- This was the absolute highlight of the concert. Outside of the national anthem, these are some of the best vocals we've heard from Kim Ok Ju in years. Both her and Choe Sol Hui seem to be fluent in Russian and would regularly sing together in the language as part of Unhasu Orchestra ( • Unhasu Orchestra - 사랑의... ). I must confess I am not Choe’s greatest fine. There have been many ocassions where she has been tone-deaf and out of tune in Korean. However, it is in another languages where she shines. This was no exception.
Apologies for the video quality not being as good as normal. My internet in Japan isn’t particularly fast, and I didn’t want to stall working on this with it being new and relevant.

Reminds me so much of the Romanian folk song "Românie, Românie" which was sung by a similar NK singer during a visit by the Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu in the year 1982.

Thanks, my friend! I must admit, seeing the mugs of the war minister Shoigu and his delegation was a "pleasure" I could gladly do without, but the performance was top notch! Their fluency in Russian never ceases to amaze me! Glad to see Kim Ok Ju again :)
As for the songs, No. 1 (first 20 seconds) is a XIX century classic, 2, 3 and 5 are new ones, i.e. bland and mediocre. 4 and 6 are great Soviet ones from the 1970s. "Victory Day" is the Soviet/Russian analog of 우리의 7.27

I have a feeling that the song industry has gone down in North Korea
In the 1950s to 1970s it was traditional but good quality.
The 1980s and 1990s were the golden era with Pochonbo and Wangjesan doing cover of forgein songs and many varied traditional folk songs
As the Kim Jong Il era advanced, many songs dedicated to him emerged and the quality started to drop but the existence of Wangjesan, Pochonbo and Unhasu was still strong
With Kim Jong Un and earlu Moranbong we saw another decline (despite the intresting westernification of the band and the modernization of the song, the music lost a bit of uniqueness although there is some decent and original songs
The post Moranbong era is a failure and there has been a decline in the Music industry.
The Post Moranbong band is a mix of Moranbong and Pochonbo but with the soul lost.
The last hope is a return of Chongbong and Unhasu
I miss some of the Wangjesan 1990s performances
Also the Chorus of National Theater is an underrated and almost unknown music group of DPRK, that gave some concerts in Spain back in 1990
The music has declined despite there been less abdunace of Propaganda songs
There was many pro Kim Jong Il songs praising him a lot
Kim Jong Un isn't searching praise so much and that is causing the industry to weaken
North Korean music was made with a purpose. A music made to glorify Juche Korea and with less need of praise and still a strong censorship the industry will die
There is no more push for creation of propaganda songs but creating songs is faced with censorship
The movie and series industry is well and alive
It hasn't the depth of KJI era of good psychology character but KJU era movies and series have more human values and less militar/Auth ones
They restoring family, and even doing mild criticism of the system (Sunset in the North)
The values are less authoritarian, but they lack something that KJI era movies had and was the development of dark characters
Tbh I think it's still fine, just not as good. The Moranbong Band was fine for me but the 1990s was truly the golden era of North Korean music, I can agree with you there. It's a shame that Pochonbo and Wangjaesan disbanded.
Dude, this still beats anything you'd hear on the radio here in the West.

As far as the performance is concerned, it really is top notch, well as top notch as it can be while they are singing such corny rubbish as Shamans "Vstaněm", or "Vpered Rossija" by Oleg Gazmanov. Really bland and mediocre songs that have been memed to death with parodies being made both in Russia and outside of Russia, so kinda weird and also funny seeing a prestigious and esteemed North Korean orchestra perfoming such songs. Anyways, as the previous commenter said, seeing minister Shoigu is definetly something I could do without, seeing the many ukrainian refugees fleeing into my country as a direct result of their imperialist conquest.. Kinda sad seeing the DPRK side with literal fascists. But eh, thats life i suppose. Not many people to side with these days who are also against the US.
Anyways, the Chinese song medley by the former Moranbong band was def better.
I agree with you ideologically, but nevertheless, let's appreciate the talent and hard work of the Korean performers who don't get to choose their repertoire, and let's praise the owner of this channel for his efforts to popularize North Korean music.
