My memory was being squad leader and methodicaly advancing from position to position to keep spawning team mates. poping smokes for my squad and from time to time using them as cannon fodder to know when to move and when to cover haha
Hell Let Loose mains, please come to Red Orchestra 2. We even have the Pacific Theater in this other cool game that's combined with it called Rising Storm
that moment when your artillery barage called behind the point gets 20-30 kills and your team take the point. also tank interiors are really good. even better than some newer games of the genre
I think one of the big things for me is the voices and vocals of the characters. There are so few games which build the chaotic atmosphere like RO2. Love it.
I'm gonna make you a pro at this game with some tips for the eastern front: Fact: -Go into options and turn on manual bolting. You will now bolt rifles super quickly. Thank me later. -While in options bind the walk button to whatever key you want. When you sprint you lose speed if you change direction or walk in water. While sprinting you can now hold the walk key to run in any direction or over water with no speed penalty. -Hip firing is nearly 100% accurate to where your barrel is pointed. I almost never aim for shots under ~40 meters. Practice that aiming deadzone to get fast reaction shots. People will get mad at you for hitting 150 meter shots while bleeding out and unable to aim. -Tanks from both sides are super easy to pen with the AT gun if you know where to aim. For the T-34 hit the turret ring where the gunner is sitting and the Panzer IV can easily be downed by hitting the lower glacis. -If you're bleeding out you cannot reload, but if you have another weapon you can drop your spent firearm and you'll equip your backup to keep mag dumping. Opinion: -Play rifleman. Bolt action is the best action. Nearly always 1 hit KO PLUS you'll do your team a huge service if you pick up enemy equipment. Promote yourself to MG or assault when you find a "better" gun on the battlefield. -Don't use the cover system that's in the game. It's almost always better to back off from a piece of cover and expose as little of yourself as you can. -Nobody, not even myself, ever expects anyone to bum rush them with a melee charge. You'd be surprised how effective bayonets can be in a frontal assault. -Marksmen are not snipers!!! You are a rifleman with a fancy rifle. We need you to take your candy behind up to the flanks and prioritize MG, squad leaders, and commanders! Stop staying in the rear taking pot shots at other riflemen. -A good MG in the right place is worth more than any tank or arty strike. Nearly every map has it's cheeky hiding spots for good machine gunners. -True chads understand that friendly fire happens to the best of us.
Banger game, I return to it relatively rarely but every time I do I can find at least two populated servers. Maybe that's EU privilege but this game is not dead by any means, huge respect to the vets still playing every day. Absolutely unmatched atmosphere and sense of place, with just the right blend of hardcore and arcadey gameplay. I thought I was gonna love HLL when it came out and I appreciate that game for what it is but RO2/RS1 is the pinnacle of the genre for me, the spawn system and map design is really generous and means you're never more than a minute or two away from action. I used to main this game with friends back in the day and I'm the only one who still plays it sometimes - so glad I do though, I always end up staying on for hours longer than I meant to
Same haha, there were so many other aspects of the game that I could have mentioned here but I wanted to keep it short (suppression, hipfiring, soundtrack, etc. etc). HLL is fun in it's own way, but I agree with the spawns and maps being absolutely perfect in RO2
this was the only game that made me feel like I was part of a team that was all working for each other instead of just racking up kills. I've never been able to find another game that gave me that experience.
I think one of the reason for this is because they dont show statistics like a kill/death ratio. That helps, because playing egoistic and going for kills wont do anything. And even kills are useless because it is very easy to get a lot of kills as a commander. So going just for kills as rifleman is pointless. Whats left is to capture the objectives
such a gem of a game! i sometimes play it , and man it takes me back! also works out of the box on linux with proton if you are also on the linux peninsula
One of my go to games, played the series since it began back on Unreal Tournament 2004 and way before the time clock started in steam. The RO2 and RS are pure fun to play with or without bots; bots make great shooting gallery targets. The RS Viet-Nam wasnt a fav of mine, no bots; BUT the Black Orchestra in production could be a great contender, and lets not forget Hero's of the West too. Gotta say great video, and thanks for the showcase.
Spent good part of my late teens and early twenties playing this game think at least accumulated 800 hours on this game + 400 hours on rising storm I think I’m ready for red orchestra 3 if it ever came out don’t think I will see the light of day for a month at least 😂
Aside from the killfeed I think the hud is great in terms of balance between immersion and awareness. Credit should be given to the nameplate occlusion. I haven’t seen done better in any game. Hell Let Loose has a similar function but it’s garbage, you still end up killing your own guys because their names don’t pop up from a distance. You end up having to turn on friendly unit markers up to maximum distance which ruins immersion. Anyways thanks for covering this game. The community is strong and will keep it alive for years to come.
thanks for the comment. Great point about the nameplate occlusion, it really is nice and subtle. Amazing how much worse it is in newer games. Squad especially comes to mind
I never played any red orchestra before, I was wondering if the small community is welcoming for new players or not. If they're welcome then I'll buy both red orchestra games today and try it out 😅
the community is super chill - its a somewhat relaxed game in terms of people not taking it too seriously. No one will give you a problem for being new
Idk know if people have the same issue as me I’ll join a server and it will run smooth but then all the sudden my ping will jump to 980 ping and won’t drop and can’t get fix it please let me know how to fix this
Due to wallbanging/scanning mechanics they could have been even 200m away and still rack kills easily as soon as they saw someone in doorway then spraying reinforcements behind walls, or simply spraying just in case or for supression every now and then. If its not fat piece of brick but some flimsy wood, you really do not want to make enemy known of your presence, especially the MGs.
ro2 is a little slower paced, maps slightly larger, with more players. If you’re familiar with insurgency though, you could pick this up relatively quick
Isn't the game dead? Every time I go on, I rarely see anyone and the people who are on don't talk or type so they're basically NPCs. I remember back in the day this game had lobbies filled with people who wouldn't stop talking and now it just sad
I think it's pretty time dependent. All this footage is pretty recent, and I was having luck finding a relatively full server on NA East afternoons and evenings. There isn't a lot of chatter compared to the old days though, you're right about that
@@nohud_ Depends on luck... a couple of days ago I got to a Russian server where there was an English commander. And the commander was constantly giving orders, and we were constantly communicating in Russian, both on business and remembering the old days. I felt a surge of nostalgia, because this is how I remember this game in 2014
Best memory of this game was - Spawn->run into mg->die->repeat
Then Voice spamming Ooooraaaah with mates
zastalinaaaaaa!!

Pacific Comming to Squad 44
@torca1992 That's Based, I've been hearing and seeing a lot of good things about Squad 44
Squad 44 and hell let loose are both way more milsimy than ro2, also all the maps for those games are just giant fields
@@xhg7a this is a human wave simulator, Squad 44 and hll are Squad but with ww2 skins

yup, that was cool. everyone knew it was time to rush. pretty good playerbase. most of the time players fulfilled their role

in the right language as well. its a nice touch

I don't know what you're on about. That box art is lit.
btw you can cook the grenade by Pressing the middle mouse button after you left click it, not works on the german one since it only has 1 safety pin
honestly do not think i knew this

Last time i checked its pretty dead but they sometimes have 10-16 players at most though the servers uses bots so its not really that empty imo

had some luck on weekends and fridays, EST afternoon - evenings
There's usually a full EU server for most of the day, and weekends a second or even third server gets populated
