in Arizona zone 9b.
I learn so much from you. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Love and light. Blessed be
Do you sell seeds?
Asian market some time have malabar spinach. Malabar spinach can be clone just like mint/ sweer potatoes. You can place the thick trunk in water or place it in a moist medium and it will root.
Where is the best place to get the green variety "Basel Alba"? I read it is more bushier......ideas anyone reading this ??
wow, just giggle, giggle, giggle, under water and boom, they separate......good tip
Why my malabar spinach always have that fungus disease on the leafs (those black disease on the leafs)
Yes I’m on my 2 bd year growing this spinach
We really like malabar spinach, it’s nice and crunchy, and a great green for soup. We just had home raised rabbit soup and threw in some red malabar. Thank you for the tips! I always use the information you provide.
The red one (Basella rubra) has a powerful antioxidant (anthocyanin) . Have you tried to grow the red Malabar Spinach?
You rock, Plant Abundance……FJB!
I tried to start some Malibar this year unsuccessfully. I did not do the soak nor scarification. I will try that next year. I have not had any luck with spinach, but I like eating it. I will keep trying until I figure it out.
do not plant anywhere you do not want in to spread ALL over. The plant drops 1000 of seeds and will come up everywhere. Beautiful plant and so easy to grow but wish i liked the taste. 😫
I still grow it for my friends who love it and am currently picking all of the seedlings taking over part of my garden.
So it doesn’t bolt to seed with excess heat?
Caution. Its is high in mucilage which makes it slimey when cooked. I wouldnt eat it if i didnt grow up eating it. Very strong easy grower and healthy. Ive never tried it raw.
Yeah, totally slimey. I hate eating it even now, but back then I was forced to eat it because my folks believed it's a good source of iron.
Chicken wants some
To me the spinach has a kinda of waxy taste when eaten raw. When cooked I find it to be fine.
This is growing like crazy in my garden. I need suggestions for what to do with it. The flavor is a bit much. Help!
This year they were abundant in Texas drought
I had a ton of Malabar spinach but didn't really know what to do with it. I don't like soup in the summer. Way too hot in the south for soup.
shit taste like eating grass
