Oh, you missed the beginning credits. That's actually one of the best parts.
It's a brilliant part in the film. I did not want to leave it out but had an issue with the early part of the recording, unfortunately.
"Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"
Fun Fact: The famous depiction of galloping horses by using coconut shells (a traditional radio-show sound effect) came about from the purely practical reason that the production simply could not afford real horses.
Metal Funding Fact: Funds earned by Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon (1973) went towards funding this movie. The band were such fans of the show, they would halt recording sessions just to watch Monty Python's Flying Circus (1969). Led Zeppelin and Genesis contributed to this movie's budget as well.
Swallow This Fact: The airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow is roughly eleven meters per second, or twenty-four miles per hour, beating its wings seven to nine times per second rather than forty-three. It's true: A five-ounce bird cannot carry a one pound coconut, but furthermore, no swallow weighs five ounces. The English barn swallow weighs only twenty grams (two-thirds of an ounce).
Historical Fact: The French tactic of pelting Arthur (Graham Chapman) and his knights with livestock echoes the relatively modern legend of a medieval siege of the fortified southern French town of Carcassonne. Said to have been near starvation, the townspeople used the last of their food to pelt the besieging army to convince them, suffering likewise, that the town was well stocked with food and that the siege was hopeless. The tactic was successful, and the siege was lifted.
Thank God successful musical acts were fans of Python
Thanks, Liam! Thanks, Ioana! 🏆 Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones co-directed this one.
I didn't know Terry Jones directed too
Keep em coming. Great series, enjoyed every one. Cool beans guys
Thanks Innercircle 👍
"Your mother was a hamster" - basically saying your mum sleeps around a lot.
"Your father smelt of elderberries" - calling your dad a cheap drunk.
Nice to get a bit of context behind the insults 😂
Nice! The first few times I saw this I was still young enough to run around yelling "Ni!" at my friends. It marks Terry Gilliam's debut as a director. He animated the animated parts in this too. For a taste of what he could do with a full budget, check out Time Bandits (1981), a sorely underrated classic that inspired The Princess Bride.
Isn't Michael Palin in that film? I've only seen a few clips
Transylvanian girlfriend. Dracula author Bram Stoker was Irish. It makes sense now. 🤣
Given that fact, it would have been sacrilegious if we hadn't watched 'Dracula' 😂
Something I have never seen anybody else catch is about the knight that kills the historian. All of the knights with King Arthur have their sigils on their vests and the killer has none. Also the killer is actually riding a horse when none of the knight have one. They were innocent of the crime.
They were guilty of being idiots on a larp. Not illegal these days. But ... there has to be something that can stick. For French sake.
King Athur screwed out of being the hero he was set up to be 😂
@@IrishGuyReacts you're told your whole life that one day you are going to be a hero. You train, eat raw eggs, run up some stairs in a victory dance. Then, you get arrested for wasting a dude you don't even know and never met. Today's problems.
This was too much fun for this early hour😊. Forgot how much i love monty python. Its nice sometimes in this crazy mixed up getting scary world to just sit and laugh at total silliness! Thank you to both for the hilarious video and commentary
A great film for a bit of escapism 😉
It’s been said in interviews that not only did they lack the money for horses but nobody knew how to ride and they lacked the time and money for them to learn how to ride. For an interesting story google how they got the money for the movie after the studio turned them down for funding.
But you missed that horses were also the pivotal plot point. This was a tragic tale of false arrest and police investigative malfeasance. Arthur and his men were 100% innocent. They absolutely could not have killed the famous historian, as the actual killer was riding a real horse.
Wasn't it The Life Of Brian that George Harrison helped fund?
Because she looks liiike oooone!
The Newt line gets me most in that scene..'I Got Better'...😂
"When a joke is explained...life is no longer worth living." -Dr Katz maybe?
A bunch of Grail is based upon history. A "ducking stool" was used to test witches. Castles under seige would catapult out dead animals. Theres a "legenday" castle Argh. Other bits too.
Does any of this make the jokes funnier? One might argue: nope.
I think it may actually make it funnier and even add depth to the film
Star Wars - A New Hope came out in 1977 is that close enough?
I already reacted to that on the channel. 👍
Well this is a different reaction for you 2 😊
Indeed, a real change of pace 😉
This movie has no reason to be. Yet it is because we are some screwed up people who love viewing it. We have to be screwed up to watch a larp done this well.
You skipped the opening credits! I *refuse* to watch.
Believe me, I did not want to leave that out of the edit. But had an issue with that part of the recording.
