If he has 2-4-4-4 shape, he opens 1D, therefore he must have at least 5 clubs. With that in mind, 3C is probably best unless you want to try do double 2S. I don't like the double of 2S because the opponents could easily have a double fit and be cold Even so, I'd rather double 2S than pass. NOTE: I have not seen the actions taken by Eli yet.
