Ah, Robin Hood's Bay, I remember it well, from when I was about 16, some 45 years ago, and decided to cycle there from my then home in grim Middlesbrough (much removed from my present-day home in Greece!). A three-speed bike. Its brakes were full on as it sped uncontrollably down the lane to Robin Hood's Bay, and I was convinced I was in for a dipping in the sea. Happy days!
I’ve done this journey many times in a car. I didn’t appreciate how interesting and beautiful it was. There were some great views of the North Sea coast. Thank you.
Hiya, before the arrival of our daughter 16 years ago. My wife and I would on an occasional, drive from Leeds up to Saltburn-by-Sea on a Sunday. We would initially stop short of Saltburn at supposedly the smallest church in England in Upleatham to lay flowers for my Auntie. Then we would have a lovely leisurely drive down from Saltburn/Skelton through Whitby, Sandsend, Scarborough and finally to Bridlington. We would park on the promenade and eat Fish n Chips in the car. Then it would be the trek home back to Leeds. Our Saltburn to Bridlington journeys made so many lovely memories and this bus trip of yours brought them all back to the fore. So thank you for that and I wish you many more happy travels. Rob.
Another cloyingly nostalgic trip for me. Not so much the specific location, but England. I ask myself many times what if I had not left England in 1975 (for Greece and ultimately Australia). I loved the bus ride. I like all your bus rides, Mark. Just down to earth and honest. Makes me long for the UK again ... :-) Onyer m8! Paul in Oz.
😊lol Mark you should have stopped over night in Whitby what a magical place it is ⭐ had lots of hols there not a bad price for the bus now you can get your train to your next destination all the best John 😊
Look liked u were enjoying your self rocking on bus seat 😊 nice videos that one that goes all the front at Scarborough a good route see the sea all the way along 👍
Have you ever tried out the 50 Breezer bus service between Bournemouth & Swanage before? It’s an open top bus similar to the one you took around the Isle Of Wight. It follows the coast and takes a short shuttle ferry that is pathed into it’s schedule which is a really unique feature. I’m going to try it out tomorrow
Hi Mark. Another of your Well filmed videos and as ever your cheery and at times amusing commentary. Excellent as always. Take care and have a good week.
Another great review! Service X94 is a summer season service that operates until the end of October every year. The allocation is for the Volvo B7TL/ALX400s, although typically it ranges between a Pulsar 2, Wright StreetLite or Wright Gemini 2 on the route.
Was only sat on that long bench at Scarborough railway station a few days ago. Although it dates from 1883, a lot of work was done in 2020 replacing the wood etc, so how original it really is, is debatable - akin to Trigger's Broom 😂😂
Peter, I caught the train from there the next day and I didn't realise until I was researching the video afterwards. Otherwise I would've made a special effort to sit on it!
@@LetsMakeaTrip I only used it as had walked all the way up the long platform to photograph the redundant signalbox, only to find that the far end of platform was coned off, so I needed a rest on the way back 🙈😂 Was a complicated trip using a day trip on the coach from Lincolnshire, then on the Yorkshire Coastliner bus to Scarbrough, and all to ride behind one of Transpennine Express class 68 worked Novas back to York before they finish in December. Glad I did it, but at times it resembled one of Scott's transport challenges on Planes, Trains, and Everything 😂
Yes, I know that route well and I have even done it with the sun shining! A pity you couldn't have dropped in at the iconic Scarborough Cricket Ground!
Yep, similar to my 840 trip and this was just an extension to that after being in Whitby for a bit it made sense to pay just another £2 as I was staying in Scarborough that night. Cheers mate 😊👍
Class video mark. I’m glad you finally got round to doing this trip, I love Whitby , not so keen on the bus ride to Scarborough though especially when the bus becomes packed 😂😂
Cheers Jack, yep it was an extension to my 840 ride from Leeds really I just hadn’t released the video yet. Liked both towns and the bus, yep, surprisingly quiet I thought.
@@LetsMakeaTrip I went during the end of covid and the bus was packed, no seats left spare , standing room only in the end. Whereas back in Liverpool some seats taped off, masks required and no standing 😂
on one really hot day in July, we caught train from Sheffield to Leeds, Bus over to Whitby, then down to Scarborough, next bus onto Bridlington and train home. Unfortunately for this leg we only had a single decker, but it was still great views,
A journey noto to be done when there's a strong East wind bringing a mass of sea fret onto the coast! Since the Whitby-Scarborough bus - even in this day and age - still has a frequent service (up to every half hour the bus said), you'd have thought that there would really have been enough passengers to keep the rail line open!
hey mate great video. Sorry about being offline for a while. Because one of my devices decided to stop charging so i used a different one but as always cheers mate 😁👍
Sounded Danish to me, Once said to a Danish work colleagues that Swedish & Danish languages were more or less the same, I then received a 20-minute lecture in Danish history And on the last day they were with us they brought in Danish Cakes that they'd baked, No surprises who didn't get one.😢

