My Long (but Rewarding) Scenic Ride on the Coastliner 840 Bus from Leeds to Whitby.

- Опубліковано 19 лип 2024
- Hello everyone! Thanks for joining me again as I take one of the longest bus rides in Britain (let me know if there are any others you would recommend). I'm going all the way from Leeds across to Whitby on the east coast of England on a three-and-a-half hour, 84 mile trip on the top deck of the Coastliner 840 bus!
On this epic journey, I'll show you the interior of the bus, some fantastic scenery and I'll tell you how much I paid. And here's a thing - it was a total bargain at the time of recording!
Many thanks as always guys for taking the time to watch my videos. All likes, comments, subs are massively appreciated and it really encourages me to carry on making more content for you all to enjoy.
Cheers for now.
Mark

The return route was even longer in the late 1990s when single decker buses were used as the 840 diverted across from Malton to Castle Howard and through the arches. The departure from Whitby at the time was 14.50 to arrive at Leeds at 18.20.
As a regular Coastliner customer between Tadcaster and York its nice to see the Coastliner getting a good airing . Its a fantastic fantastic service around the Yorkshire area. Just by way of a little bit of extra info they tell me that the drivers will drop you off anywhere and pick you up anywhere i.e. not necessarily at a bus stop if you do like walking but please enquire first
The X98-X99 Leeds to wetherby is fantastic bus!!
Cheers Graham, added to the list 👍
Living in York you were in my sort of stamping ground but also Whitby as I work as a volunteer on the North Yorks Moors Railway. Ill be on duty and in Whitby on Saturday. If you want to see the moors from a different perspective take a trip from Pickering to Whitby on our heritage steam railway. I don't think you would be disappointed
You’re absolutely right…travel is the adventure. A cracking watch.
Cheers mate, lots more of these adventures to come I hope (for both of us)!
Wow! - You've just brought back some super memories of when I was a young airman stationed at RAF Fylingdales in the late 1960's. On weekend leave I flagged down this bus at the end of the approach drive for the journey to Leeds and then by train to Bradford. As I remember in those days it was a Single Decker and seemed to run whatever the weather!
Cheers Norman - I bet it can be pretty bleak up there in the winter!
Absolutely stunning journey mate, what a bargain!!!
Cheers Steve. Yep, I don’t mind paying whatever the ‘normal’ price is but you can’t go wrong for £2!
I'm heading to Whitby in the summer and even though I can catch the train I've been tempted to take this route as sometimes the journey itself can be as relaxing/enjoyable as being there.
Exactly Suz, just relax on the bus and enjoy the views - part of the holiday I think 😊👍
The train routes are also brilliant. Along the secluded Esk Valley from Battersby and Middlesbrough, or the North Yorkshire Moors steam railway from Maldon. And the bus routes along the coast to Scarborough or Saltburn also look potentially scenic. The idea of basing oneself in Whitby and doing some circular trips feels very appealing!
That looks brilliant. Travel for the scenery and the relaxing pleasure of the journey.
It shouldn't always be about rushing to a destination and stressing about red lights and traffic jams.
Chill out and enjoy the ride. I will definitely try to take these English bus trips when I have sufficient time off work. Loved it. 👍🙂
Cheers Neil, yep, Try and do some before end of June as I doubt the £2 subsidy will go past that.
Loved it I used to live in it's namesake Whitby Ontario very different 100k people but right on Lake Ontario. Great video thanks really enjoy your work makes me homesick 😢.
Brought back lovely memories of riding on the Coastliner with my late Grandad. We used to go on so many bus adventures in the school holidays
Thanks Rachel, appreciate the comment and glad it brought back some good memories 😊👍
How fantastic. I ride all these roads on my Motorcycle through the Summers with friends. Thanks you for sharing.
Steve.
Cheers Steve, great scenery up there isn’t it. I’m sure you have a fantastic time!
I used to catch the Coastliner to work between York and Malton every day for 6 months in the 1990s when I had no car for a while. Great bus service.
I can think of worse commutes! Cheers Iain 😊
Just found your channel, very enjoyable. Now retired from bus driving so will try a few of your suggestions. I trust you can use a pensioners pass on these routes, but if not, cant complain at £2 maximum. Look forward to catching up with more trips from you.
