    Oh, you wouldn't believe the number of people I've seen relate to the "I thought that it'd be over now, but I got a while to go" line in relation to their life - because they were suicidal when younger and never thought they'd live to see age 25 or 30, and now they find themselves at that age with no idea how to do this Life thing. I doubt that is what Bo meant or how he himself felt, but I love that his lyrics can be meaningful in so many different ways.

      Literally exactly how I feel about that line. And the line before of “is there anyone out there or am I all alone? It wouldn’t make a difference still I don’t wanna know.” It hits me in my feels deep, it’s like the feeling of wanting to have people there but then the second someone’s there to be with you and give you a shoulder to cry on you don’t even care anyway. Idk super apathetic feel to that line.

    Also, most people do love the special. Those who don’t, are upset that he’s actively trying not to offend others, and they were hoping for jokes that punch down.
    I also saw a few people criticize the special because they think he’s being inauthentic. Because of his last stand up where he said, when he’s on stage, he’s not being honest for a even a second, and it’s all a lie. So they assume his moments of mental deterioration, documented between each song, is all fake. They also seem to like to bring up the fact that he’s a privileged man with a lot of money, and a girlfriend, as though he has no excuse to be depressed, which just ends up really aggravating me. People can still have a loving family, money, and fame, and be depressed or anxious.

    • @Mekias
      @Mekias 2 роки тому +22

      That's interesting. I just assumed that at least a portion of the anxiety and depression shown in Inside was embellished or even just an act. Why does it have to be 100% real for it to be good? Besides, as you said, being rich or successful doesn't make a person happy or incapable of depression.

    • @Amanda-mb5sp
      @Amanda-mb5sp 2 роки тому

      @@Mekias Dude! Your life has to be sad and pathetic to try to make an argument out of what she just said.
      You’re inauthenticity is on full display and you look like an ass.
      She makes a lot of good points. If you concentrate on what you like instead of tearing others down because of what they do, you might be a little better off than you are.
      You tell the world what a sad little thing you are by not telling it about what makes your opinion worth reading.
      Tell us what makes you…well, you!
      Unless you live under a bridge. We are all going to assume that from the previous comment.

      @@Amanda-mb5sp I'm not sure what I said that caused your response. I was commenting on the people who Grace mentioned were critical of the special because they thought Bo was being inauthentic. really? i think the special if very offending to people who deserve to be offended by it. i never felt like he was trying to avoid offending some people. the special is very leftist and anti-capitalist.

    • @GraceT
      @GraceT 2 роки тому +9

      @@Mekias I did see that a lot of people were convinced it was all an act. I think even if it was, which i don’t think it was, it still came from a very real place originally. I do think that Bo is a decent actor, but there are some things in Inside, like the look in his eyes that progressively gets even more tragic as the special goes on, the very real moment where he almost broke the camera, the frustration, and then the most bleak moment of all where he said he wasn’t well- he’s a good actor, but he’s not /that/ good.
      Also, there are many interviews he’s done between his last special, and this one, where he’s really become fascinated with authenticity and vulnerability, which is evident in his movie Eighth Grade. I think the moments between songs were his way of trying to give us something real, rather than something staged. Even if it’s not real, to me, in the end, it doesn’t matter though.

    Yeah, this is absolutely about how Bo is asking for criticism but doesn't actually want to know the answer to his questions, or even how his viewers are experiencing his special. The intense anxiety he feels towards receiving any criticism. Because if you put yourself out there, creating something as personal as a special like this, anyone criticizing it likely feels like a personal attack. And humans, being human, tend to disregard praise and focus only on negativity. You can see this play out in real time on Twitter regularly where someone will post something that has thousands of positive responses, but claim the website is a trash fire over a relatively small number of negative tweets. Bo asked, but he doesn't really want to know.
    And you are doing really great. Most reactors aren't particularly insightful. The concept of watching something and then immediately articulating your visceral thoughts as it is happening isn't particularly good for critical analysis. But you are a pretty deep thinker, and a pretty sensitive guy. Which makes your videos well worth watching, as you genuinely try to grapple with the material not as content, but as art. It is why I watch every video and frequently comment (and like and subscribe).
    Also you should totally react to the twitch stream.

    The other facet with this song, and with Bo, specifically, is that he's used to being a live-performer. All of his content, prior to this (once he was at the point where he was leaving the house and doing long-form content... "Words, Words, Words", "What?", "Make Happy") could be audience-tested and shopped in clubs, or with peers, or even just live feedback in situ. It's a very fish-out-of-water feeling to take a standup comedian and put them in a movie... or take an improv comedian and make them do standup... or take a live musician and put them in a studio.
    Even somebody who has learned to do both of those tasks is still going to hit some cognitive dissonance when they're asked to do something they're used to doing in one format, but do it in the other format, instead (like taking sterile, calculated, perfect music performances needed for engineering, and then adding body and life to them in concert without the benefit of backing tracks and the like).
    In this case, he's building out an entire film's worth of content, where he can't shop it with peers or test-audiences; not in any meaningfully dynamic way, until it releases a year later (production also being a part of the "thought I'd be done by now... but I've got a while to go" angle). He knows how to make a song; he knows how to make a stand-up bit; he knows how to make a movie... but now his stand-up stuff needs to fit the film format under very, very closed-set conditions.
    PS: whether you do it inline, or come back to it later, definitely react to that short Let's Play that basically leads into the next tune.

