I was planning on trading in my '18 RS3 but much panic starting sinking in when it lost $5k in value within 5 months. So, I’m going to wait a few years and trade for a newer one that’s barely broken in. Smart boy I am. @@plant-based_papi6503 The M2 is a crazy fun car, and more exhilarating than the Audi, but overall I actually like the Audi more. But I'm definitely going to miss the clutch. I really wish Audi would offer the RS3 with a manual.

This review really made me feel good about changing from a near perfect car to a more perfecter car. Scrabble word, I know but it fit. Now only have to wait until June or so to take delivery. Thanks again for the great review.
I'm taller too, I've sat in many Audi 3 models and I've always felt like I was siting too high in the car. I like to be closer to the ground and didn't feel like that when I test drove these cars
I'm 6'4 220ish with a 2016 S4 and fit great in the front but terribly in the back. If the front seat headroom and steering wheel position is similar in the 3 models, taller people should be fine. I often drive with my seat not fully back, so someone with longer legs should still fit pretty good.

Definitely.. should have more power at that price point. All depends on what VW is charging for the options and also, not sure how much it is for a tune.
I like Ferrari, but they are overpriced by about $150k. Porsches are great, but about 35% too expensive. Every vehicle is more than I want to pay, but that doesn't mean they are overpriced...just overpriced for your wallet or personal preferences.
I bought my 2018 RS3 with an MSRP of $62,400CAD, sure makes it feel worth it hearing the price of the new one (that yea, I can’t even buy here). But wow, some good improvements! The front tires are even 265 vice the last gen’s 255! Thanks for the review! Poor Canada. Thanks PM for your new noise law. Really saving lives 😑
Yeah, I think stage2 is a must - seems like best balance and reliability. Supporting mods to max out stock turbo. (fmic, downpipe, intake) and you are in 510-550hp range depending on the fuel.
Glad yall did this one- I own an 8V RS3 and although there are a lot of design things I heavily dislike about the refreshed 8y, an RS3 is an RS3, and they’re all amazing.
@Bp keep trying to create problems on the internet because you have no life lmao. I literally own a ‘17 RS3, and ‘17 and ‘18 were the most desirable model years of the previous gen. I aint say I hate the new gen, its just got a lot of stuff that i don’t care for.
@@TheEryk03 It looks more sporty, sure, but it's also reeeeeally overstyled. The front is one gaping hole of black since they don't paintmatch the grill surround on the RS3, only the S3 and A3. And nothing about the huge fake vent on the back looks aggressive or good lol. Also, from what I've heard, the handling isn't really "miles better" because of the new diff. It helps for sure though. Mechanically, it's a nice car I just can't get along with a lot of the changes they've made. I much prefer the more lowkey design of the 8v and the simplicity of the interior, as well as how analog it is.
@Bp i dont think it does that at all lol. I think its simply a matter of preference- and although I like the overall design of the new gen, I prefer my retractable knob-operated infotainment, lack of gloss black, and actual shift knob. Also my flat bottom alcantara wheel, and the beautiful lack of gloss black anywhere. Not everything newer is necessarily better. Having a preference isn’t a “cope” lmao especially when its a preference a lot of people in the community have.
@Bp right back atcha bud. I ain't got nothing to say to you other than the fact that I stated a personal preference and you somehow got hurt by that lmao. Idk what the need to be so aggressive is over a literal opinion but all good lil bro. Here's to hoping you mature into someone with common sense and social skills at some point in life.
If I can ask, is your GLI one of the new models? I'm only asking because my 2015 mk7 Golf R is getting up in its years and it's time to sell it, and as much as I do enjoy AWD, I'm in South Florida where the weather's beautiful, and the roads are smooth as silk so AWD is really not necessary. I've already had an MK6 GTi and now the mk7 golf R, and there's no way I'm spending 50k for the mk8 golf R or 40K for the Autobahn GTI. And that's where the Jetta GLI jumps in because it seems to include everything the Autobahn GTI does, in sedan form, with in my opinion a much better and more usable interior with actual buttons and knobs as opposed to the mk8 GTI, and even if it is down on HP a little from the GTI I'm sure the GLI is still plenty quick and enjoyable with the DSG. So I was just wondering if you're happy with your GLI, if you would recommend it as a daily if there's anything that you don't like about it, and if I may ask what year is it and what did you end up paying for it? I would want adaptive dampers, and I'm not sure if you got those, but for me it's pretty important as I got very used to them and spoiled with them in the golf R. Thanks in advance
@@Daveyboy_RS3 yep. I have a 2019 GLI Autobahn in pure gray. Love it. It’s tuned now to stage 2. It has its typical areas where you wonder what VW was thinking (mostly material choices on the interior),but overall it’s a bargain for the price I paid. The sticker on mine was $31k. I paid $25k. VW was giving them away at the time, but things have changed. I see people paying close to $38k for them now, but some I see are around 33k. I think that’s crazy. It’s not a $38k car. I would say that if I were to get one now, I’d probably get a 21. I don’t care for the 22 face lift and the 21 Autobahn has basically all of the features you want unlike my 19 which didn’t have DCC and a few creature comforts the 21 has. Hope this helps.