Cheers Keith. I would imagine you can use a pass yes. Well, I’ll let you know myself in a few years! Thanks for the comment 😊
@@LetsMakeaTrip why got your coat on
Thank you, I'm from Leeds and knew of this service but not that it was this comfortable, chilled and well priced with such beautiful views along the way 💯👍
Cheers Dale, yep and for £2 atm, you really can’t go wrong. 👍
Really enjoyed your video (viewed in Australia). Looks like a great bus route.
Cheers Adrian. One day, I’ll make it over there and film a few Australian buses! One day 😊
Know the area well most beautiful place 😉👍🇬🇧 really enjoyed your video . thank you 🇬🇧.
Pleasure Janine, thanks very much for leaving a comment 😊👍
Thanks. Always enjoy your videos 👍
Thanks John, very much appreciated sir!
Another of those routes which can be a scenic circular trip by bus in one direction and train (the North York Moors Railway) in the other. Totally different outlook as the train goes through the valley and the bus is on top of the moors, extra good views from a double decker!
Great video, we used the service between Malton and Goathland as the last leg of a journey from Poole by train to meet up with friends for a birthday celebration a few years ago, complete with dog! sadly we didn't have your weather, it chucked it down! We stayed at the Goathland Hotel aka Aidenfield Arms!
Nearer to home you might want to think about some of the TrawsCymru routes, we've done Wrexham-Dolgellau and Caernarfon-Porthmadog
Cheers Kevin. Yes I keep meaning to do the Traws Cymru Wrexham - Barmouth route. Some great scenery on that one - watch this space! 😊
I’ve driven this route several times. Thank you for a lovely trip x
Thanks for the comment Margaret. Appreciated 😊👍
It's a long journey without a loo! However, I used to work for Traveline in Leeds and we were told that facilities were available for passengers to use at Malton, where the bus had a short break. Talking about other scenic routes, the 555 from Lancaster to Keswick is pretty famous and worth a look at if you haven't already done so. If you have a day or two in Keswick, you could have a look at the 77/77a Buttermere circulars which run from about April to October.
One of my favourite trips on the bus, the vehicles and drivers are superb and the views stunning. Having a bus journey of over an hour to and from Leeds in addition to this trip meant I did ache a lot through stiffness but I overcame this by a pleasant drive to Tadcaster in my car and caught the bus from there. I have a pensioners bus pass which gives me free travel but can only use after 9:30, so this approach makes better use of the day. I agree that the new Witchway buses from Burnley are in a different class to almost any other bus on the road, I respect Transdev for investing in high quality vehicles and it upsets me when a small minority of passengers go out of their way to spoil the experience for others by leaving rubbish, bottles and cans on the floor and seats, makes you wonder what they live like at home.
3 cheers buses lives matter
Years or decades ago in the early years of Coastliner (using coaches and assorted vehicles) there was always time at Malton for passengers to go to the toilet, as they either changed drivers there or at least gave the driver a short break. Unless a toilet stop is guaranteed, I think many people would be unable to make the complete journey from Leeds. Fantastic scenery of course! I do miss the 'golf balls' - pyramids are not the same!
I miss the golf balls too, they were a mark on the landscape!
Yes, looks like a massive tumble dryer these days!
Current timetable shows 5-min break at Malton.
My family used to take that bus into Whitby from Leeds in the early 2000s, it never seemed to take that long, probably because of how beautiful it was coming over the moors.
I'm not sure if still does, but when we did it, the bus stopped for about 10-15 minutes in Malton allowing a quick loo break.
I,m from Leeds myself now live in Scotland …I used to own a little 125 Honda scooter and most days off I’d fill it up and ride over to Whitby what a lovely run over the moors …then down the coast road to scabby fill up with petrol then back home ….for day out for about £7 in petrol plus fish n chips …happy days makes me want ti do it again. Looking fwd to your next adventure ATB Coops 👍🏻
Did the Coastliner back in June 2021 at the tail end of the 'Covid restrictions' period.
Seem to recall that at this point there wasn't a through service from Leeds to Whitby. Remember going on a through service from Leeds to Scarborough, catching a separate bus from there to Whitby and then doing Whitby back to Leeds via Malton.
Pretty sure I was the only passenger who went all the way from Leeds to Scarborough on that trip too.
Been to Whitby from Skipton on my bike a couple of times many years ago. Must try it on the coastliner soon. Travelled on the X43 to Manchester many times. Back in the 60s it ran from Skipton to Manchester. Thanks for the video, happy bus riding.
Thanks Michael, yes try and get on the Coastliner before end of June for the £2 special price!