Whitby is my favorite seaside town and although the route is steep it's very scenic.
I liked Whitby, need to stay longer next time 👍
Another super trip and these £2 tickets are incredible value. I trust you’re making the most of them. 😊
Cheers Tim, I'm trying to (goes up in October to £2.50!!).

Cheers Rob - a lovely comment and I'm glad it brought back some good memories. It makes doing these videos worthwhile.
When you were holding the hand rail thought you were on a roller coaster, looks a nice journey never dine whitby or Scarborough
Great watch to take you back to the Yorkshire Coast thanks

A double decker bus on country side roads is always fun 😮
Agreed 👍
02:53 Oops, almost ... 😄
Cheers for a great trip, though!
Cheers mate, thanks for the comment 😊👍
This vehicle is a former Arriva London red bus. I used to drive it.
Brilliant video I did this journey myself a few weeks ago but in the other direction I had a Signal Decker on it

It's a shame the sun wasn't out asthe views would look beautiful, lovely bus ride xx
Yes it would've been lovely to have had some sun. Never mind, still a nice ride I agree.

The old station at Hawsker is now a bike hire place and the 2 old carriages is where they store the bikes.
Ah, thanks Mason 👍

Cheers CTP - appreciate your input on this. I did wonder if I got lucky with the double-decker on this route or not. Great views from it though 👍
StreetLite 🤢? How often does it run? "Up to" every 30 minutes. Even if it's every hour I think I'd wait for the next one
I remember driving some of that route in my car. I did not stop in Scarborough thouogh
It’s a pretty varied few miles between the two towns.
My home town is whitby. I currently live in Darlington and I am a bus driver there. You should come and try Darlington to Tow Law
Hi, thanks for the comment (and route recommendation). Next time I’m in that part of the world I’ll give it some thought, cheers 😊👍
Love this route 👍
I love the bus livery. See you had some chatty company. I'm sure it kept your journey interesting.
Cheers Gareth, yep glad I had someone who knew the area too 👍

Always a good view from top deck front window. The no.36 from Harrogate to Ripon was a nice bus to travel on.
I'll make a note of that route, cheers.

That ALX400 is Ex Arriva London
That bus journey at £2 is cheaper than it was 10 years ago. Bus in better condition too, was always breaking down or being cancelled.
Thanks to the current £2 fare cap on buses Jane. A pretty good bus too.
Sponsored by Montane. 😂 I’m only kidding Mark, love the videos as always mate
Lol, cheers mate. I need some new gear actually if any companies are watching 😂
I went to Scarborough in 2019 on an 843 Coastliner bus from York and return. It was a good trip itself, but I may need to try the X94 or X93

I was surprised to hear Swedish spoken at 1:33. So were you apparently. :) (yes, I'm from Sweden).
Ah Swedish! Thanks very much 😊👍
If the bus was a 55 plate (c. 2006) I doubt it was the pride of the fleet!
They sound like they are from South Bank Middlesbrough.

where the seagull stole my sausage roll! lol
The whole lot!?!
aye. It came up from behind and just nicked it.
Great but slightly weird as I was in Scarborough and Whitby on 15th and 16th.
Cheers mate, I hope you used the bus?
From what I understand, most the services on this route are single decker buses. That bus you got on is a one off.
Excellent then in that case I did ok by the sounds of it 😊👍
@@LetsMakeaTrip The two routes often use double deckers, certainly not a “one-off” to travel on such.