@@Daveyboy_RS3 I have a 22 GLI and absolutely love it. I have a pure gray with the black package and it’s beautiful. Plenty of power and the same tuning opportunities you’re familiar with with the r. Biggest difference is it won’t launch the same as an awd car. I spent 33k for the autobahn (only trim for 22) but unfortunately my ventilated seats were deleted due to chip shortage. I live in Houston so to compensate I did ceramic tint all around and it’s been fine. The ac blows cold af so no complaints. Like OP I too hope to move up to an rs3 one day but I’ll be happy with this car for years. Also for 22 the updated front end is less appealing than the 21 but the exhaust actually sounds good stock (unless you’re into really loud exhausts).
@@ryanblacklock3005 I'm glad to hear everything you just said because the Autobahn GTI MSRP is about 40K and at this point I would prefer a sedan. And the fact that the GLI now comes strictly as an Autobahn edition with adaptive dampers and everything else for $8,000 less than the GTI sounds fantastic. As far as power goes, back when I got my Golf R in 2015 I did the whole APR stage 2 tune and all the bolt ons and I'm hitting 60 in 3.51 seconds but I never even launch the car or for that matter never can really go more than 50% throttle with cops everywhere around here in fort Lauderdale so 228 HP with 260 lb feet of torque sounds fantastic, with then you were 7 speed DCT compared to my 6-speed DCT, as well as the big panoramic sunroof that you have and all the bells and whistles for just a little over 30 grand is sounding like it just made the top of my list. Best part is it didn't follow the GTI and Golf R in terms of removing all the knobs and buttons, which I can't stand. So I appreciate the info you gave me, and I just hope that I can find one where the dealer doesn't have any markups above MSRP. If that's the case then I'll absolutely grab myself a black one. Oh yeah and the fact that it has the ventilated seats living here in Miami. And I personally love the way it looks, so won't be spending a fortune on aftermarket aesthetic mods or tunes or any of that. Just the ceramic tint all around as you did is a must have living in such hot places. Again I really appreciate hearing firsthand from a GLI owner. Thanks again
@@ryanblacklock3005 and no I'm definitely not into really loud exhausts as I'm not trying to attract the Broward sheriff's. They love stopping people with exhausts like on the Elantra N. I actually like the fact that it pipes in a little growl into the cabin giving me the illusion of some extra aggression without grabbing too much attention. 👍
Well, actually the materials are the same on a lambo, Skoda, seat and Volkswagen. In terms of interior materials especially. The Urus has the exact same steering wheel as the audi a4.
I can say having the new 8Y verses the old model it is much more engaging. Love to see you take it for a few laps and do a comparo vs the all time list.
8V looks infinitely better... most true Audi enthusiasts will agree that every generation has been better than the last till this monstrosity. Audi lost themselves like BMW did with respect the design.
@@lsevent monstrosity? Bro try driving the new one before making stupid nonsensical comments. If you don't like the new body style that's your choice however ANYONE who's had the previous model will tell you the new one is much better.
Been loving my RS3! Yeah, there's some artificial exhaust pumped in. But for $60,000, you get amazing fit and finish, performance, and not many cars can boast +/- 3,600-lbs. Have yet to try launching and torque-split. Incredible daily!!!
@@fzr1000981 Good question - I'm not entirely sure. From the outside, it's subdued. Needs a bit more sound, but I suppose new regulations and the cats and OPF choke it out a bit. Quick mod can fix it
I agree with James: previous RS 3 was definitely the best looking RS 3~~ I still like the look of this, and I think it's the best RS 3 made so far, but the look of the previous generation was just perfect to me.