No toilet on board, but when I did the journey in Feb this year, I asked the driver and he let me and a couple of other passengers get off for a pee in Malton bus station.
Yes I’m sure that’s a common request on this route. Cheers Tony 😊👍
The bus stops in Malton for about 10 minutes anyway
Toured the moors on coach from school 65years ago. Not changed!
Cheers Melvyn 👍
I was staying in York with family and we did the trip from there to Scarborough and then on to Whitby, a marvellous day out with stunning views a and a great lunch at a pub as i recall,Thank you so much for bringing back some wonderful memories of a trip I do hope to do again one day.Until next time stay safe and cheers.
Cheers Simon. I did take the bus from Whitby down to Scarborough afterwards and agree, that’s also a nice route 👍
Have travelled on that front upstairs seat too with my grandaughter, what a great ride!! Will add if you turn up in a weekend morning in the summer you can meet a very long queue of pensioners off to the coast on their bus passes...and..not even get on the bus ! Luckily they seem to put extra ones on !
Yes I’ve been trying to do these trips at ‘quiet times’ here possible. I can imagine it gets very busy!
Great journey! Thanks for taking us along 🚌 🇬🇧
No probs Kimberly. Thanks for the comment 😊👍
Fantastic video Mark I enjoyed watching well done with the weather on the Moors
Cheers Jack. Yep, the weather could’ve been a lot worse!
That's a long bus ride. Really great views across the moor. James herriot country mixed in with a bit of heartbeat. Very enjoyable video 😊
Thanks Neil! I enjoyed it - especially the last hour or so. Fantastic scenery 😊👍
Wow, this bus route is firmly on my bucket list. fabulous run.
It was! Cheers Walter 😊👍
Another great video, Mark - I’ve never been to the area before, but now it’s on my list. Loved the music and was half expecting an “over the moors” Smith reference.
Keep up the good work!
Cheers Dave, yep nice area, I think the Smiths thing is from the Hindley murders but I can’t be sure which moors they’re referring to.
Great trip Mark we are regular visitors to Goathland we really enjoy all your trips.
Cheers Tony - it was my first time tbh but it looked lovely. Thanks for watching my stuff, appreciate the support 😊👍
Thank you for this wonderful post. Our youngest son lives in York but we are yet to get to Whitby! This has encouraged me to jump on that 840 next time we are in York (we live down south) and being of a certain age, the bus would be free! I was surprised to see how empty the bus was for some reason I thought it would be very busy. Happy travels.
Thank you sir, I’m glad it inspires people to do it. I’ve a few years to go for my free travel yet (probably move to Wales tbh) but £2 is a bargain and I believe normal price (around £15?) would still be ok imo 😊👍
I did that 2 weeks ago but just from Thornton le Dale to Whitby which happens to be the nice section.I was lucky I got to Thornton le Dale expecting a 1 and a half hour wait for the bus but as I sat near the bus stop eating my jacket potato the 11:38 came in running 50 minutes late,a pleasant surprise and people always moan but never say anything when a delay works in your favour! The last time I did that trip was in about 1984 when it was run by the main north east National Bus Company subsidiary, United, and it only went as far as Malton.
Thornton-Le-Dale looked a lovely place Kevan. And yes, that part of the journey over to Whitby is the essential bit really isn’t it 👍
For a really scenic ride try the B3 Bronte bus running between Hebden Bridge and Keighley, its like a trip over the Alps, its wonderful. Have also done the coastliner to Scarborough, it is a good trip but the B3 is breathtaking !
Thanks mm, I’ve had that recommended to me before so yep, I’ll try my best to get up there 😊👍
If you're quick The Flying Scotsman is on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway at the moment. And it pretty much runs along half of the B3 route between Keighley and Oxenhope.
Totally agree that the B3 Brontë bus journey is scenic and breathtaking. I took the journey earlier this year and it was brilliant.
I also thoroughly recommend the bus roundtrip on the K14 from Keighley to Oxenhope and back to Keighley. Stunning countryside, narrow roads, steep inclines and descents, and twisty roads. The bus is one of those shophoppa type buses - totally fab! 😊
You can do it all in one day - just get the West Yorkshire bus day ticket for £4.50 (on any West Yorkshire bus) and zoom around to your heart's content!
@@dcw7238 I work in one of the old mills on the K14 route, it's a cracking route.
WOW best Bus and for a 3 and a half hour journey for just 2 quid can't go wrong see you soon
Cheers Caleb 😊👍
Brilliant video. I made the trip & return to Leeds in 2019. Thank you.
