Deva Devam Bhaje - Margazhi Performance #27

This piece describes the glory of Lord Rama as he is able to valiantly defeat King Ravana and shine as the jewel of his dynasty. He is an incarnation of the supreme being, and has a kingly discipline which he used to break Shiva’s bow in Janaka’s court and lead a siege on Lanka to rescue Sita Devi.
The dance features two episodes from the Ramayana. In the first, Lord Rama accompanies Vishwamitra Maharishi into the forest to safeguard the yajña of the rishis from the demons, Maricha and Subahu. The second depicts how Lord Rama humbly breaks Shiva’s bow to win the affection of Sita Devi.
