@ammonitida ...why? if that's the case, tell me how many VCS cart silicon do you know are dead? I know estimates say that silicon chips have an age before decay - corrosion of metals for one is an issue - but lifetime of many of these products can be lengthened dramatically with careful storage conditions.
This is a neat little super gun, I really like the compact size of it and it seems to put out a nice image from what I can see in the video. This is something I need to invest in, so that I can troubleshoot and test PCB boards. Just added it to my wish list.
Good timing, was actually looking into getting a Supergun. This thing with shipping costs more than a MV1C and 161-in-1 combined. Shipping's really gone up on a lot of stuff. Might consider this a last resort if nothing else better shows up.
I know what a lot of people watching this are thinking (especially after adding up the cost of all this hardware)... "OR! you can just play it on a Pi". ..and you'd be right, you can do all this on a Pi for a fraction of the cost. This is a project more for people looking for an "excellent-perfect" experience and not just a "good" experience. Not everyone finds the value in that at the extra cost which is a perfectly reasonable stance to take. This project is more for people that want to use actual hardware, they are willing to invest more money for that "Excellent" experience and especially for anyone looking to build a custom MVS cabinet. If you are someone who's going to go through the trouble of building a cabinet that has an Arcade Grade CRT... this is one of the ways you can go... and it's not cheap but it's going to be freaking awesome when you do. As the saying goes... "Cheap isn't good, Good isn't Cheap". This is definitely an enthusiasts passion project. Hopefully the MiSTer Jamma board becomes available to the public soon, and then people will be able to build cabinets with all of the Neo Geo capability, as well as everything else!
Please make a video showing how to connect this to a Capcom CPS2 board (any Street Fighter game) that needs a kick harness! There are no UA-cam videos showing how to connect this supergun to the kick harness port. Thanks!
It would be perfect for MK boards as long as it provides -5v to the PCB. The Horizontal adjustment will help since the sync rate is 53hz which sometimes doesn't center well on certain TVs/Monitors.
Thanks for sharing cant wait to see hopefully cheaper options. I just feel like by now we could have bought a timeharvest box and had a spare neogeo board in case now
Great review!! My unique missing point is how you are connecting the Cbox m2RGBS or SVideo output to your monitor... is there any way to convert it to a HDMI or Displayport? Thanks in advance!!
i ordered a "cbox" on amazon saturn ports didnt work, video output was laggy hot garbage i was v disappointed its a dice roll getting the china junk (home arcade system "HAS" or supergunminigun) are far better options
Got this Super Gun, and it works on most boards, but I unfortunately got it only for Primal Rage, and it’s power supply isn’t enough to power up the board. You’ll need an arcade power supply to get that board running, and I’m not sure how to do that when this SG supplies it own power
I've had other lepow monitors but this one is the first time using it. Doesn't seem bad, but I still like the newer magedok better that I recently reviewed, though I didn't use that one for this video because it wouldn't let me keep the image in 4:3 aspect ratio.
It sounds good, but I find it a big handicap. If I'm not mistaken, when using only one db15 interconnection it is impossible to respect the pinning of the two controls, so the board will have to serialize or polling, adding lag, however little it is. Am I wrong? The nice thing about playing in original mvs, apart from doing it in crt, is not having any inpulag at all...
@@TheKayliedGamerChannel-UA-cam Hmmm let me doubt it. I would have to study the board, but I think it does some kind of reconversion and polling or serialization, it is impossible for it to be 100% direct if it uses a single db15 for interconnection (And some of those internal cables are for audio and video, so two controllers would not fit).
@@repenterepente5043 TRUE or traditional Supergun are straight jamma - so agree this revision with a db15 is inferior - just get a traditional Supergun with a CRT and no lag.... Ok?
That’s pretty cool! I’m assuming Time Harvest must put in some form of a super gun to get the CBox MVS working too?? Did you build this one for the challenge of making it yourself?