theyre unfortunately very hard to get. I went into the dealership 3 months ago and they said they werent even allowed to start ordering them yet. now you can order one and youre looking at a minimum of 6 months wait. Really, its probably more likely youre looking at 9 months. This is what I would have picked though. I was fortunate enough to at least drive one two weeks ago. Yes, it is built for a front wheel bias haldex system. yes, it is still understeery compared to any of the bimmers. Make no mistake though, its still the most fun any of the germans can offer without losing two of the doors. I had to go the bmw route. I was very lucky to have first dibs on a 340i last week, in virtually my ideal spec, and I was very disappointed even when disregarding the fact that the 340 was about $5k USD more expensive than the RS3. It was a very composed vehicle, but it was very much a GTish highway ripper. Nowhere near as fun on winding back roads. On the highway I just felt like I was going faster than I should have been, and not realizing it unless I was staring at the speedo. It just wasnt very fun for $68 grand. truly like an e90 on Zoloft. I couldnt say that about the RS3, but Ive also been dealing with the headache of trying to find a new car amongst a chip shortages and shipping woes for over a year now. I wasnt going to wait until this spring or summer to get behind the wheel of my next vehicle. I ended up getting a 330i with every option other than the 5g hotspot. it was about $57k USD so if I am sacrificing a bit of fun at least I am saving 10 grand. It will be here in about 70 days.
Oof that's still a long wait but not terrible. My Tesla lease is up in November next year and I'm terrified of the situation I'm almost certainly going to be in. I've got an old late 90's turbo 5 cylinder volvo I can fall back on if need be but I'm tossing around the idea of an RS3, S5 sportback, MK8 Golf R or a previous generation RS3 but even those are going for $60K+ right now. I just hate the idea of "Settling" for something I don't truly want but I also don't truly want anything bad enough to pay huge amounts of money over MSRP either. I could easily settle in with a MK7.5 GTI for a couple years, pay it off and just wait. I had an MK7 R years ago and it was a GREAT daily.
What I love about the 5 cylinder is when a corvette owner comes up to you in the car wash and say those engines are insane and they underestimated tuned versions.
i agree, but to be fair the segment is tiny as it's just this and the AMG CLA 45 😅 in terms of compact cars. The M2 maybe, but to me with a manual and only 2 doors, doesn't quite compete if i was cross-shopping

I was planning on trading in my '18 RS3 but much panic starting sinking in when it lost $5k in value within 5 months. So, I’m going to wait a few years and trade for a newer one that’s barely broken in. Smart boy I am.
I paid $52,500 for it in 2018 with 8k mikes. 9 months ago it was worth $55k with 25k miles and a superficial front accident.
James' theory about shifters in German cars actually made me lol. Gosh I love the humor on this channel
Gorgeous car, great scenery, wonderful production (the audio montage of that ridiculously good-sounding engine was SO COOL), and laugh out loud humor. I've been obsessed with this channel for a while, and they just keep killing it. This video singlehandedly made me consider adding an RS3 to my list of potential next cars (currently waffling between a Golf R or a GR Corolla, and unfortunately the RS3 is a bit out of my price range). Keep up the great work.
Have you seen the mark up on the Golfr or the Corolla GR? Between 20k and 30k “market adjustment” on them. That pricing puts them up to the RS3 pricing
Born and raised an Audi fanatic and these guys take the reviews to another level! Love all their content! Would love if they did the new S6 to my 4.0 S6 even though it’s tuned I could see James having the time of his life !
James does a phenomenal impersonation of Sir Attenborough. I would totally watch a whole nature documentary about the two car enthusiasts! 😂
"This makes men feel like KINGS!" ... priceless.
One of your guys best openers ever. Audi's seem like a feat of engineering that are somewhat attainable or close enough to dream about but never touch.
TH always the best in terms of intros.
Any and everything is possible good sir. Good day to you!
Although I am not really an Audi fan (design, interior,…), I have to say I enjoyed this review. It was great 👍🏼
You 2 just work together perfectly. Concerning the criticism of paying more than the sticker price - it’s such an American thing 😂🙈 no one else in their right mind would be like “the car costs 65k, but sure, I’ll pay 75k for it.” This bs has to stop.
Great videos chaps; as always. Best wishes from the UK.
I'm trading in my M2 for one of these in a couple weeks when it finally arrives. I kept waiting for the review from Throttle House though. For whatever reason I didn't connect the dots that they're in Canada and didn't really have access to it. Nice to see they give it a thumbs up. They pretty much sold me on my M2.
Countdown
How do you like your M2 bro?
@@fzr1000981 Ya I actually just got word 10 minutes ago that it arrived at the port in RI. So I should get in the next few days. Maybe a week. Pretty stoked.
@@plant-based_papi6503 The M2 is a crazy fun car, and more exhilarating than the Audi, but overall I actually like the Audi more. The interior is better in the Audi, and the stereo is infinitely better. Plus, I moved to a more northern climate, so the RWD is kind of a pain the ass now unfortunately.
