Game 6 of 6. Kasparov employs his beloved Sicilian Najdorf and achieves a big advantage after the opening. But then...
Live commentary by Grandmaster Ray Keene.
Now, if I'm not mistaken, Kasparov... is assembling his pawns... yes, into a Mega Chessatron. This isn't looking good for Short.
Wow, this commentator is amazing.
Good clear commentary, plus 2D chessboard visuals, plus sporadic clips of the contenders= fantastic chess experience; yet this was the 80's, and no such experience can be witnessed even on the 2014 matches available on UA-cam.
That was far more exciting than I expected.
The 80s! Weirdnhair. Electric guitars! game shows! lazer lights!... With chess???? We can sit here and complain.. Or appreciate the journey chess has taken in time. This is an amazing clip. Commentator is great.
Lol I love the heavy metal music and bad-ass set for a game of chess. Might as well be Wrestlemania!
I love this commentator
i wish chess was still covered like this :(
Amazing commentary. Nigel Short such a great player.
This is like chess meets Vegas.
Honestly, this commentary and instant board visuals is much better than today's programs with idiot chess wannabe champions giving us lines and variations that spoil the fun of watching two great players battle it out. Do the analysis later and let people enjoy the game especially blitz games.
I started watching this clip at random and thought "Kasparov will win because he is Kasparov". Never give up. Re: commentary, this is from the time when chess was shown on TV (in the UK) and Kasparov was considered a superstar.
Excellent end play by Short, my god. That was beautiful playing.
A truly astounding game, chess now is nothing like chess then, I feel almost envious at the amount of fun they two seemed to be having. This match was truly inspiring.
The commentator's a Grandmaster who was trying to give commentary that was geared toward a television audience, which might contain many people who are not highly familiar with chess. I should know--I have one of his books (The Simon & Schuster Book of Chess, by Grandmaster Raymond Keene). He was trying to explain what was going on at a beginner level, with the goal of making it seem exciting (hoping to increase the popularity of the sport).
I never thought I would get excited over a chess game; this is so EPIC!
Kasparov should've made the Mega Chessatron.
I like how, at about the
Im here sitting on a bus, watching this game. What a battle, and a joy to see this
I remember this fondly. It was the first ever chess match I was even aware of - there was genuine hype I can remember the news had snippets about the match and the public really bought into it. There was an explosion of chess clubs following it. I thought Short did very well all things considered.
