red velvet is one of the groups where listening to the music and watching the mvs is a TOTALLY different experience, yet both are equally enjoyable.
RV’s tt’s are so good but I would argue that their b sides are the true strength of their discography. Having said that, Bad Boy is just THAT song! It’s so damn good!

red flavor was their first big hit, it's a summer anthem in Korea (red velvet are summer queens) and the mv introduce their oficial fruits in a cute, fun but strange way, you need to watch it 😭

"Bad Boy" is THAT SONG...THAT. SONG. That's all I need to say. ALSO THERE'S AN ENGLISH VERSION AND IT'S SPICY. "Peek-A-Boo" and onward is where you REALLY see the fusion of their red and velvet concepts, although they still drop tracks that are separate in concept. "Bad Boy" is definitely more velvet but there's little "red" flares in it. Once you get to "Really Bad Boy" it's kind of the opposite in the sense that it is more red vibed but its got some R&B vocal tones that pull the velvet side in with it. BAD BOY AND PSYCHO ERA WENDY ARE MY FAVORITE STYLES OH MY GOD I CANNOT HANDLE HER HAIR AND CONTACTS AND JUST AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Also Peek-A-Boo and Bad Boy gave us the induction of "Murder bang Seulgi" and like...She needs to wear that shit ALL THE TIME..
"Russian Roulette" era had a lot of incredible songs, "Bad Dracula" and "Lucky Girl" are my top two B-sides from that era. YERI RED HAIR ERA'S ARE JUST...AHHHHHHHHHHHH. Red Velvet has tables or they're sitting circled around SOMETHING in every MV almost.
"Rookie" was that HYPER DIVISIVE song...And I could NOT stand it at first if I'm honest. The more I began understanding Red Velvet's sound though, it grew on me. LOL For some reason I feel like I knew Kess would catch what sounded like "Nookie Nookie." LOL. "Matji, matji, geu neukkimjeogin neukkim, neukkim" is the line you caught. "Neukkim" I think translates to something like "My feelings for you are starting to show/come out." Joy's face she makes at the exploding wardrobe towards the end is HYSTERICAL. Iconic as fuck. Also parts of the set are moving and parts of them are CG editing movement. Flowerguy is a costume, and I SINCERELY thought it was Hitchhiker (DJ signed to SM Entertainment) for a hot minute.
So Red Velvet's storyline is SUPER DEEP AND COMPLEX and the best way that I can describe it (From the way that I have comprehended it, so...Reveluv's who know it better than I do don't come for me): They are all under Irene's mind control, which is kind of denoted by Irene's ending poses sometimes being different from the rest of the girls. Every time one of the members starts to realize it and try to fight against it she either kills them or something happens to bring them all back under her control (idk if kill is accurate but...SOME SHIT GOES DOWN.) That's why a lot of their videos are trippy AF. Zimzalabim is a perfect example: the rollercoaster scene around Irene's head. Irene puppeting the girls and focusing on something entirely different through the whole of the "Rookie" MV is also a good indicator.
Yeah but in the English version of Bad Boy they changed Irene's opener for some godforsaken reason.
In a way I envy you getting to discover RV for the first time. I’ve played every song so much, even from the birthday album, if I know the name of their song, I can hear it in my head right away.
SAME ! I wish I could unheard it all and hear them again especially the Velvet songs. The Red releases took me at least 2 listens to get into fully and Bop to them, so I'd like to keep them as it is :D

Bad boy is such a great song they even made it in English, i remember when everyone knew the song when they came to the U.S , it was the best time of my life watching them live, that's why bad boy is my number 1 song from Red velvet plus other songs either from the b-sides or Main tittle tracks , i love Red velvet, SM might not be the best label but they know how to make really amazing music,

I must say, RV is one of the girl groups with the strongest vocal line to be honest. If you listen to their B-sides, you will be amazed because all their B-sides are wild... I clicked so fast when I saw the notification, y'all I've been waiting for you guys to check these out (I wasn't expecting for y'all to check out Bad Boy yet but pop off)- dude Russian Roulette was INSANE when I first saw it my jaw dropped because of how iconic it was but also the way they were trying kill each other (they also really love killing men which again iconic) and their looks were great, I was going to have another guide but you guys kind of figured them out already which is great. Dude Rookie was not my favorite I mean it still isn't but it DEFINITELY grew on me and yeah it sounds like they're saying Lookie and Nookie but it's fine- 🤣😂

RV mvs u can say it has the Alice in Wonderland vibe . Quirky,weird, etc. RV will always gave u something diff, but everytime u listen to it, u straight to know it was RV , it has the RV sound in it.

This is like a compilation of notable moments of their vlive, iglive, and level up project special live. One episode shows the highlights of that certain live so one episode is a compilation per live that they do. The 1-3 episodes are more like about their reality project but trust me. AS THE EPISODE PROGRESSES, SO AS THE CONTENT. hope you can do this after you finish the mvs and their bsides. This is actually a gem to thefandom. 2017's Rookie was when a lot of Luvies learned the word "kitsch". I remember an early reaction pointed to one of the tops in the video that says "tacky" on it, but they're wearing expensive designer threads in this MV lol. Well, and the usual Frankenstein's mishmash of fabrics.
Tbh, I don't think Red Velvet care too much about rapping; they just rap if they have to. Singing is their main focus.

If u remember the "Vivi trend" it's a tiktok trend that went viral after a video of a member from Loona named Vivi was dancing to Red Velvet's Russian Roulette, but instead of Russian Roulette the audio was changed into a tiktok audio, it was so funny because tiktokers who said kpop was trash was basically dancing to a choreo made by a kpop group 😂

I think they rap less in their title tracks and the rappers have shifted from irene & joy (in ice cream cake) to mostly irene & yeri. Joy still raps in some b tracks though, and the other members have a bit of rap lines in recent songs. I also like yeri's voice. The more you listen to b-sides and color-coded lyric videos the more you appreciate each member's unique tone. And of course wendy!!! my fav girl

You might recognize the Russian Roulette dance from the TikTok trend called “the Vivi trend”. Loona member Vivi did the dance, and then it became a TikTok trend
So, they still rap. It may have actually been increasing a bit in the last year, but also - rap is not a focus of Red Velvet at all. They definitely have songs with no rap in them as well. Definitely a vocals heavy group :)

In Russian Roulette, they started killing each other from the start of the MV. Wendy was trying to burn Seulgi. You just get misdirected by the cheerful colors, fun song, and lovely visuals.
They have Bad Boy english version. Wendy and Yeri helped writing the lyrics. You should listen to that as well. It is soooo good.
I would like to suggest the ultimate subunit of MAMAMOO. Solar & Moonbyul that made a cover named “Promise U” which was an external producer / studio who “hired” them to make the cover.

Rookie: Seulgi and Joy had to change their hair to black (and Joy had to cut it) for the promotions, because in RR they had rlly damaging hair colors, and they had to paint again for Rookie, so their hair couldn't hadle it. Maybe that's why Joy looked so annoyed performing Rookie.