But I'm definitely going to miss the clutch. I really wish Audi would offer the RS3 with a manual.
@@hlf_coder6272 word is new RS3 needs a subwoofer added, I'll be curious what you think. Was your M2 stock? What are they giving you for it?
The unitronic owner killed it with this spec!
It is beautiful but a touch of chrome here or there should really pop with all the black and grey.
Hate the blacked out look. It’s just creates a big void, no character or style.
i fee like the grill is too much with black optics package i want some definition in the front i agree with james that the previous gen with that quattro signage on the front splitter was rs3 perfection in terms of design
Amazing colour.
We support this statement! ;)
Good to see the Unitronic name on the channel. They have the most reliable tunes for VAG.
these intros are brilliant, love it
This is by far the greatest intro I've ever watched when reviewing any car. Thanks for the laughs. And the commentating is second to none, beating only by the legend himself, Sir David Attenborough.
THIS is the reason I love you guys 1000x better than The Straight Pipes. They don't even compare to this quality, and comical finesse. Keep it up!
Exactly. I feel the same way 100% that guy with the glasses from straight pipes always making corny jokes and sounds like he knows what he’s talking about it’s super annoying
Excellent video review! Great job. Chemistry of the team is excellent. I'm the owner of a 2018 RS3 and love it. However, just placed an order for a 2024 model. Kemora Grey actually. This review really made me feel good about changing from a near perfect car to a more perfecter car. Scrabble word, I know but it fit. Now only have to wait until June or so to take delivery. Thanks again for the great review.
This magnificent example of a car makes me proud to own a 5 cylinder. Thanks for another great video guys!
What a breathtaking autumn scenario 🥰🥰🥰 it just couldn’t be better for a car review. And the shifter size theory made me burst out my tea 😂😂😂 thanks
As a classical music, I truly appreciate how James accurately and descriptively spoke of the engine sound.
As a tall viewer of your channel I would appreciate a "Does Harrison fit?" segment on each car you review. Hint: see if he fits in the front too.
Same here!
I'm taller too, I've sat in many Audi 3 models and I've always felt like I was siting too high in the car. I like to be closer to the ground and didn't feel like that when I test drove these cars
Absolutely agree. It really ensures I don't (or, sometimes, do) daydream about the car in the video.
I'm 6'4 220ish with a 2016 S4 and fit great in the front but terribly in the back. If the front seat headroom and steering wheel position is similar in the 3 models, taller people should be fine. I often drive with my seat not fully back, so someone with longer legs should still fit pretty good.
im always like, they can't top their previous video production level. and then they go an bring this joy of entertainment. well done.
Best compact sleeper ever, and halfway to v10, which can't be overestimated.
I am just glad Unitronic has one for testing. I am waiting to see what they come up with for ECU and TCU tunes!
This is the perfect car for me in the current car market. It's flawless...... If one day it comes to Canada I am buying it.
**sad Canadian noises**
Me too, man. Me too. :(
Just go to Michigan? Its like around the corner of Toronto. But I assume you guys are from Vancouver.
@@DubioserAltschauerberger1510you can’t get it licensed in Canada even if you buy it in the US
The David Attenborough knockoff intros slay me every damn time. Well done.
Pretty sure the 5 cylinder is half of the V10 found in the R8/Hurancan, so its no surprise is sounds so good.
It literally is that. Just split the V10 in half and throw a turbo on it and boom you have the DAZA
I would prefer a solid 6 cylinder over any 4 and 5 cylinder engine here.
James "if the Honda civic wants to grow up a little bit" ahhahah you guys make my day. Great video as always.
Just picked up the RS3 couple days ago and it is just wow. Leave me wanting to drive more and more even if I'm going no where. I've driven the 2022 rs5 as well and it's no where as fun as the new rs3. Nice vid! Just picked up the RS3 couple days ago and it is just wow. Leave me wanting to drive more and more even if I'm going no where. I've driven the 2022 rs5 as well and it's no where as fun as the new rs3. The sound of the five cylinder just isn't loud enough though...
Congratulations
wow glad saw your comment! I was tossing up between rs5 s6 rs3 or Genesis g70 etc but im not sure! How you finding that new shifter? its so annnoooying they removed normal tiptronic, it looks girly and tacky its so small wtf lol hows the car tho over all? i like that exhaust is not too loud. it matches the more lux look the car has now
That was the best baby steps walk and talk I've ever seen. Nice modulation James!