Cheers mate, thanks for the kind words 😊👍
A little note about the toilets in Leeds Bus Station. As the station is open 24 hours a day, and the station not being in the best part of the city, homeless people and heroin users used to frequent it. Until recently it was free to use, but they had no lighting, except for neon strip lights, which I hear make it hard for people injecting, to find a vein.
Enjoyed watching this. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching 😊👍
What a fantastic trip for two pounds! I was based at RAF Staxton Wold, near Scarborough, and loved the North Yorks area. Beautiful scenery, lovely towns, and then you have Whitby to finish things off...... lucky you. Another excellent trip, thank you so much.
Cheers Keith! Yep, really enjoyed it, I’ll definitely be back one day!
I am 7 and I love your videos 💕
Thanks Kate, I’m glad you enjoy watching them 😊
Much of your trip is just as I remember mine in Sept.2018, although I detected a diversion from the route as I took it. My morning service from York called at Castle Howard and went directly from Malton to Pickering (not Thornton-le-Dale). I rode the NYM Railway from Whitby to Pickering (stopping over, of course, at Goathland for an ale at "The Aidensfield Alms" and a stroll through the village with photos at various "Heartbeat" locations), then took a return 840 service from Pickering back to York. A great day out!🙂🙂🙂
Cheers Michael. If I did it again, I’d just go from Thornton-Le-Dale up to Goathland and spend some more time looking round. Both places seemed lovely.
Lovely part of the country Mark, very interesting nice bus; very enjoyable day out if a little tiring. 👍🏻😎
Thanks Michael, definitely recommend it and great vfm atm 👍
I enjoyed that, thank you. I hope you had a good look around Whitby.
Not a long enough look around tbh Clare but I liked what I saw. Will return!
been waiting for this !!!!! york my homr city ! malton is a nice little town to and do a great food festival!!
Hope you enjoy it Sam!
Awesome! Planning this one soon. 👍✌
Thank you happy memories of my time at Leeds University 91 to 94 trip to whitby my reward and treat at least once a term
Thanks Cheryl, glad it brought back good memories 😊
I did this trip yesterday from Leeds to Whitby. Stunning!
Bet you had decent weather for it too Charlie. Hope it was worth the trip 👍
We love your bus trips...well, most (let's not talk about that megabus to Edinburgh journey). This looks terrific. Add it to the "to do" list for future trips to the UK.
Haha, thanks. The Megabus to Glasgow it was and yep, I still have nightmares about it! Plenty more to come 😊👍
I don't mind paying for toilets, I generally find that paid toilets are better kept than free ones
Yep I agree they probably are. Half the time though I don’t have any change on me these days.
What a amazing journey and for only £2bargain I used to drive for national express and do leeds sometimes, the market opposite is very good for a cheap meal, also used to drive the trans peak from Nottingham to Manchester lovely route through high peak love ur videos as they are so different in content to the travel bloggers doing 1 St class on big aircraft
Cheers Sean, appreciate the comment and yep, I certainly can’t afford to fly round the world in first (well, not very often anyway 😉) and I can guarantee my bus video’s would do way better than first class flight video’s anyway! I try to be a bit more down to earth and realistic doing stuff anyone can do 😊👍
Enjoyed that
Cheers Tony 😊👍
legend
Excellent trip report! Very nice bus and service!
Thanks mate, it was a lovely bus and the last hour - so scenic. I loved it 👍
such an immersive video, it's almost like I was there!!! 🙂
Haha, weird that. I felt your presence too! 😂
Hi Mark, that was by far the best one that you have done in my opinion.I’m biased though as I’m from Leeds and I’ve travelled on that route many times over the years aswell as the one to Scarborough too.The views sell themselves, natural unspoiled beauty everywhere you look.Look forward to you’re next one, happy travels.
Hi Graham, cheers pal and yes I do agree this was the best so far route-wise and the bus was pretty good too imho. Loved the views and the villages, beautiful 😊👍
@@LetsMakeaTrip You’re very welcome Mark👍
Done the Leeds Scarborough route several times, not had chance to do Leeds Whitby as yet. Good vid as for the Burnley Manchester don't go peak times its packed, caught me out a time or two that route has, and yes the Burnley Manchester bus is a way better bus imo. Thrown a like your way keep em coming xd. o7...
