Cliff had to deal with the complexities and demands of mana whenua and parliament politics of the day. It was agreed with all parties that this was not a whare Tipuna but a house for all people. That would enable flexible tikanga and use of the space as well as the approval and support of mana whenua. I was the Mana Whenua representative working with him. Darcy Nicholas.

I get Sandy in contemporary is the "now" not 20 years ago. It's life forever changing.
My nana Maunga her brother Kima Hakaraia was a master carver in Rotorua and I believe in my wairua Sandy is 1 billion % correct in it all.
Whanau have to be billionaires to use the Pā these days.
I remember my nana use to say if you need to sleep anywhere go to the Pā. But these nga Māori out there that control the Pā are so worried or greedy about electricity cost, sheets being clean the up keep etc.
    Hapu, iwi, whanau.
I left home because of all the inhouse politics. But one day I will come back home and design a meeting house that the ribs will open up to let Matariki shine in and her people can gaze and sleep with the Mana.