Owned a 2017 S3 and loved it, then Audi forgot the RS3 and instead I bought a 2020 BMW M340 xdrive. Now they finally brought back the RS3 and I’d get one in a heartbeat. But…I love the M340 and with prices the way they are, I’m holding onto the Beemer as long as possible. Love the new RS3!
Dude, throw your bmw away. The new Rs3 is 10 times better. I'm from Germany and drove it. Quattro power over m bmw all the time
AND I'M JAMES is the best part of every episode for me
Beautiful car. Some would say it's ideal as a daily and track driver, but I still think it's overpriced by about $10k.
Definitely.. should have more power at that price point. All depends on what VW is charging for the options and also, not sure how much it is for a tune.
@@ilovesundays10 S3 is 10k less and properly quick too.
Enter, the S3
quick tune can change that but then you gotta void warranty
I like Ferrari, but they are overpriced by about $150k. Porsches are great, but about 35% too expensive. Every vehicle is more than I want to pay, but that doesn't mean they are overpriced...just overpriced for your wallet or personal preferences.
I’ve loved the sound of the straight 5 since the days of Stig Blomqvist and his “Ur Quattro” Rally days.
I am becoming a huge fan of Audi.
The production of this channel has gotten so great , love all the reviews
Seen 3.3seconds to 100km/h by The Topher. Just madness
Really saving lives 😑
the one thing i love about the rs3 is the option/ destiny you choose for the car. Many choose it stock but a certain group take this to 700+whp
Same with most performance cars though. Many can reach 700+whp.
Yeah, I think stage2 is a must - seems like best balance and reliability. Supporting mods to max out stock turbo. (fmic, downpipe, intake) and you are in 510-550hp range depending on the fuel.
I have a tuned and straight piped Golf with the 2.5l 5 cylinder. It sounds amazing!
New one looks much more sporty and special and handle miles better thanks to the New diff.
Still 8V is amazing car.
Good to see James Attenborough back to do another episode of Planet VW.
The shifter conversation was EPIC!🤣
I will now call that shifter a limp biscuit.
I wanna go from an Elantra N to an RS3 so your civic type R comment was spot on
Great stuff, gents! Love the RS3. Good chance that when I graduate from my GLI that an RS3 will be high on the list. Love that 5 cylinder.

Same design by same builders. Just half the size.
Well, actually the materials are the same on a lambo, Skoda, seat and Volkswagen. In terms of interior materials especially. The Urus has the exact same steering wheel as the audi a4.

One of your best intros to date! Hilarious and well done!
Omg the intro 😂😂😂
You guys never disappoint
David Attenborough would be proud of that intro!
Yeah as someone who had an 8V now an 8Y, the 8V isnt even in the same league as the 8Y. 8Y is better in every single way.

But yeah, the 8Y is better than the 8V across the whole range in every way IMO.
Unitronic is the best tuning and hardware company and could always rely on them!! Best from Montreal 🔥🔥
Been loving my RS3! Yeah, there's some artificial exhaust pumped in. But for $60,000, you get amazing fit and finish, performance, and not many cars can boast +/- 3,600-lbs. Have yet to try launching and torque-split. Incredible daily!!!
Can you turn off the artificial noise?
@@fzr1000981 Good question - I'm not entirely sure. From the outside, it's subdued. Needs a bit more sound, but I suppose new regulations and the cats and OPF choke it out a bit. Quick mod can fix it
I think downpipe and flash gets close to 470 hp, and more if you have E85
There’s no artificial sound pumped in. None.
I liked the vid just after the intro. Everything else was like the cherry on top.
Very good looking car inside out..
Looks way better than the m2
You guys do an amazing job with your videos! Keep up the good work! My favorite car review channel.
I agree with James: previous RS 3 was definitely the best looking RS 3~~ I still like the look of this, and I think it's the best RS 3 made so far, but the look of the previous generation was just perfect to me.
front end looks horrible compared to the previous models. Its literally a gaping hole of plastic from top to bottom lol
I really like this car and I also like the "missing bumper"
Amazing as always! I’d love to see a comparison video between the R and RS3 on the road and track!
Golf R is more in line with the S3 though.
Definitely. The R has much less power
This show is peak automotive content!
theyre unfortunately very hard to get.
It looks fucking sick inside and out, by far the best one ever made and it’s not even relatively close. They dominate this segment.
i agree, but to be fair the segment is tiny as it's just this and the AMG CLA 45 😅 in terms of compact cars. The M2 maybe, but to me with a manual and only 2 doors, doesn't quite compete if i was cross-shopping
