I got my email this morning from Rapha, these shoes are $380-$400 They have a massively serious price tag. My Bontrager XXX were super cheap & weigh 600g for the pair with cleats.
Jeez, why does the cycling community have so much hate?? Between brand snobs and brand haters!! Do we not get enough grief on the road from cars etc? I race, I commute, I ride for fun, I go on cycling holidays and for certain rides I like nice cycling kit. People on here calling them sub par shoes.... How do you know? I have a pair of rapha shoes and the soles are as good as a set of giro empires I have, the quality is excellent. It's all about opinions but I'd not knock someone for liking something I don't. I like these shoes. I will probably get a set in this colour. I will wear them, most likely, with rapha socks and jersey. I'll go out for a nice ride and I'll get called a rapha wanker, and a sucker for paying so much, but one thing is certain I'll enjoy riding my bike in these shoes.
Why is the claimed weight of any cycling related product always way off the actual tested weight? How difficult is it for manufacturers to weigh something correctly??
@@georgec2894 I bought a dedicated pair of Shimano R087's for gym/indoor stationary riding seven years ago... To this day, those cheap shoes actually are far more comfortable than the new Shimano RC9 shoes I bought last month; particularly the shallow heel cup area. Those old shoes feel like tennis shoes compared to the Sphyre's over-simplistic design. The Sphyre's are just one fabric and you feel every stitch and bump, while the R087's are just full padding throughout. The Sphyres are no doubt lighter and stiffer (definitely noticeable), but for some reason the Sphyres feel cheaper in construction/quality than those cheap shoes I bought seven years ago. I got them on deal, but I don't think they're worth three times the price. I think in many respects shoes are going backwards in comfort because the industry is trying to make shoes seem invisible.
Cup & Cone I agree with the comfort element of the entry level shoes. They seem to be running out of ideas with shoes: this knit nonsense is the height of impracticality
@@cup_and_cone Perhaps it's because you've broken the cheap shoes in? Maybe give the expensive shoes another month of regular riding and see how they feel.
From experience with basketball shoes with wovens of similar (low) quality in the Rapha shoe, I imagine we will find out in the reviews that they are extremely hot.
Please, please, please just tell us what you honestly think, we can all read the advert and dont need you to go over the same thing again, why are cycling reviews always so poor, all we ask for is the truth as you actually find it, if it weighs ten tonnes you dont need to quote their figures, the weight is the weight.
Hi Steve, as it says in the thumbnail of the video this is a first look. The shoe was released on Monday 24th Feb, so we haven't had time to test it yet. We do lots of detailed reviews on products when we've had a decent amount of time to test them and here's a few you may like. Rapha loses major points claiming a specific weight only to have a review show that it is much heavier. Rapha fan boys will buy this sub par shoe regardless.
Nice shoe. I realise that you get paid to do these videos, but if there is any money left over... Could you please do a comparison of shoes most of us might buy.
This is absolutely not a paid for video. All of our sponsored content is clearly marked as such when we upload to UA-cam, and in the first line of the video description. If you don't see it then no money has changed hands. No exceptions. Hope that helps from your friends at BikeRadar!
There we go! Another heavy overpriced and pretty ugly product from Rapha! I get a reasonable price plus better quality from Shimano or Bontrager etc..! So long Guys!
Two strikes, one it's purple, and second are the BOA dials. I like laces better. The material will most likely be disgusting looking dull and dirty after some wear and the elements work their way in. But if you're gay and you want a purple pair of cycling shoes here they are.
Claimed weight: lighter than air
Actual weight: the heaviest matter in the universe
LOL! :)
Alexandra Francis 🤣🤣🤣🤣😆😆😆🤣🤣🤣🙌🏽

Love the color since it would really suit the EF team jersey.

Does it come with Wide Fit sizes?
StiffER, strongER. Every year we add 'er' on everything.
Are these made by Giro like their older shoes?
Very cool...I'd love a pair
Pretty hideous tbh and exorbitantly priced. Cycling has to be one of the biggest rip off sports going. Riding a bike though, there is nothing better.
The truth! Still using £40 Shimano R075s after 35,000km

Snazzy, i like the strobe effect you get from the pattern.

I don't like it.
👀 forward to see someone dressed from head to toe in Rapha. Hopefully I will leave them behind but some of the buggers are super fit as well.😂
look good , I'll have a grey pair
While Rapha is certainly a bougie - if not a bit pretentious - brand, everything I own of theirs is of the highest quality and fit.
Maybe the claimed weight is of the actual shoe - so you are at fault for weighing it WITH the insole XD
I can’t wait for a gravel version of this shoe

Could be a super cool shoe, but this shiny heel cup looks so ridiculous!
why does everything in cycling have to be so fucking expensive!??
Here's an idea, stick them on so we know what to look like! Jeez.
😍
hmm, I'll spend $50 on my shoes and the remaining 305 I will rent a domestique to shield me in the draft...
I couldn’t finish this video. The cycling industry is shit these days. It’s a sport for the rich.
It's the new pricing model, Lets charge 1 pound for every 1 gram in weight 🤣
Goes for a 2 hour ride...needs 4 hours to clean those woven/knitted/whatever shoes!

fixed cleat position? thats bs. imo
adjustments are made in the cleat
Woven vs Knitted..well shit that makes a world of difference! NOTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loathe marketing!!!!!!!!!
good luck cleaning them.
They are going to get utterly destroyed in the English countryside.
As if the wanker who rides these actually rides their bike on a regular basis.
fart
Well done, the first fart on this video!

$350 USD? Go home Rapha, you're drunk
It's expensive, but well, this is a top of the line model. The S-Works 7 is even more expensive. If you got more money, there's the Sidi Shot too.

£260 isn’t bad for Rapha. I was expecting £500! But they are well heavy compared to other manufacturers! Still will never buy Rapha though.

Made in China
and? Looking at the defunct british car industry I would not buy something made in the uk ;-)
