Cow, in the Indian culture, is considered to be a Holy animal. She is worshipped as a maternal figure and is a depiction of the bounty of Mother Earth. Lord Krishna, who grew up as cow herder is often depicted as playing his flute among cows and Gopis (milkmaids) dancing to his tunes. Interestingly, Lord Krishna is also known by the name of 'Govinda' or 'Gopala', which translates to the 'friend and protector of cow'. Hence, cows have an auspicious significance in Indian Culture and religion. Even Lord Shiva's trusted vehicle is Nandi- the sacred bull. Thus, feeding a cow or making contributions for cow shelters is of immense religious importance for Indians. The Vedic scriptures, in various verses, have emphasised the need to protect and care for cows. Cows are a source of life-sustaining milk. Even the cow dung is an essential and energy-efficient source of fuel, especially in rural India. Killing the cow or consuming cow meat is considered to be a sin. Hence, several states in India have banned the slaughter of cows by law. Mother cow is, however, not worshipped as other deities. The religion and culture of India appreciate and expresses its gratitude towards this innocent animal who gives back to mother Earth and its people in more than one form.

The sacred cow status is coming from Indo European religion and not based on economy. The cow were so holy that they were sacrificed to the God but it got replaced by horse because Horse became sacred and the Indo European considered Horse as sacred and offered it's meat to the God instead of cow and ate it as Prasad.
Every one should know that there are cow sacrifices mentioned in ancient Indian texts. 70% of Hindu's were not vegetarian in the Vedic times. Only in the time of Buddhism the Brahmin s started to become vegetarians
1:24 But the cow has more meat 😇 Everyone has the right to choose to benefit from their milk or meat, in the end an animal remains like all animals and has no sanctity more than human souls.

If you think that is cruel but don't find someone respecting an animal for domestication benefits like milk, clarified butter, curd, buttermilk, etc; why do you cringe at the Chinese (generalisation) for eating dogs especially when the only benefit of a dog is accompaniment and maybe a form of defence?
Nice! But please don't forget the many stray cows feeding on garbage, wandering in heavy traffic, badly injured, crippled, left to die a painful death. Develop a garbage segregation scheme and ban disposal of all garbage in the open. If India can fly to the Mars then it can also keep its streets clean of garbage! Develop a pension scheme for cows, so that they don't have to wander for food aimlessly in streets in heavy traffic. People who set out cows should be punished by law. There has to be a law regulating the behaviour with the cow.
this is great but i came here bc i was wondering if there are any records or anything of human-cow interactions pre-domestication? i understand that domestication of animals allows for a society to advance further as their needs for food are pretty much met, so theres more time to develop religion and writing etc. that being said of course records would only come about well after the domestication process but i feel there is more historical context to consider with this interesting example of human-animal coexistence. i hope i made sense and keep up the good work
