    Wow. This is when I realise that my lack of foreign language skills really did hold me back in later life

      The typical Dane can read and understand Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, German and read/write/speak Danish/English and often German and/or French, although often with a heavy Danish recognisable accent. I am in my fifties but when I attended basic public school, In Denmark going from 1st to 9th or 10th grade we in 3rd and 4th grade read an entire book in both Swedish and Norwegian by authors from those nations. We also listened to TV programs and radio. Then English were standard in language hours from 5th grade. I believe it today are from 3rd grade. In 6th grade we had 1 year with German with possibility to choose French as selfchoosen extra. Both German and French could be elected each following year. Not so many speak Danish so it is a good idea to develop language skills. The more language you get familiarised with the easier it gets since most languages have many similarities and many words derived from same base. 15 years ago I. just for fun, took Cambridge university´s 1 day compressed language tests, 5 in all, and one of the results I got were that I had a 15.000 to 25.000 English word capacity above that of the average Brit. Being born in an English speaking country gives you many advantages but only if you substitute your learning time with other areas to learn/excel in.
      If Russians learned more English then maybe the "dictator of the generation" might have had a harder time getting successfully away with ordering Russians to kill own family and friends.
      It is BTW NEVER to late to learn another language. What is holding you back? YOU are the master of YOU. Go for it, if you think it will please you! Maybe curiosity killed the cat but learning a new language wont kill you, just enrich you.

    Are those paintings 🖼 real

    • @Mike-zx1kx
      @Mike-zx1kx 2 роки тому +4

      Yes. Denmark have a long painting tradition and it is "part of the job" as PM and foreign minister in Denmark to be painted. The PM CAN choose the painter, if they like, but have no influence on the result. The painting after belongs to the Danish state and the paintings you see behind them are former Danish PM´s and/or Kings. I believe foreigners visiting Denmark can pre book a tour of Christiansborg, as the building our parliament are in are called, and then you can see as many paintings, spanning many centuries, as any top museum can muster. Few tourists know about this possibility, because you have to do it in advance in order to become security cleared for the tour, but I have recommended this to foreign friends visiting Denmark and all of them have been very happy about the time spent and the information's received/gained.
