- Jevons made the case that economics, as a science concerned with quantities, is necessarily mathematical. In so doing, it expounded upon the marginal utility theory of value. Jevons, Menger, and Walras marked the opening of a new period in the history of economic thought referred to as the marginal revolution in economics.

Forget Economics. It's a non-issue. My point is why I didn't have teachers like Dr. Taimur in my Pre-University Non-medical/Engg. course to learn science? Samething about economics.
This lecture has appropriate mix of analysis (90%) --and sarcasmic satire (5%) --which has optimum impact. Efficacy is complete. I watched it again and again. If one wished to learn practically on Reification-of-quantification then here is the lecture that best describes it. This man is doing great service to the art of teaching. You know it's extremely hard to teach school kids. He would be best suited to teach kids. If so, then his imputs and mode of expressing (Ghalib's Andaz-e-Bayan / Marx's Mode-of-Presentation) for college/university students is SO EASILY at its peak and stays there. Huge! Huge!

Jevons borrowed "mind" and psychology from Biology but still needed maths to prove that economics is "science"! He was doing scienticism = petty carpentry with science!

Marx anticipated "reification" in the evolving society. He treated it to some extent in Capital Vol.1. Georg Luckacs further developed it. Read his essay "History and Class Consciousness". How "culture" of capital (commodified universe) maddens our mind! Suppresses our consciousness instead of ourselves raising and upgrading it. Capital makes everyone MAD. Keep it away. Keep it away from mind. Jevon's Economics and later Mathematical Economics does the opposite : Keeps you preoccupied with doing dy/dx in endless system of equations. Keep doing! Says Economics. Earn income. Make a career. For yourself. Let society go to heavens! Hell is full.
Marx put an end to the orthodox economics.
Lest anyone else should be captivated by Marx's unorthodox science, Jevons sprang up with mathematical version as saleable option.
Hegel marked the end of classical German philosophy. Marx marked the end of orthodox classical economics.
But once chacha Marx said that"I had taken Hegel dialected and stood it on it's head" so he did lots of work in classical philosophy also