Beautiful trip! Enjoyed immensely.😉
Cheers Paul, glad you enjoyed it 😊👍
I could not believe that this route won the award, especially when compared to some of Southern Vectis's routes such as the Needles Breezer or the Island Coaster. Its not as if its the only bus service on the moors either . Enjoyable, interesting film though
Wow stunning scenery along the way even though I'm in Ireland be worth a visit just for the bus trip
Definitely Brendan and I hope you enjoy it if you do 👍
A great journey as always Mark
Thanks Leslie 😊
Throughly enjoyed this video, I've never been to Whitby, but I will get there one day.
Cheers Gerald, I hadn’t been either until this trip. I’ll go back and have a proper look around one day 👍
Well done for doing that long journey on a bus! Like others I would have been worried about the toilet😂. Never been to Whitby but have been to York and Scarborough, beautiful parts of the U.K. 😊
Thanks Sheila! I went earlier on but I think you can possibly ask the bus driver at Malton if you need to. Well worth it 😊👍
Great video. Very scenic route.
Thanks Cheryl and thanks for leaving a comment 😊
my fella comes from Skipton , I love the Yorkshire moors such beautiful scenery , that looked a lovely coach trip, I remember going to see heartbeat at goth land a few years ago and wow £2!!
Cheers Tracey, yes it was a great trip - first time I’d been to Whitby and if you go before end of June, you’ll still get to do it for £2 👍
Lovely looking route, I'll have to try that during the summer. Personally, I find the pay per use toilets are generally quite clean so worth spending a penny so to speak.
Yes if they’re kept nice and I guess if all the money goes to keeping them nice that’s the thing really. And yep, definitely worth a trip this route if you can do it before end June - even better.
I love using my free bus pass to travel the parts I've never seen - the last trip was from Manchester to Macclesfield to Buxton to Bakewell to Matlock to Leek back to Macclesfield. Through the Peak District.
I’ve got a few years to go yet, not many and I’ll hopefully still be doing this UA-cam thing then i’m going to use mine to the max!
Great video 👍
Cheers mate
Just recently discovered your channel--most entertaining. Thank you. Try Glasgow to Campbeltown, or Glasgow to Oban. Just the best scenery. Such fun negotiating the Rest and Be Thankful!
Thanks Anne.
I’ve been thinking about doing one of those long trips out of Glasgow actually. Maybe not this year now but it’s definitely on the radar 👍
Great ride. I was born in Scarborough and when based in Malton, worked in the triangle of Malton-Whitby-Scarborough in the late 70s - early 80s. I then got transferred to York and my area became the Yorkshire Dales. But that area is always special to me.
It has been many a long year since I have been up that way. I still have family and friends in the area. Time to plan a flight back home I think!
Just a small point. The village of Ruswarp is actually pronounced "ruzzup" by the locals.
Cheers Martin - I’m not from round there as you probably gathered but agree, it’s a lovely place. Ended up in a village hall in Kirkbymoorside once drinking thunderbird (but that’s another story)!!
On your topic regarding pay to use toilets, you used to see them quite a lot at train stations. Marylebone used to have them but these got removed in 2016/17 I believe just before they removed all the horrible monopoly branding (not sure if you went in them during that time) but I think to pay for a pee is just ridiculous!
I didn’t see them them but yep, still think there are too many turnstiles popping up. Also, I don’t often carry loose change these days. Probably be able to use a card at some point!
I was looking forward to this 😀
Hope it was worth the wait mate 😊👍
Great video.👍
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it 😊👍
Beautiful, nice route for the driver, cheers.
Yes I thought that. Not a bad job that one👍
Pretty challenging driving in some places though!
What a great route, the North York Moors are stunning. 3.5 hours on a bus with no facilities gives me a nervous bladder just thinking about it 😅
Smashing video as always Mark! Thanks for sharing
Cheers Myles. Yep I reckon the moors would be stunning in any weather. Takes your mind off needing the loo at any rate!
Me too! I don't think I would last that long without a loo stop. Great trip otherwise!
Great video and what away to spend £2.00 must be the best value trip anywhere in the World.
It’s pretty good isn’t it. If there’s a better value route, I’d love to know where it is!
Lovely trip. And for two quid 'n all. Not sure I could make the whole trip cos me ol' bladder wouldn't manage it these days - but it is a really handy bridge from Malton to Whitby that I may use in future. nice one Mark 👍
Cheers mate. I believe you can use the loo at Malton if necessary which is handy. Views can also take your mind of it for the last hour 😊👍
Top video Mark, really enjoyed the bus trip, I haven’t been back to Whitby since 1987 and I can remember it being a really nice place, please let us know if it’s still a nice place.
