Not Joytoy's fault, but a helm should have been an option. I agree that there's not enough depth and variety to the paint job. The 30K Imperial Fists actually look better and more detailed than the primarch. Overall it looks great, but not great enough to overcome the defenses of my wallet. 🙂
For a Black Templar collector I am on the fence on this fig. Even though he looks cool for some reason he doesnt catxh my eye like the Lion. Im not sure what it is. Im leaning on getting Sigismund to be the center of my BT's and grab a couple of Deathwing Terminators to add to join the Lion, Azrael and Lazerus. As always keep up the great work
Much like the Lion, fresh out of the box Dorn's legs aren't quite "all the way up into where the socket would be": the joint you noted as you were spinning the legs around itself moves up and down, so you can get the legs spread out even wider than you normally could for stuff like sitting poses, by effectively moving them out of the way of the conflicting geometry of the pelvis. Pushing upwards will eliminate that visible "gap".
The only thing I would really like with this Horus Heresy release is for them to add armor helmets. Yes it's cool to see their faces but I really like to see the full armor. Beyond that detail, everything is great! incredible review
I agree with you bother Sprues, it is a very nice ane cool figure but it lacks detail and a finer paint job. It is a figure for imperial fist fans. Thank you for a complete review Master Chapter Sprues!!
I’m so on the fence. Would a very lite wash fix the problem? Maybe a tiny bit of dry brushing on the tips of some of the armor? I’ve never tried it on a finished figure
As for painting I agree, but in my opinion looks a bit better, then in photos. What is disappointing it’s ugly seams on legs and arms armor. Just realised, that other figures don’t have plain plates on these elements and no seams by design.
The figure of Dorn is significantly larger than either Guilliman or The Lion. Within the lore it's very dubious as to how accurate this is. We can only hope Joytoy got some sort of official word on their heights relative to each other so that these figures are accurate. I have The Lion and Dorn figures and I'm wondering if I should get Guilliman.
Totally agree with your review. I got mine the other day. He looks more fitting with the Custodes I have than with regular Iron Fists. Of the 3 primarchs released, Dorn is definitely not on equal footing in design as the other two. I feel Joytoy is pushing to hard and fast on pumping out figures now and design and quality are straining cause of it.😏but I am still collecting for my armies 😅lol
Though he had a golden/brass armor which made him look like a honorary custodian in reality (with all the lightning symbols at that) the paint job is not that good. I agree.
Yeah, the only thing this figure set a precedent for was a nice glossy gold. Hope they do a refresh of the Custodes with this look but keep the level of shading and highlights they currently have. The shiny boys just aren’t shiny enough (still look good though) currently
They need to release Primarch figures for all the Horus Heresy Primarch models. As heretical as it is to say, a Horus ascendant figure would be insane. And a Sanguinius figure to go with it. Can't wait for them to get to other legions for the Horus Heresy line. Those models have way more detail and flair to them than the current 40k models. The 30k Imperial fists look amazing, so, like I imagine you are, I'm really looking forward to Blood Angel figures to stand with their glorious hawk-boy father.
@@joeschmoe5608 The same thing happened with pretty much all the other currently released Joytoy Primarchs. They will still be available after the pre-order period. All the other Primarchs are still available, so I see no reason that Horus will be any different besides the fact he is bigger and honestly looks better than all the other Primarchs. As heretical as that is to say. But Horus definitely lived up to my imagination, Joytoy really outdid themselves with him.
@@hotsauce8780 I'm definitely getting any and all Primarch figures they release. Even Lorgar. I hope they make daemon Primarch figures at some point, as expensive and huge they would be. But Joytoy is making an Imperial Knight, so it sounds a lot more possible now than when Joytoy first started making 40k figures.
@@lunardeathblade2570 yeah, I’m no Heretic…but Horus is a must buy for me as a lore person! Gotta resist though because if they don’t do ALL the Primarchs of the Heresy, it’s gonna irk my OCD haha
great video bro. Question , I want to start collecting joytoy 40K figures, but I keep seeing videos wheret= these toys have problems (broken joints, bent plastic. etc) do you face these issues
I chose not to get this because this is the first headsculpt that i think they missed on. looks like the paint apps aren't quite where they should be either. there is some minor detailing they could have done to make some of the gold stand out more. i dunno maybe if he goes on sale. just not for me.
@@flameconvoy7424 It is shocking how bad the paintjob is compared to the Roboute figure. Roboute looks WAY better. It definitely looks like Joytoy is pumping these toys at a way faster rate than before so they arent as good as previous figures. Shading could be easily done with nuln oil. But again, you are paying for someone else to do the shading for you lol
I was very tempted to getting this guy, however after watching this review, I prob might not. Mostly due to the cape being static which restricts certain poses (which makes me wish he came with an alternate cape piece)and the fact he doesn't come with an alternate helmeted head. I also realized, he doesn't even come with alternate hands 😂😂😂 Overall thank you for saving my wallet 😂😂😂 I appreciate it!
As an action figure, no doubt he is good. It is a shame that coming from the lion’s amazing armor with all the highlighting and sufficient shading, we get a shiny gold armor for doen but can’t see much of the details. Maybe joytoy does know their target audience and knows that people will just paint him as they see fit. Idk, even the IF space marines seem to have the same issue as I have seen in some of the new pictures
i dont know with this one, yes its a primarch as figure -wich is great but compared to the other two he takes third pace easy, no shadings uses, very plasticy toy like look and feel and the price is very high compared to what you get and what you got with the lion.
also some very visible plastic moulding seem edges that look almost un-deburred & relatively large parts gap lines (I think the semi gloss metalic paint helps show them more than Lion El'Johnson's), before assembly and thinner looking painting at the factory (the Bolters grip/handle is totally square edged (not rounded at all!!) ...and the 'ivory; paint is chipping in places already!), all make Rogal Dorn look cheaper in design effort, production & finish, than the other 2 Primarch models/figurines, even though there is some fantastic detailing, ...but that's left without shades of subltler contrasting tones or shades of lighter or darker hues - no black to dark, to pale charcoal or yellow to contrast with the gold to off-white, to lighter silvers etc or a rare red just occasionally here and there to edge around as a dark/shader-highlight some iconographies to make them visually clearer.
Awesome review! On a side note, I just created this account because my gmail account was hacked and all my subscriptions were on it, how do you contact gmail or youtube to create a support ticket, thx if you know and sorry to ask here but I'm hoping you know.

The head sculpt just reminds me of Gordon Ramsey and now I cant stop thinking of Royal Dorn screaming RAW while he defends Terra.

We should paint him and add some shading on the EPIC GOLD ARMOR
A little more shading would have been better but it looks great anyway.

i believe they are going pretty straight off of the original models, and GW may not let them get too creative depending on the contract.
Can't wait to get him I hope If he ever returned to the setting I hope he wears his grandfathers coat as part of his armor.
This is the gold that I wanna see Custodes in. No shading whatsoever, just the shine and lustre of Auramite.
The pillarstodes
dorn is 90 $ in my country that including the transport

What a gorgeous figure, i can't wait to see Horus himself.
Some storm host silver dry brushing and Reikland flesh shade over the gold armour would make him a lot better

Ornament of hand 😂
Subpar paintjob. It makes this figure look super cheap. Like a counterfeit toy being sold out of a travel suitcase off Canal street in NYC

Don't think its in the same quality of the other two primarchs. The price is way to high too.

Joytoy where is the decent paint job? I won't spend money on this
the paintjobs get worse and worse
What chapter symbol the legion symbol
And how about a hight comparison between hima and his two brothers ?