I looking for somewhere or someone who could make a plexi on specific cut (as a arcade pannel) with laser engraving. If you know some places. Same to make protective cases to pcb jamma with engraved name on it. I still use few real pcb too,it's a nostalgic fetishist feeling. But more than 3/4 of my games are just roms on pc,raspberry, android now. It's more easy to play directly hyperspin on blast city with friends, without open the arcade, change the pcb, kick harness and all. Also,it's easier to check any 'best of mame' video and download directly any forgotten treasure iso/roms. I discovered much more arcade games after 2000s than during the 90s and I have more pleasure with mame than many recent ps4 games.
May I know how to connect a USB joystick to JAMMA harness? I just have the arcade board without the cabinet and I already found a RGB to VGA converter. Hopefully you can share your experience with me.
The question is...how much is the cost for the total project? I know you have some of the parts listed here but it seems like you're waiting for more. So here's the thing bother my fiancee and I are huge gamers (I hit the lottery with her). She's is into it just as much as I am...depending on the game sometimes more. At current we're building a full sized home arcade with full stand up coin-op cabs and as you know they're not cheap. Maybe I build a few of these and slap them into a bunch of cabs...arcade complete. I'm also looking at getting at least one Retrocade for more polygonal stuff. What do you think man?
I bought one of these last summer don't know if it's the same model I hooked it up to the Pandora's Box and somehow rearrange the buttons on the I haven't messed with it since but really thinking about getting in a neogeo mvs now
I would love to know if this setup would work for MVS 2,4,6 Slot boards (since the JAMMA pinout is slightly different)? If not, how could you attach them to a Supergun like this do you think?
Question - Think I'd be good on a four-slot MVS with a beefier 12.5A 150W adapter? I'm working on a MV4 that won't be able to have a permanent cab for a while.
Why isn't there a Supergun that just has HDMI out? I mean, why mess with sega cables and adaptors and upscale converters... just put it all on the board and output HDMI with auto mixed in.
Well my thought is, is if they did incorporate HDMI it would be akin to a cheap rgb to hdmi scaler and wouldn't provide great results, would have more latency than what most find acceptable. I wouldn't buy a Chinese made Supergun with HDMI out because I know how they'd do it. If it was done by a reputable modder, board designer then I'd have more faith in it, but for someone to do it well it would probably have a significantly higher cost.
It's expensive... thats probably the simplest explanation. To add this, they would have to build in an upscaller or a line doubler, and they would have to design that... it would also put the equipment into a price range even higher than it already is. I would recommend something like a RetroTink2x Pro (or 5x if you can wait for it), a FrameMeister or an OSSC Pro to do this conversion from Analogue to Digital to achieve your goal to get to HDMI without any frames loss (input lag).
@@Mike-B-Jackson I personally like the RAD2x, but I'm unsure if they are still available and they do cost like $60ish when they are. That doesn't require extra power, just an hdmi cable plugged into it. You could also do the Retrotink 2X with component cables, either just male to male component plugged into this box then into the Tink or HD retrovision genesis cables into the MD2 slot then into the Tink. That option you are looking at between $130-200 for what's needed just for the cable and tink 2x. I know the cheaper Genesis model 2 hdmi cables will work, like from Hyperkin, Pound, Level hike, those are like $30 or so, but from everything I've heard they vary in how things look and can have pretty bad latency introduced. Some aren't bothered by it, but if that was an option someone wanted to go with I'd research which provides the best results. Some like those cables as a cheaper starting point until they get more higher end stuff.
10:28 what the hell are you taking about??? Where can you find those neo geo x controles for $60-$70 bucks? I constantly look for neo geo controlled and I haven’t see a single one of them for sale!! They only one I have is the one that I came with my neo geo x and I’d like to buy one more!!
At the time of the recording of this video they were available in plenty of places, even as low as $50. They were all over ebay, aliexpress and amazon. Old stock sitting around type of thing... then people started becoming interested and now if you find them they go for quite a bit more.
I think the "OSSC safe" question is more for SCART which might have a power problem that burns out your OSSC. To what MLP just stated... component doesn't have a problem, but I would say still be weary of using SCART due to the power flowing through the cable.
@@PabstOban I would personally stay away from Scart, but this company has stated their is no longer a issue with using scart through there boards... But I'd still be weary just in case.
Should be fine if using a cable from RGC that has a 470 ohm resistor on the sync line. Don't have a Supergun to confirm this myself, but if I ever do, I might revisit this comment.