Cheers Mark. Yep, never been to Whitby before. Would have liked to have spent more time there but had to go. Will return at some point 😊👍
Thanks Mark lovely bus trip and what a bargain 👍
Cheers James, yes a total bargain. Recommended 😊👍
Great journey for a couple of quid.
Agree Kevin, do it before 30 Jun 23 I would say 👍
I live just 15 miles southeast of Leeds in Knottingley, and I've always wanted to ride this journey, however you would think that they would have a loo on board
Beautiful Journey . When we visited the UK we were aware of the toilet charges so we carry change. In a town near Loch Ness, we realised how seriously they took the toilet charges, they had a a card reader (so you scan your credit card to gain entry it was 1 pound) once you scan your card or deposit your 1 pound, then you could push the turnstile to gain access to the toilet. It had some kind of sensor alarm and if you tried to go over or go under the turnstile without paying it started beeping loudly, as some poor tourist found out and they got booted out by the cleaning person 😅😅😅
£1 Tanya!! That’s the most expensive one yet! Fancy being able to pay by card too. Shocking!
@@LetsMakeaTripthe toilets in Whitby near the bus station take cards, the only ones I’ve seen which do.
Great video, love watching your content
Thanks James and I appreciate your support mate 😊👍
Speaking about long services, I believe that Go North East will be shortly resuming their X11 service between Newcastle and Scarborough via Middlesborough and Whitby.
I am glad that you had enjoyed the 840 Coastliner service, I truly did when I travelled on it back in 2019 ans Whitby is such a lovely place. Goathland and its station are also a niche market for Harry Potter fans as the Hogsmeade part of its third movie were shot there
As for a next scenic bus ride, I would recommend the Brontëbus B1, B2, and B3, particularly the latter, as it runs between Keighley, Howarth, and Hebden Bridge. Definitely worth a try
Cheers Enrico. Yep, I’ve made a note of that Brontë bus before somewhere. My first time in Whitby, I enjoyed it and will be back but would definitely want to spend more time in Goathland 👍
The X11 won't be returning, I asked Go North East a few weeks ago and they said it wouldn't unfortunately
@@JWHammer that's sad, cause it was something I craved to try and seemed a good idea
I camped at a boozer in Hebden, it’s a beautiful place 👍
Thanks for a nice episode with a lot of wonderful scenery. I'd do this like a shot, but for the lack of toilets - though, hey, the internet works a treat - and, apparently, the longest break en route is five minutes at Malton (but what if the bus is delayed? what if there's a big queue? what if the Malton toilets are out of use? - or non-existent?). If the bus ran every half-hour, it would just about be ok to hop off, enjoy the local scenery for twenty minutes and then hop on the next bus ... but it only goes through to Whitby every two hours, and the last bus isn't exactly late. I'm sure the bus company must lose custom over this issue - but probably not enough to cover the cost of providing a coach with a toilet. Of course in a world where public transport was run by innovative, enterprising and passenger-friendly private companies, the buses and trains woould connect brilliantly at Malton (they don't, BTW) and so the coach-with-toilet might only be required for the Malton-Whitby leg.
Maybe you'd consider a mini-series of videos looking at toilet provision on longish journeys. Trains can be hit-and-miss sometimes too!
Lovely video and views
Thanks Colin, appreciate the comment 😊👍
That was a very enjoyable journey you had. Too bad the front window wasn't clean. I wish the states had a better transportation system. We still have Amtrack and Greyhound in some areas but it's not as accessible as your train and bus system.
Car is king over there still (in my recent experience anyway). I have had some epic Amtrak& Greyhound trips in the past though. Good times 👍
Excellent trip & for only two quid, plus a step back in time to Aidensfield of 'Heartbeat' fame. aka Goathland. Ending in one of my favourite places in the UK, Whitby.
Thanks mate, yep I didn’t even know about the Heartbeat connection until later on. I can see why it was filmed there too - lovely.
Great journey thanks
Cheers mate (love the name btw)!
good presentation, thank you
Cheers JP and thanks for the comment 😊
I love how mark always mentions national express in basically all of his bus and coach trips 😂
Great trip. And yes scenery route inland.
Thanks mate 😊👍
The Hole of Horcum is worth a stop and a can good walk. The 840 is a good service.
Cheers Mark. Maybe next time I’m in the area I’ll try it out 😊👍
What a great bus journey
It is - definitely recommend it.
