This content is unbeatable. As a photographer, it made me drop a tear when my realization of a straw reflecting a column at the background was mentioned by you and outlined as intentional detail. Also there is a glitch in the video at 10:10 which I do like, because it is changing the photograph in the way that is seems beautiful for .me. This makes me feel that photography is beyond content or context .Love.

As a great fan, it is amazing, especially the lady on the bench. Great leading lines, and the angle of that straw, I didn’t see that until you mentioned it 😉.
    Regards from The Netherlands.

Thanks especially for one thing here: For pointing out that you sometimes have to WAIT for a picture to HAPPEN!! There are some street photography nerds on YT who run around (being followed by a video cameraman, being VERY visible this way!) and clicking away on the run. Showing very mediocre pics as results. Because in this moment, a pictu re did NOT happen. Your stories are full of photo opportunities - plus time! Good lesson for many.

Hey Alan, great to see you have your own UA-cam channel. I did meet you once a few months back in early June of this year, it was only fleetingly. Me and my partner were walking from South Bank all the way to Tower Bridge and there you were with I think a student. You were explaining how to frame a shot from under a bridge. A quick "Hi Alan I've seen you on UA-cam" from me, a handshake and a thank you from you and that was it. Hoping to continue learning from you.

It rained a lot before you took the picture in Colombia and the most appealing thing is that you can smell the after effect of the atmosphere from the picture barring the frozen moment the picture has a vibrant dynamics of life added hitherto with the still portrait reverting the augment of moving out after a quick shelter in the pouring rain! Wonderful images all. Not only because of the composition, which is always fantastic, but also because each image is perfectly exposed. I'm guessing that you have likely already created a video covering how to meter for such high contrast situations so as to properly expose the subjects. I'll go searching for this now, but if you should see this comment you might reply with a link or with the title of the appropriate video so that others can refer to it. With much gratitude, a very happy subscriber

@@alan_schaller Is there a rule in their rule book against sitting on the floor? I was asked to leave a shopping center for taking pictures and security came out. Taking pictures isn't against the rules, but taking pictures with a professional camera is, and their definition of a professional camera is any SLR. Cell phone pics are fine as are pics with a pocket camera, but not an SLR. Ridiculous, but since it was private property I didn't want to risk them calling the police on me.

What a pity losing some seconds of Alan's interesting thoughts 😟 This is so good... and funny 😂 The feud with the British Museum staff 1:01 was hilarious! 😂 "I should be allowed... to warm my bottom because I have a condition!" (That would have been me. It will/might be funny 😁)
The disabled cat's portrait 5:23 with the brick pattern surrounding him, following with Alan's distorted portrait 6:24 with yet another brick pattern around him... leads me to truly believe that we might have an hidden message here, guys! (😁)
So interesting to see through his mind when he gave us the hint about his favorite bit about this one here 7:55. I was immediately inside a guessing-game like "Oh, of course it will be the white (or brightest) panel perfectly placed right behind her to give that perfect contrast..." 🚨WRONG! 😂🤣😂 The angle...🥤! WOW! Soooo good!
I'd also love to know what Alan had to say about other extra detail from the right-element in this one 9:25... but well... we can't have it all 😊
Cartagena photo was absolutely incredible! Pity about the cut 🔇 (or another sexual innuendo lol)... but well... Very... pleased (😂) with what I got 😊
And again, thank you for this. I'm already waiting for the next one... and sharing 😊

Thank you so much for sharing these behind the scene stories. The last shot is really dazzling but I must say I’m a bit frustrated because of the many unanswered questions I still have in mind ! (How much time and how many pictures did you take before you managed to shoot this one? Do you use burst mode to get these wonderful pigeon pictures of yours? I can’t believe it’s only by chance you succeed in capturing the perfect moment ! Pigeons are particularly challenging. I almost never succeed in capturing one with its wings wide open !!)
Oh, last question (although I don’t expect you’ll find the time to answer me): how do you frame with the 24mm? Do you use an external OVF, or live view, or do you just guess the frame by experience ?
    Anyway, I can’t wait until the next 10-4-10 !!

How often do you get surprised when you think you have taken an average shot, only to see you have taken a great shot when you get home?
