Great info, thanks! Commodore sure did get inspired by 2001: A Space Odyssey for model numbers (not just 2001, but 1001 and 3001 were surely influenced as well) and fonts too!
I enjoyed that! Nicely links in the purchase the the Dallas LCD glass fab which fed the watch and calculator business: and almost the Commodore LCD computer! Reposted to Bluesky, btw. All my Commodore chums are over there these days.
Thanks so much for the support! Historical tidbit about the Commodore LCD computer: the glass for that was done by Eagle-Pitcher Industries. Commodore sold their LCD operations to Eagle-Pitcher in the first quarter of 1986.
I remember my grandmother’s house had one of these Commodore thermostats, was still in use circa Y2K. Now I wonder where they were sold in Des Moines, Iowa back in the early 80’s.
Well, this is new to me. Good work somehow locating this unexpected Commodore device. I wonder what else is out there. I'm hoping there is a Commodore defibrillator, and I am expecting a full demo if you find one.
No defibrillator that I'm aware of, but there was a stair-climbing wheelchair: commodore.international/2021/07/04/the-commodore-stair-climbing-wheelchair/
Fascinating. What are the "educational products" the document at 6:22 mentions? The document at 6:52 mentions audio-visual material to teach English to Japanese coustomers, was there more?
You can read about Commodore Educational Systems, Ltd (formed in 1971) on my website here: commodore.international/2021/06/28/thomas-k-mcgourty-a-key-figure-in-commodores-early-history/
i am not a thermostat expert but the one in my home is way more primitive than this it seems very fancy for 1980 .the one in my parents house is more advanced but its from 2002 we used stoves before that year. but i want to find out when the one in my house was made. but it has no model number it only says it was made by a company called theben and it seems like they had the same logo for almost 100 years. but it looks like this house was a real mess before the 80s since there wasn't even a toilet for the first few decades. so they probably still used stoves back then too and the thermostat was added much later. the boiler looks very modern at least post 2000 but they probably had another one before the one that is there now.

Bil Herd said Commodore owned Eagle-Pitcher.
@@KarlHamilton I'll have to check my Brian Bagnall book
@@stupossibleify I uploaded the relevant bits of the Eagle-Pitcher annual report here: commodore.international/downloads/eagle-pitcher.jpg
.....and spelled Eagle-Picher wrong. Like 5 times.
Pronounced Tramiel correctly. Always a sign that someone really knows their stuff 😊
I own a commodore scientific calculator. I thought that was rare. I admit you've got me beat with that unit.
You own one heck of a nice commodore device. Enjoy!
