Ultra runners are a different breed aren’t they? None of the prestige or crowds - just 3 or 4 times the pain ;) nice effort getting through it!!
Thanks for watching Kevin. It was certainly tough out there but a beautiful place to run. Very different event from the Brighton Marathon I did last month but I think more my kind of thing overall as brutal as the distance is!
Would love to do an ultra but need to build up yo it slowly. Videos like this add to my enthusiasm to try one. Perhaps in 2 years to celebrate my 70tb birthday. Keep up the great content.
Thanks David, much appreciated. They're a great thing to do and ones like this would be good as a first ultra as the terrain isn't too tricky overall and it's relatively flat and well supported at the aid stations. Thanks for watching.
Great Videos! Not only does the filming help get your mind off the negatives of running long distance but it is also good training to play it back and see what going on especially when your brain starts shutting down late on in a race. I have learned so much by filming myself in the last 3 miles of a half marathon than any other part of the race. Keep it up as you probably help more people than your comments section suggests
Thanks Paul, really appreciate that! Definitely, I've found that in longer races having the camera there can be a bit of a psychological advantage sometimes as you chat to camera, get difficulties off your chest and by the time you've turned the camera on and filmed something another mile has gone by! Thanks for watching
Well done Ben. You made that look enjoyable (almost). Makes me wish there were ultas around when I was younger. Looking forward to your next run. All the best.
Thanks Peter. I definitely enjoyed a lot of it!... But there were also some pretty non enjoyable parts. A great event overall though. Cheers for watching
Beautiful race footage, dear friend! Congrats for the 60k!👏 Fully watched with great respect for your achievement! 👍
Thanks so much Mihai. Really pleased with how it turned out. Hope you're keeping well
Just got this on my suggestions from UA-cam. Great running. I'm a long way off running an ultra at the moment but I hope to get there one day. Keep up the good work! 👍🏻🏃♂️
Cheers Mark and thanks for taking the time to comment, greatly appreciated. I'm new to this ultra business this year but have really enjoyed a lot of it (not all of it!) so far. Slowly upping the miles bit by bit has worked for me and just listening to your body. Thanks for watching!
this is awesome man, watching this brought back all those memories from when I did it, absolutely brilliant video Ben !
Thanks Jay, much appreciated. And cheers for the footage too, nice to have some clips in there from a different angle!
Congratulations!! Great race, and great video! Looking forward to seeing what you tackle next!
Thanks Kelly! It was a super event. I'm coming to the end of a couple of weeks off from after the ultra but looking forward to getting back to it soon 😀
Well done Ben! You really showed how its done mate! Amazing effort! What's next on the horizon for you? Keep on pushing forwards mate! 😎🤘🏻
Cheers Ben. A couple of weeks of no running for me now I think 😀Going to get back to doing the local parkruns after that, some nice trail routes around Sussex and then start to up the mileage towards the end of the year for marathons and ultras booked in for next year!
Wow, well done 👏
Thanks Caz, much appreciated!
Great video of the event and fantastic time….well done Ben 👏👍. I shuffled in about an hour later after you…
Thanks for watching Ben and congrats to you too. Was there a certain part of it you found the toughest? For some reason for me it was the middle of the race which I wasn't expecting!
Yeah the middle was tough for me also. My hips got sore with a long way to go still.
@@bensmith6633 Where it was so flat for a long time in the middle I think it was just pounding the same muscles over and over. Really liked the path though overall so hoping to go back there for more runs - after some rest 😀 Hope you're recovering well.
@@timeonfeet Yeah the downs link offers some shelter and relief from the hills when you come off SDW and is cool with the old stations etc. I did their darkstar river marathon (virtually) in January. That follows the river path (its like a bog in January) from Shoreham, then picks up the downslink, goes past the brewery and upto west grinsted before heading back to shoreham. That’s a great route if you don’t mind getting covered in mud. 😃👍
@@bensmith6633 I saw that event on their website and noticed the disclaimer about the mud! Someone I know who did it described it as like swimming through a muddy river 😀 Can't say I've done too much extreme mud yet in my running!