    This was a good articulate reaction,, a lot of what you just said makes perfect sense, good job and thanks for your commentary and thoughts' , perspective. my only thought when it comes to lines or phrases that can be taken in multiple ways in my eyes is always a sign of genius.
    It reminds me of a time when back in the Day when Saturday Night Live used to be good, Ed Asner did a skit where he was a manager of a nuclear power plant, the skit was about him as the manager getting ready to go on vacation but before leaving the office in a meeting with the staff, he said... " Remember, you can't fill the reactors too full of water and with that he left.
    The next day when the staff was talking about his comment, it became clear they did not know what he meant and it became an uncertainty of what the boss meant, did he mean, it don't mater how much water you put in the reactor or if you put to much water in the reactor that it could be Deleterious? after a short debate, the staff made the decision and in the next scene, the entire power plant blew up. whoops...
    So, I think the point to open ended questions like this are designed to make people think... anyway. hey, I don't know the answers, only the questions.
    But I really enjoy your reactions, I see your wheels spinning thinking deeply as is the point, I think LOL

      the worst 'criticism' i've seen of him was a reactor who saw "white womman's instagram', thought it was all about making fun of stupid bitches on instagram, talked over the final verse that gives the entire song context, and then had all the comments roast him for being an idiot.

    I did see one person recently say they watched the special for the first time and ended up not liking it and called it a flop. They weren't being super harsh but it did surprise me. I have seen other people dislike it but usually those are people who either just don't like Bo or prefer his old stuff

    I agree that this one (and Bezos 1) are totally fucking bops. This one and Bezos 1 are def up there in my top five of Bo, and honestly all my top 5 are probably from this special.
    I think that it is from the perspective of him as a producer/director, but also from the point of view of a comedian. He mentions it in Comedy and in Look Who's Inside Again (and in a later song, Goodbye but I won't spoil it by giving you the line) that like "should I be making jokes" and "trying to be funny while stuck in a room." Like when he was a UA-cam star the moment he posted a video he could get feed back, and when he was doing live shows he had instant feedback, but now doing a special where there's no one but him in the room he has no idea if his jokes are funny, if anything that he's saying is sticking. And that's gotta be terrifying for a comedian and for Bo in general, he wants to make other people happy, he wants to do all this for other people (as he's mentioned in previous specials) and to not know if he's done that is making him anxious. But at the same time, he doesn't want to know. Because as long as he isn't told what people think about it, he doesn't have to know if people didn't like it. It's a Schrodinger's cat situation. The audience neither likes nor hates the special so long as he doesn't open the box (doesn't hear the criticism).
    I really felt for him in this song, like a bunch of the others you really feel for him, but this one I felt like I understood what he felt the most.
    (Side note: watched this special with my girlfriend, and right as this song was starting she pulled out her phone so she could respond to a text message and when he got to the line where he asked "are you on your phone?" I looked over at her and had to laugh. She was like "I feel so attacked right now!")

    Aw man I love your reactions. I'm looking forward to when you do the livestream. I'm excited for you to see the rest of the special. I think I've watched it 30 times by now. It had to have been so weird for him to spend a whole year on something with no idea how it would be received and no feedback in the moment. I wonder if he ran any of the songs or bits by his girlfriend for her opinion. I think most of the people who don't like it either don't "get" Millennial humor and experience, or felt like it was too "woke", or were old fans from back in the day who only like his edgyboi material.

    Hey, I just checked out your channel and when I realized you have only been making videos a month, I lost my mind. How have you grown so fast? You average like 8 thousand views a video, that's unbelievable for someone on UA-cam a month. What would you attribute your quick growth to besides your obviously good setup? I really am flabbergasted.

    I've seen a few negative comments about, mostly from people you instinctively know won't like it in the first place. I think the worst thing that happened when he released Inside was some new viewers went down the Bo rabbit hole of his old songs/stand ups/videos and demanded he be cancelled because of those. That's I think why some of his videos in his channel now have comments disabled. I think Klan Kookout was even removed. I'm like, have you even seen Problematic?

      If there is stuff to unpack, and unpacking that stuff takes longer than the time to provide symbology/allegory, then why not?
      I get that literary and cinematic analysis might not be your thing, but that's ok; there are a lot of people out there whom you can watch be mind-blown, and then do their “I liked it”, their outro schpiel, and in and out with less than 10 seconds added to the runtime of the video. And that's cool. But also cool is people who want to deconstruct it, to find themes and messages and easter eggs and callbacks; and doing that takes time. Especially if you are inventing your opinion and constructing your analysis on the fly, which I (and apparently, several others) think is great content.
      Why demand that everybody be the same?
      And why make “the same” be:
      “Today I am going to watch... ...I really liked it. Like and subscribe”?

    • @kamalyousry2697
      @kamalyousry2697 2 роки тому +1

      @@theory-in-motion you're absolutely right , I just think of a reaction video that's simply a guy " reacts " to a video comments once in a while during it , but the analysis goes under the " commentary " , and I came here to see the reaction as the title says , so i think and this is just me that he could " react " to the full video at first , then he do the analysis , even if he's gonna explain the video frame by frame , and that way the people who came to see the reaction would be pleased and the people who came to see the commentary would be pleased too
