I'm falling in love with this farm, and the beautiful animals and flora that you show in your videos. What an absolutely incredible looking place! I can feel the serenity through the computer. and no doubt in Alberta. I was born in Alberta but raised and live on Vancouver Island - a mecca for permaculture and backyard gardening, but it's so unique to see this happening in AB. I always dreamed of farming with permaculture on the prairies. this is my first time witnessing it in the real. keep up the increidble work and may you be blessed :)
Talking about pig genetics for raising with less grain, maybe trapping some wild pigs would be a good place to start. I'm going to go trap some in southern missouri and bring them back to the farm. Where you been, more vids please. You been eating any more minnows, got some fathead going out here, chickens like them.

What resource are you using. That gives nutritional value of cat tails? Everything I researched. They are essentially a nutritionaless content. Definitely next to nothing in protein. If possible I would like to review the resourcing material. That you used to get another perspective on their nutritional content. Thank you in advance!
Can you mow it with a side bar-cicle? Have it fall over into a hay wagon. Stack and dry it somehow, and have winter feed?? Would cattail grow back stronger like tip grazing does to pasture legumes, grasses, clover...?

Here's what I don't understand about pigs: Out in the wild, or when allowed to forage, a principal part of their diet is roots, tubers, bulbs, rhizomes and the like--things that are in dirt. Dirty things. Full of microbes, both good and bad. And they chew it happily. Now they are said to have digestive systems that are remarkably similar to another omnivore: Humans. But if I were to gobble down on such dirty, unwashed and raw stuff, I'm pretty sure I would very, very sick. I may just have to take some ivermectin for its intended purposes. How do pigs do it?
Humans have been omnivores only after since we learned agriculture. Most of our diet before then consisted of meat/fish. Humans don't regularly need to eat ivermectin in order to stay alive. Our immune system takes care of most baddies that may threaten our bodies. If it is working properly, that is. Most things that would jeopardize our health have been taken care of by modern understanding. There is plenty of examples of people living old-school that live healthily for very long just by virtue of our newfound knowledge. Healthy people just don't get sick that easily. I saw the pig comment. It was mean.

Nice. Good observations of pig behaviour. Looks like jerusalem artichoke for the spring combined with cattail in summer, fall would be a nice combo.

have you considered Idaho pasture pigs? I hear they grow better on pasture due to the Kune Kune being a pig that can survive on forage, but bigger.
